Silk Screen Stenciling on a cookie - 3 part stencil set up

This is how I do all my silk screening on my cookies. I have found this method to be the best way to get my design consistently lined up on a complete set of cookies. The nature of my recipe causes some spread when baking, so this technique works great to get a consistent result from cookie to cookie.

I think a tip that might help to get things lined up quicker would be to make sure your red rubber mat was stuck to your clipboard with some double stick tape. Then you could trace the cookie outline onto the rubber mat with a food safe marker. That should help make sure the cookie can quickly be placed in the right spot every time. I haven't tested this theory, but it might work.

That's the same idea as the $50 gadget I bought....tracing the the cookie cutter, then lining up the cookie. The problem is that with recipes that have any spread to them you don't always have an exact shape, so lining up doesn't always work. Plus when you are doing a 2 or 3 part stencil it needs to be quite accurate for placement. Which is why I have found this method to work the best for me😉

I am back again... This is so interesting to me for my business. I am in the process of moving back to Albuquerque, New Mexico (US) to RE-Open my Acting Academy and I want to give out "Thank You" cookies to EACH person, but I want my name of my Acting Academy on the cookie too. I will be in touch with you for more information. Thank YOU so much for sharing this great video.

Brilliant! I didn't watch the whole thing through yet but dang, this method looks like it would work a lot better than a certain expensive one I bought where you put the cookie template under it to line it up...somehow mine are never in the same spot! Better to eyeball, lol. So this is genius! I do have a question...I've never used silkscreen stencils before...do they ever get messy underneath the way the plastic ones do? I usually have to wash off stencils after doing 4 or so cookies. Thanks for this video!
@SweetSugarLaine
@SweetSugarLaine 2 года назад
Yep! I own said expensive stencil gadget that was used once because it didn't work for me either! They are different than the mylar stencils...you should be able to stencil quite a few with icing before you have to wash. I've done up to at least 20+ . You will start to know it's time to wash because your stenciled edges will start to look less crisp.

Thank you so much! Excellent tutorial! Your voice is so calming. I do a lot of silkscreen stenciling but never had the courage to try multiple colors. Do you have a color maximum recommendation? Also, how do you keep the stencil from drying out? I only get about 4 times and it’s dry.
@SweetSugarLaine
@SweetSugarLaine 2 года назад
I've only done 3 colors....I probably wouldn't go more than 4 but really I think you could do more. As far as drying out....you do need to work fairly quick. You can put a slightly damp clean sponge up at the top of the clipboard. So when you flip the stencil up it lays on the damp sponge and helps keep it from drying out. I do usually get at least 12-24 cookies done before I have to wash.
