When I searched "oil pressure gauge drops to 0 when accelerating" your other video was my first hit. It seemed promising, since my vehicle is a Chevy express with a 5.3 engine and I've had this problem for quite a while and haven't noticed any knocking... I'm going to check it out, maybe for once, the engine being back in the cab will make it easier to get at than it would be on a truck. Anyway, thought sharing my search term might help your SEO or something. Thanks for the vid!
Thanks for the video. Got this same alarm on a '13 GMC Sierra this morning. Oil pressure dropped, and blood pressure skyrocketed. Pulled over did a quick inspection, checked oil level, no leaks, no heat issues, and no new noises. Started the engine back up had no alarm but felt 5 years older. I will check that filter.
Very helpful! My oil pressure gets lower the more i drive. And eventually gets down to 10 or so and i hear lifter noise. I replaced the sensor and screen. Now im dropping the oil pan and checking the pickup tube. I heard to plug the oil relief valve.
Thanks, I just got a bit Freaked out! I've been turning wrenches my whole life n I know if the oil pressure was actually low my valves would rattle like Hell!
I guess my next step will be hooking up a pressure gauge and comparing it to my oil pressure gauge on the dash to make sure that I am getting the same reading..
Just replace Cam lifters oil pump oil sending unit Time gear gear still having problems with low oil pressure when the motor warm up get low oil pressure light come on
I changed mine about 4 years ago now getting that same condition. Why if they have so many issues do they keep putting it back there? I never get these companies. I used to be a big GM fan but they are losing me more and more. Now I have these codes. P0302, P0303, P0304, and P0308 2010 Suburban. I have a 2004 Dodge ram 1500. This thing has outlasted 4 other cars and still is my go-to vehicle when the others are acting up. Cannot kill this thing. 200K miles and still outruns all others. Do you know what might be the cause of these codes? I changed the 4 fuel injectors. It says short circuit on the injectors but that is not the problem even though it's the code. My brother has a Platinum Escalade that Paid close to 120K and has been nothing but headaches with the transmission. They jerked him around for 3 years until the warranty ran out now they admit transmission is no good.
Mine stopped working 3 years ago. I knew of this issue and I also I know I really DO have oil pressure from the lack of clacking. The reason I haven't replaced it is because ever since it stopped working, the active fuel management system doesn't engage (AMF) so I figured this has deleted that system which is what I want. Anyone else had this happen?? Diesel dog?
Okay here is the update I put a mechanical gauge on my 5.3 l 2013 avalanche my oil pressure reading was at 80 Psalms cold and when it got warmed up to 210 I had oil pressure of 59 why is that different from the gauge inside the vehicle now I think I've got too much oil pressure from that high volume oil pump with the stiffer spring your thoughts would be helpful least I know my motor bad..
Having this problem. Starts at 75% life of oil remaining. I do lose oil. But i keep an eye on it. Paid 1100 to fix and was good for short time. I changed the sensor. That's not the issue. I'm wondering if pick up plug?
09 silverado 1500 4x4 with 5.3l that has had dod deleted. Pressure was fine before delete was done and short time after. Then got the low oil pressure sensor code and replaced the sensor without a screen put back in. Now when I crank the truck, pressure is at 40ish when cold, but once engine warms up pressure drops to 20ish and stays even if I rev the motor. Have seen where some say o ring on pick up tube, mechanic has told me needs a pump. Best way to do either of these? Do I need to pull motor? Truck has approximately 185k+ miles.
Did you ever figure out the issue?? I also did the dod delete i did replace the o ring but left the stock oil pump. My truck at idle stays at around 20 psi and does go 40+ when driving but before the delete at idle it would be at 40 psi and while driving would go past 60.
I had a stuck lifter and fixed it with the lifter release tool, after putting everything back in I started to then get this oil pressure drop where it slowly drops after about 5 min of driving. Not sure if this is really related to this one but would love your input! Thanks
@@hilyerhome7395 sorry to hear that man. I took out the intake and put a new oil pressure sensor in cause I read where that might help. Also flushed the oil, put new oil and a filter to be safe. When I cranked her up I started misfiring again 😭
@@hilyerhome7395 also I was able to drive it around for like 2 minutes before misfiring and the oil pressure did seem healthier than before, and wasn't moving too much, it would've already started dropping by that point p
ok i need help i replaced the sensor and not the screen in my truck then i watched you vid and took the screen out and tossed it because i thought the screen was causing my issue so i started the truck and got 40 pounds of pressure at idle perfect. then i went to go for a drive and pressure dropped down to 20 pounds at idle and when i hit the gas driving down the street the pressure goes down the harder i hit the gas the lower the pressure goes any ideas. my engine light came on again during my test drive also p0521. brand new sensor and no screen please tell me im not killing my engine by driving like this
I have a 2011 4.8 and replaced the oil pressure sensor and I'm still having the same issue. Shut truck off and turn it back on, I can drive 5 miles then it comes back on. What could cause this? Computer or ground issue?
