Hopefully this will help some people that may experience this sudden loss of drive in their GM pickemup.
I understand that this is not always the case but it sure is a good starting point! Especially if you know you haven't beat yer trans into a no forward movement situation.
Simple fix that can potentially save you thousands of monies and get you back on the road in no time!

This is %100 Legit. I have a 2017 GMC Yukon with 88K. These exact symptoms, strong reverse, no forward gears. No code, not burned, not slipping. I bought the service kit at the dealer, $28, easy. Dropped the pan and valve body, had to loosen the right exhaust at the manifold. My ball valve was clearly half size, clearly stuck. New fluid and filter. Carefully aligned the electrical plug and the shifter plunger. Works like a dream. No doubt this person saved me 4-5 thousand dollars. My clutches were not worn, barely anything in the pan. Wife stunned. Can't thank this person enough.

Thank you for the video! This just happened to my 2017 Silverado 1500 crew cab 90k miles. Called three mechanics all said it was the transmission. $2500, $3000, $4500 quotes!…. Found your video, decided to give it a shot since truck showed no prior symptoms before not going forward at a red light, reverse worked perfectly. $180 later, 5hrs of time… and she’s running as smooth as before!… once again, Thank you!

Thank you so much for this video, 2017 chevy silverado 2500 6.0 had no trouble codes stored, randomly i would not move forward, only reverse, did as you specified on video, issue was fixed, one of the plastic balls had decreased significantly in size to the point it got stuck, poor design that is making GM lots of money, PEOPLE LIKE YOU SHOULD BE GETTING SOME MONEY FROM GM. I just had this happen on my 2011 Suburban. Freshly rebuilt 40k miles ago. Fluid not burnt at all, no codes, no fwd gears but reverse is fine. Pulled the valve body and everything still looks new and undamaged. Turns out the 1-2-3-4 piston cracked and presents the same symptoms. You can check this when you drop the valvebody to see if the check balls are the issue. 1-2-3-4 feed is the forward most hole next to the filter hole on the trans where you just removed the valvebody from. It should be super tight and hold air with very minimal leakage. If you hear it dump air you have a cracked piston. Gm has 4 different revisions of it since it is such a problem and sonnex makes a nice billet upgrade for less than $100.

Got a 1999 gmc suburban & worked perfect, just changed filter & everything was running real good, no hard shifting gears, smooth gear change & came down a hill & turned & accelerated & NOTHING, would not go forward at all but has reverse. No whining noise, no rough gear change, just no longer have forward gears. Reverse works perfect. It's the 4L60E I think

Could be stuck valve in the valve body, could be a stuck check ball, or could have mechanical failure. Start with dropping the pan and go from there.

Common causes of this condition-broken sprag in the low reverse clutch stack in the BOTTOM of the center support, cracked 1-2-3-4 piston, stuck check ball in separator plate, bad TEHCM, and the number one cause of loss of ALL movement-both forward and reverse (usually when fluid/trans is hot) is the torque converter coming apart. I build these units every single day and I LOVE them! They are great units, they just have a few quirks. For those of you going in to replace the white plastic check balls-buy .250" TORLON check balls from your local trans supplier.. They will last significantly longer than the white plastic check balls GM utilizes. They are a caramel or brown color. That's what we use at my shop.

I have a 6L90 that torque converter went bad and I replaced that and the filter. I still have no movement with It forward or reverse however if I put It in manual select It won’t move until I tell It to shift to a higher gear then It moves for 20 seconds then nothing again until I change gears again. Think this could be the problem?

