When I was 13 years old, 53 years ago, I played this song in an electric guitar competition and won first play. I wish I could have been able to listen to Silvana Mangano perform this song back then!

My dad had a 78RPM record of this song on one side and the song 'NON DIMENTICAR' on the other side. It was one of my favorite record and I would have listened to many times when I was growing up now as an old man I have tears in my eyes when I hear this song. I don't understand a word of the song, but I feel the song talking directly to my heart.

Saw this movie in Cyprus in the 50s when I was a kid, and up to this day I've never forgotten this song, though can't remember the movie itself. Only today I was speaking to my sister who's in London, and she reminded me of this song, so I just had to look it up. Wish I could see the whole movie.

I don't know the meaning of the song but loved the way her moves and expression. Especially I like the music. Cinema Paradiso bought me here.

Oh my gosh, what a magnificent voice and song.

I heard this as a 13 year old in 1951 on the kitchen radio and loved it . Made up my own rote lyrics which I still sing to this day , not knowing which language she is singing. I thought it was Italian. Interesting she is grandmother to Gia the chef as someone mentioned here. This song became a talisman for me. I was bullied by an older girl in my neighbourhood. Went to a collegiate and was intimidating. Walking. Home one day I was singing this song . Turns out she loved it and was so Impressed I “knew” the lyrics ..I taught her my rote sounds and we did become soul mates of a kind..over music.

In Quebec where I was born, I was maybe more or less 2 years old (1951--52--53) when that song was playing on the radio and heard it after that occasionally in the 50's and rarely after that...I never forget how I love to hear the music and what sounds even today a playful lyrics although I still do not know the meanings of the words. I love it!

Written by movie composer Armando TROVAJOLI widower of Actress Pier Angeli. Silvana Mangano is the Grand Mother of Chef Giada De Laurentiis. Trovajoli lived into his 90's ?

All of Silvana Mangano's movies use to place on local TV stations (English dubbed) in the greater Detroit area. I miss see them. I wish someone on youtube would post her movies (English dubbed please)for new generations to view. What a shame to keep locked-up in some vault! Thank you very much for this post.

I saw the film, Anna in French Morocco in 1952, and fell in love with Silvana Mangano. I tried to get it on Netflix but apparently it's not on DVD.

Thrilled to discover this song with the video. Used to hear it as a child from dad's 78RPM collection. Did not know that it was this hot. To learn that the band Pink Martini performs this number makes me want to go their concert.

After frantically trying to work out what this song wes by watching cinema Paradisio, I heard the Pink Martini cover and got the original. But the images are beyond words.