When first crank vehicle oil pressure is low and hear valves tapping, after vehicle warms up oil pressure goes to normal and valves not tapping. What causes this?
So after replacing my oil pump with a high-volume oil pump I put a mechanical gauge on the Port were you prime your oil pump after you install a new pump cold start was 80 lb of PSI which I thought was high when it warmed up to running temperature the pressure was 59 psi so if I have that kind of oil pressure why do I not have that kind of pressure at the gauge inside my vehicle am I losing pressure from the pump to the sending unit on the top of the intake manifold is the pressure relief valve opening and keeping the pressure from reaching the sending unit I would cast right at the sending unit at the intake but it's really hard to get back there but I guess that's going to have to be my next to figure out why my gauge in the vehicle is saying different from what the internal gauge is saying what do you think any information at this point would be helpful..
My 2010 gmc sierra 4x4 1500 oil stays at zero . I changed out both my valve covers for the upgrade ones . My oil Guage was normal then after a cold freeze in Texas the oil Guage stays at zero and won't move but oil level is good. What could it be?
I just had the lifters replaced on my 08 Silverado 1500. Oil pressure is now 18psi at idle and 25 or so at 1500rpm. Mechanic is telling me bad oil pump. I'm thinking this screen or pickup line since the replaced the oil pan gasket already. What do you think?
I have a 2007 Chevy When it's cold you can hear a clicking Voice After it warms up it goes away but the oil pressure is 0 when it starts when it's cool what do you think it could be can you please help me out thank you
So I changed the oil pressure sensor, o ring, oil pump, lifters and crankshaft and still having low oil problems don’t know what to do now other than get rid of my 2013 Chevy Silverado it’s been quite the pain trying to figure out what’s wrong with it
So I replaced my oil pressure sensor and the screen, and it shows 30psi also replaced knock sensors and truck is still struggling to accelerate feels like the truck is pulling back and also replaced air filter,
If I've already replaced the oil pressure sensor and filter down there and it's still saying no oil pressure with the bells and whistles. That mean I need a new oil pump?
try a different battery believe it or not the bcm can cause malfunction to communicate the sensor itself. happened to my 08 vortec max as well… sat for a year no driving and started it up to lop shut off engine as well
Mine is a 2010, oil gauge on dash quit reading, doesn’t move at all. Would this be my issue? Haven’t driven for about 2 months now, but when I started it this morning it had a small ticking noise? Oil reads good on the stick. What do you think is my problem?
OK. Just bought a 1995 chevy silverado 1500 5.7 V8 that when you crank the truck up the oil gauge reads 40 psi when you accelerate it pegs out way past 80 psi once you stop like at a read light it returns to 40psi. Would this be a sensor or problem with the cluster?
2010 silverado 1500 5.3 oil pressure is fine when I start the engine but will steadily drop to 0 as it runs. is this the same issue or do I need to look elsewhere? I Just replaced the oil pump, pickup tube, and all related gaskets.
Question..Is it possible to remove the lifter plate and clean out all the oil passages with something like crab cleaner or deiseal fuel to raise oil pressure again without spending 300 on a new manifold?
2011 Chevy hasn’t been drove in 3 months just started once a week last week when starting no oil pressure could this be the cause haven’t checked codes yet
I have a 2013 avalanche 5.3 l I replaced oil pump pickup tube oil pressure sensor did not plug off oil pressure release valve in oil pan wished I would have done that have good oil pressure running down the freeway starts to slowly gradually go to zero shut engine off turn engine back on and have oil pressure again what is going.on..
@@TheDieseldog yes absolutely I did replace the screen under the pressure sensor oil pump pickup tube was all done what I cannot figure out is it loses oil pressure but the minute I put it in neutral turn the motor off restart it my oil pressure comes back that don't make no sense to me
I couldn't get my big hands back there but my girlfriend has tiny hands and was able to change the sensor. Get someone with tiny hands. Wasn't my low oil pressure Issue. Down to the oil sender I go.
Okay so here's my issue that I'm having I put bad fuel in my 2012 5.3 finally got all the water out until it started running better then after I accomplished that I'll let the truck sit for about 2 minutes and then I'll watch my oil pressure gradually drop and then the light comes on for a low oil pressure, now without taking anything apart first thing something's telling me is my oil pump has gone bad because before the bad gas it didn't show any signs of having issues with oil pressure
Might be a dumb question but would it be possible to push the filter into the engine? I replaced my sensor and tried blindly to recover the screen and kinda felt like I pushed it through or there was no screen to begin with.
