Structure to your stack is important! Being organized as a silver stacker is half of the fun for me personally so today I wanted to talk about the pieces that dont really have a home in my stack.

I made a whole bunch of money buying Silver Shield coins, holding them for 3 years and then reselling them. I sold one type for up to $220 each on ebay. I had 16 of them, so it wasn't a nothing burger. There are people who make a ton of money on collectible resale. Can't ignore that.

There are markets within this market. The vintage bar market is a great example. There is a Rare Engelhard 5oz Extruded bar right now up for auction. Bidding is up to $1,400 for a 5 oz bar with days to go in bidding. You can sell collectible pieces and using the profits to buy Bullion. I've bought collectible pieces and sold them 4 to 6 years later to get a 70% + return. I then use those profits to obtain free bullion. That's absolutely Silver investing.

I'm from Australia. I've only got three or four rounds, the rest are coins from sovereign mints; mostly Perth Mint, Royal Australian Mint and the Royal Mint. My favourite round, though, is a 1 oz 999 silver $25 gaming token from the Mirage in Las Vegas, from about 1989. I picked it up at an antique store (wish I'd grabbed all four they had instead of just the one) and got it just under spot price, which was a bonus. I think it'll be increase with the collectability aspect in the future as I recently saw the Mirage is closing down soon, so I'll see what happens there.

I have mostly government rounds. But I have a lot of rounds that are lovely looking or collectable. The good thing about those rounds you hold, is at least it will be easy to part with if you needed to sell. The issue most of us have is we don't want to part with a lot of what we have. So, we've these types of rounds it's easy.
@nathieboy1987

@@Yourtimeisnow-GG in my opinion there’s no problem owning different rounds. Chances are if you do need to offload some of the stack, it would be to a coin or bullion dealer, who would have several ways to verify the rounds; whether ping test, or with an XRF machine, etc. best advice I could give is to stack what brings you joy 😊 There’s no use stacking the same designs if they don’t bring satisfaction because that will likely lead to the loss of enthusiasm to continue stacking long-term. Human nature can be funny that way.

When it comes down to intrinsic value silver is silver. Collect what you like, but relying on trying to get some premium because of collector value, in a bad situation collector value will not be recognized as anything worth paying for.

I'm with you. I prefer highly recognizable stuff now where before, I bought random items. There is nothing wrong, however, with putting tubes of twenty random rounds together. Still a tube, still sellable back to an LCS, no issues there. But, other than two series that I like to collect, I want to stick with the big five: ASE's, Maples, Krugs, Britts, and Phils. Same when it comes to gold. I've been a bit "all over the map" and regret it but I do have a large stack now and it's hard to curse it just because there's a fair amount of variety.

Welcome back Jaybarr! I have learned that a lot of the satisfaction I get from stacking is being organized. I like everything to have it's place. Sovereign coins, rounds, and bars. It's all still silver but at the end of the day I want each piece to have it's own place it can call home in my stack. Thanks for stopping by!

I'm one of the rarer stackers. In that Im a stacker through and through. I stack all types of silver. Silver generics, silver coins, silver jewelry (not the main market. I buy it off from people for cheap. Like how someone would at garage sales.) it allows me to jump ounces faster and buy silver under spot when I'm extremely broke. Because people just wanna get rid of stuff. I got vintage silver, a few spoons, chalice, fractionals. I found out as a American, i stack more like a foreigner. In other countries it seems. Silver is silver. Same with gold. They stack bullion, and buy jewelry and it's all treated the same. Its money. In america it seems we are more picky and finicky. Technology has way over compensated. So checking whether it's real or not is not a problem. Whether you have a cheap acid test at home, or xray gun, combined with knowledge on what to look for. It's too easy to verify. And being that these medals have been traded for thousands of years, before xray machines. I have far more generics then coins tho. And would like to afford more coins😊 but the premiums always slow me down.

Ive gotten a few rounds im not really thrilled with but spot deals win imo. When i fet rounds they are usually sunshine mint, silver town, or scottsdale. I have bars but bars are bars minus my 10oz year of the tiger which is just a cool one to have. I have a ew vintage but my buys i really enjoy are perth mint lunars, queens beast and canadian 2 oz coins. All those usually i get my value and if not resell. Like my tudor beast lion i have an extra of im gonna use at the next coin show as a trade up to a gold goal. I def have a few pieces i do regret getting but with spot up im gonna get my money back on them and use em also in a trade for gold.

IIf the world fall apart and the financial system get wiped out, then I dont think a farmer or a shop or who ever cares about if the silver coin you can pay them with are a goverment backed coin or a random bullion. in that moment 1 Oz silver will be 1Oz silver value for them.