@@ryanbrady5552 When the converter goes bad you need to do a full rebuild to include a new pump, or machine the original pump, install BOTH shift kits-to account for wear of the pump pressure regulator valve, and at minimum replace the pressure blisters on the TEHCM... replace the filter/screen plate on the TEHCM, replace the bonded pistons, replace all bushings... Once the converter goes bad-you have metal throughout the entire unit... Replacing JUST the converter is not just gambling... it's throwing away your money. You tried a short cut and unfortunately, it's just not going to work out for you... Most likely you have valves stuck/sticking in the valve body from the metal coming out of the converter... That's just a GUESS.. I would never, and have never, just attempted to replace just the converter when one has failed... Too much collateral damage inside the unit to get away with doing just that. Best of luck with your project.

I have a goes into reverse no drive situation not sure if 1, 2, 3 work but the D don't work, as I'm just starting working on a 94 Explorer and tomorrow I'll be pulling tire off to get it jacked up to get rid of a pancaked tire with dry rot sidewalls

I did my 17 express van in my driveway. 73k miles. Dealership wanted 1k. The check ball was $4.50. 10m inverted plus was 17.00. 3 hrs to complete. No need for the new plate. The balls are shit. I did replace the trans filter too.

I’am writing to express my gratitude for the valuable information you provided in your recent video. I found it to be very informative and helpful. However, I do have a question regarding a certain situation I am currently facing. Recently, I noticed that the transmission in my truck was not functioning properly. After repairing it, the transmission works fine until it reaches around 170 degrees and then it throws a code. (p0741 - torque converter clutch system stuck off) Prior to this issue, the truck was running properly with no problems. The problem started with the transmission falling out of gear twice within 20 minutes of each other when starting to move forward after a stop light. I have not noticed any other symptoms. I would greatly appreciate your opinion on the matter. Any insight or advice you could provide would be very helpful.

My son had an issue while driving his 15 silverado with a 6L80, just acted like it was in neutral. Hauled it to a transmission shop and they replaced the transmission with a new one (approx $4K). Test drove it-not right, tranny replaced again. Has been fine for about a month and suddenly has no forward or reverse gears. We're looking for someone else who will cover the warranty. Any suggestions on what may have happened?

2012 Silverado, backed out of shed, washed, Service traction control and Stabiltrack messages came up. Turned them off. Went to put back in Shed, Had reverse gear, no line under gear readout (Auto). No acceleration in forward gear (I could feel) where it was. Left on lawn, stewed over it all night. Got up early. Started up, put in gear (little selector) line showing up. Straight into shed. Told possible TCM. ? Any ideas ? before I phone Eastern States tomorrow. We are in regional Western Australia and little to no service here. Possibly have to truck to Perth.

I'm having this exact same issue as of yesterday in my 2015 Chevy SS Sedan with the 6L80E. I can reverse just fine, but when I put it in drive or 1st gear, it scoots forward very slowly like molasses, and even when I floor the gas pedal while in drive, it just revs really high and the engine starts to sputter and damn near shuts off. I'm hoping I can get this fixed soon!! Very stressful for me right now since I just had a baby 2 weeks ago, and I'm down to one car now! Smh

So your transmission is potentially slipping and you thought that "flooring the gas pedal" would be something smart to do... Interesting... For those of you who don't know better-if you ever think your transmission is slipping DO NOT EVER UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES stomp the gas pedal... If it is slipping you will instantly and permanently destroy whichever clutch pack was slipping requiring a full rebuild... DO NOT do this.. If it's slipping get OFF the gas, not ON it... If it's slipping baby it as best you can until you can get into it to see what was causing the slipping.. Slipping means certain death.. Flooring it while slipping is like slamming your male reproductive parts in your car door just to see what the results will be.

I just bought a 2015 6L90 core for my swap for $300. The guy stopped at a gas station, turned it off. When he came out nothing. Wouldn't go into forward or reverse. Hmmm maybe that shift lever problem that is happening where it pops out of park or won't come out of parkm ?

How long did it take u to change out everything I've got a 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 she sits up high, 9" lift kit n I was told that kits and big wheels n tires will make a transmission go out fast......that was from the guy who rebuilt the transmission before all this happened, that's how I know its not the transmission.......it has less than 3k miles on it from 5 yrs ago being built.......I didn't drive her like that.....she use yo be a show truck

Yes. You have to split the valve body after you remove it to easily change the check balls.

