Sometimes, I feel like a simpleton, sitting here for 10 minutes watching this video. But I find these enormous machines endlessly fascinating. I also like videos that feature heavy lifting cranes, lifting in some cases thousands of tons! I recently read that there is a company developing a ring crane that can lift 11,000 short tons. That's something like a mile-and-a-half fully loaded freight train, locomotives and all, in a single lift!
We can't build mega machines like the Silver Spade or Big Muskie, even if our lives depended on it. All of the heavy industry, infrastructure, and skilled labor it takes to build them is gone. We can't even make an AM-FM radio in the U.S. entirely of domestic parts and materials. All gone.
The machine is sitting on it, it will strip the overburden off and dump it in where the coal has been mined out. They call it strip mining, so it works in long strips moving overburden 90deg to expose the coal. The machines below it are cutting down to the seam as the big gear just cuts near to the seam
Scrapped by Obama! A true shame. All in the name of politics. Yet...china still burns coal with no scrubbers. And supposedly has built great machines like this. But that's hush hush.
@@chrismaclean3108 wow, blaming the best president before the fuckface who initiated a riot and illegal trespassing on the capitol. You must have a small brain, like the size of a cockroach brain.