I have a question. My 2013 Suburban showed no oil pressure on my way home from work. I didn’t catch it until it was flat at 0. I have no idea how fast it dropped. My issue is that it never alarmed that it was “low oil pressure” and needed shut it off. My check engine light has been coming on for a couple days but no oil light has come on. Not even when it was at no oil pressure. Parked it and let it sit for a couple hours. Went out and checked oil and the oil level was topped off. I just had that done a few weeks ago because I did have a leaking oil filter after an oil change and took it back to them. They replaced the oil filter and topped it off for me. Oil level has stayed good since then. So after I checked the oil level with it off I started it up and checked my oil level again and it had dropped. I assume that means my pump is running because then I shut it off and my oil level started coming back up until it was full again. My oil pressure gauge read 0 the entire time but I never did get an alert telling me my to shut down because of low oil pressure and I never did have an oil light come on. Just the check engine lights has come on. Could this just be the gauge ? I assume if it was the sensor it would have alerted to shut down because of low oil pressure.
I have a 2013 Silverado 5.3 changed the o ring and the sensor but didn’t know about the screen. Should I install a new screen and see if it helps before assuming it’s the oil pump?
Great video. I bought a 13 silverado 5.3 and after a year one of the lifters got stuck I bought a tool and popped it free. About 2 months later same issue so I replaced the liflter. Now after about a month the same lifter got stuck. Any clue why this is happening. I replaced the VLAM and the pressure sensor when it first went down because it looked pretty beat up and dirty.
Your truck may have the afm “active fuel management “ there’s 8 lifers that are for the afm and they’re shit. Go to texas speed and get the afm delete kit and get rid of it bc it will keep happening and eventually take out your cam if it isn’t damaged already
Have you checked the oil cooler plate gasket, mine was leaking slowly but as soon as I changed it my oil pressure went back to 40 at idle and 55 under acceleration. It’s right by the oil filter, hope it helps.
My 2007 Silverado has normal oil pressure at startup. The oil pressure gradually drops as engine temperature rises. By the time I get to normal engine temperature, the oil pressure drops to zero. What do you think the issue is?
@@kevinhicks4390 I had ran across a different RU-vid video that that discussed my exact issues. The RU-vidrs solution was to use a Seafoam treatment in the oil. I didn't believe it would work. But I went ahead and gave it a shot before I started tearing things apart to repair the screen. The truck was noticeably better with one seafoam treatment and an oil change. I ended up changing my oil three times with also doing a seafoam in the oil. I have now been driving my truck for several months with no issues. I'll try to see if I can find the RU-vid video talking about the Seafoam treatment.

My husband's truck is saying oil pressure low engine power reduced. He did oil change and changed oil pressure sensor and it ran for a month and now it's doing the same thing. Help please
Lost the yellow/orange gasket when pulling the wire connector off the oil pressure sensor. Will it work ok without the gasket? Or should I buy a new one Thanks for the very helpful video.
I used to just leave it out, but recently I’ve been putting a new one back in. You can leave it out and be ok, but if there is ever cam/lifter failed you might want it in there.
@@augustinerubio2004 did you ever figure out what was wrong with? I have a 07 Avalanche 5.3L that i replaced the oil-screen in, but cylinder #6’s rocker arm is not moving at all when turning it over
What about removing the orange seal for the lifters port @ 4:11 Do you think it will provide more oil flow to the lifters and prevent them from collapsing?
I put a Melling high pressure oil pump in mine. AFM/DOD system uses oil pressure to work. Something like 22-25 psi minimum to operate properly. Original idle pressure would be right down at the bottom. Now 10psi higher across the range with Melling. They make the lifters too. Found that nothing was wrong with the lifters, it was a pressure issue hence the new pump. Works great. Also had the dirty screen problem. Short runs in cold weather = polymerization of even synthetics. Was on first trip with truck after buying used, Italian tune-up happened. Higher temps and sustained flow cleaned things out, plugged screen. "WTF" at the time. Wiser now. Go to Melling's website, useful technical papers to be found. Also Debo's garage on youtube has video on affects on engines when ran short trips all the time especially in cold weather. Oil flushes or Italian tune-ups are good at least once or twice a year.
I have a 2010 Escalade, when I start the car oil pressure is good, once it reaches operating temp the oil pressure starts to drop all the way to 5psi then the low oil pressure light comes on. I shut the car off start it and it reads 25psi but soon comes on again. There is no engine knock at all or rattling. I changed the pressure switch but didn't know about the screen. Do you think the screen could be causing my problem? 121,000miles 6.2