I got a P0796-00 pressure control solenoid C performance or stuck off. 2016 Silverado 4x4 78k miles on it. Shifting problems or high rev without truck moving. Any input here ?

Has the trans been serviced? Could be as simple as a new filter and fresh fluid. Could be as bad as PCM issues or trans failure. Always start with the basics. Let me know!

So I dropped the tranny pan, Lot of metal flakes than usual. Changed the pcm and problem persisted. Dropped tranny and my clutches were burned and pump was scratched..

bought a truck w/ 17000 miles wrecked. because of a health issue it took me 2 years to finish it. on initial test drive i had no 3 4 5 6 gears. rechecked fluid and it had water in it. towed to dealer for flush. towed it back same problem . Thoughts

I would look into the possibility of a bad radiator. They are only plastic on the sides and can crack internally, causing fluid mixture. If that's the case, you more than likely have some damage in the trans from water intrusion. But this is only MY opinion! Best of luck

What I was wondering is, what damage could it have done in a 12 mile drive, do you think it could have affected something in the valve body or tecum or is the transmission toast? Water doesn't compress like oil does so I would imagine it did some damage to something, which is obvious. The only way to find out is to pull the pan and valve body for an exam then go from there

Hi I have a 2017 2500 hd 6.0....almost same symptoms.....have reverse....when in D wont move....just revs. .....here is my question.....I put truck in L1 then used electronic manual gear shift and put truck in 2nd gear.....thats how I got it home......in your opinion do you think it could be the same problem???? I can do the job no problem .....except its winter here in Canada and i cant do it outside.....would a dealer or tranny shop just do that if I asked them to? Also would a flush and fluid change fux it until summer comes around....lots of questions sorry...lol Thanks in Advance Andrew

Does this happen to 4L60e transmissions too? I'm sitting in a cold truck with no forward gears, 1 hr late to work trying to figure out what is going on. Transmission shifted kind hard into 1st for about 1yr now.

I can't say from experience but I'm sure it is a possibility. If it does it when cold then I would suspect something with oil flow, plugged filter, low trans fluid, plugged valve body orifice. Still have reverse no problem?

@@griffsgarage6028 Rev. Is just fine just exactly like the video. Was driving just fine almost all the way to work. Stopped at the gas station for a red bull. Put it in gear and tried to accelerate quickly. Heard it shift hard as usual, then it felt like I was in neutral. Shut the truck off, restarted it. Had nothing but reverse. At that point I was able to eliminate bad u joint/damaged drive shaft, then after watching the video I realized I still had pressure cause I still had reverse.

You could have blown the forward clutches or something internal if it was shifting hard

My transmission (4L60E) on a 2011 Tahoe will shift into reverse and forward gears until it gets warm, then it won't shift at all.. fluid wasn't red, like it should have been, I'm lost, help! 😩

Dies drive function go in and out ???? Was sitting in a drive-through when it started acting funny and wouldn’t move forward it would rev up I gave it some gas and it started creeping forward left the drive-through was able to make it about a half block down the road and start doing it again until finally it just stop moving forward and I rode to a stop it felt like every once in a while I wanted to move forward but it wouldn’t I started playing with the four-wheel-drive functions and finally I gave it a shit ton of gas it rubbed a pie and it started moving and I was able to get it home where it started acting up again doing the same thing I’ve had it parked thinking it must be my transmission? It seemed shift OK when it was running

I just had a customer with a similar situation the transmission will not go into drive, only reverse but if I drop the level all the way to the l and then choose number two and slightly accelerate it will go into gear and then as I'm driving I just shifted to d and it goes through all the years normally except for the first gear,

i did, i had to remove the solenoid plate and replace the plastic check valves, took about 2 hrs, and like $200 after fluid and parts. @@dumbolove303
