Here's an update sorry I been away for awhile. Got a Chevy Silverado 1500 Coolant gauge stopped working showed 160 and odometer said engine hot AC off. Replaced Thermostat and disconnected battery. Issue solved. Used a Failsafe thermostat with the gasket. 18 bucks at autozone.

After replacing the thermostat and the temperature sensor with generic auto parts, I used an AC Delco thermostat and that did the trick. Mine is a 2011 Chevy Silverado with the 4.3 V-6.

Yeah sometimes manufacturers parts are the way togo. Thermostats always go for manufacturers part ive learned that if you don't want to change it every year or two lol

I went to the ac delco site to go ahead and order a thermostat and it’s saying it’s not compatible with my v6 4.3 Silverado. I’m confused on why’d it’d be saying this

So you have a different problem that sucks. Mine was easy just replaced thermostat it was stuck shut. Still no issues since. Many different parts can cause this issue. Mine was the thermostat. With it stuck shut coolant can't pass the coolant sensor. If these vehicles cannot detect its engine temp it will throw engine hot a/c off message, even if its not actually overheating.
@cammdolla5922
@cammdolla5922 4 месяца назад
Thought the temp sensor was located on the driver side near plug wires not where you pointed. And a bad temp sensor won’t always show overheating.
@ShadyTreeRepair
@ShadyTreeRepair 4 месяца назад
Wasn't a bad temp sensor, was a stuck thermostat which will cause overheating. By not opening and allowing the coolant to flow. Truck has no temp since coolant isn't flowing past the sensor. Its better to proper diagnosis then assume and throw parts at a problem. Yes seeing no temp would lead one to believe its the sensor. But if you touch a rad hose and ones hot but ones cold and feels empty then its a coolant/flow issue.

Exact same issue with my 3.4 liter 2010 GMC work truck 2 or 3 years ago. My temp gauge never moved off the peg. Defective temp sensor was the culprit. If the temp gauge moves off the gauge to a low temp. The thermostat is not closing. Aka defective thermostat. Apparently u didn’t run your truck enough to get the temp gauge off the peg. ?
@ShadyTreeRepair
@ShadyTreeRepair Год назад
No stuck thermostat, drove it for an hour temp skyrocketed. Easy to figure out a stuck thermostat hot hose coming from rad to engine, cold hose going from engine to rad means coolant isn't flowing. The only thing that prevents coolant flow is the thermostat on this truck. And you can drive it for awhile to clear the code or just disconnect battery for instant code removal. Temp sensor functioned to spec, they truck was actually overheating from a defective thermostat.

My suburban runs about 240degrees it’s used to be about 210. I notice the over flow tank for the radiator fluid is empty and I open the cap and fluid fills into it. Is this supposed to be like this? What is the problem? Tku
@ShadyTreeRepair

Cheapest thing to try is replace radiator cap my 95 dodge had same issue, for me replacing the cap solved my problem.

Had this happen to my 2007 4.8 Silverado. Replaced the thermostat and coolant sensor. About 2 months later same thing happened again. Any suggestions

Check sensor wire harness make sure its not shorting out somewhere, as for thermostats be sure to clean and flush cooling system as debri can cause premature failure. Also they just don't make them as reliable anymore lol.

Were you able to fix your issue? I just replaced my temp sensor and thermostat, and the problem returned a few miles down the road. Any suggestions?

You replaced Temp sensor?
@twinkles1565
@twinkles1565 8 месяцев назад
Wrong, it will do it again. It's not the thermostat
@ShadyTreeRepair
@ShadyTreeRepair 8 месяцев назад
Wrong It never happened again cause it was the thermostat that was stuck shut. Not hard to figure out if one rad hose is burning hot and ones cold to the touch and your engine is overheating its a stuck thermostat or water pump failure. A bad temp sensor would show overheating but coolant would still flow both hoses would be hot and engine wouldn't actually be overheating. After either repair you'll need to disconnect battery on these models to clear the code.
@zmack8250

Do you know what could be the problem if both my hoses are warm to touch
@ShadyTreeRepair
@ShadyTreeRepair Год назад
Could be a few things to check, are the fans kicking on and off (fan motor/relay), water pump should have a weep hole if thats leaking then pump is shot. I'd check those first. There's also a chance the thermostat is stuck partially open allowing some flow but not enough to keep engine cool. Older thermostats had a bypass hole so if they ever get stuck shut some coolant could flow but im pretty sure these newer vehicles don't have them.

For me it wasn't a sensor but thermostat got stuck shut. Replaced that disconnect batter for a minute then it fired up with no more codes
