if you want the buttons to work you have to replace the whole clock spring and then have your gauge cluster flashed to get all the DIC functions to work. Then you have to get your stock radio flashed or actually the BCM flashed with a VCI number from GM to get the radio controls to work.
@@EL_P2Though and that requires the VCI number to add that function that was NOT original to that truck. I did this to an old Tahoe I had back in 2007 and at that time it cost 50.00. I don't know if it is even possible anymore. VCI stands for vehicle calibration index I believe.
@@obsant7214 with an interface it will work, but obviously only with an aftermarket radio. Only way to get it to work with the factory radio is with the VCI and the BCM
I know I'm a tad late, but are you saying it's possible to do this without cutting or splicing anything? more or less a plug, reprogram, and play? I got a 04 silverado 1500 z71 and I would like to do this, but I want it one hundred percent reversable if need be.
Steering wheel controls are easy to install, change the clock spring to one that has steering wheel control functionality. It’s all plug and play. Here is the part # for the clock spring 26101829
@@joshualaird5303aftermarket stereo would already probably require extra wiring for steering wheel controls, so yes. I’m guessing not only the extra wiring just to make it work, + the clock spring, etc
