I wish this came with the duramax. I love my 2019 colorado 2.8 zr2. 90k miles, off highway daily, and it's been pretty reliable. I love the economy potential and off road capabilities. Hard combo to beat! Also agree with your comparison between the raptor and trx. Funny how people forget what an offroad pickup is actually for. Too many mall crawlers I guess.

There are a lot of naysayers online, because they mistakenly think the price of this ZR2 is on par with a Raptor or even TRX. This truck will compete with the Ford F-150 Tremor & Toyota TRD Pro in “real world” pricing; meaning out the door cost. Given that reality; this is a solid offering from GM. Excellent video as always! 👍🏻🇺🇸

I'm a GM guy and drive a Silverado, but let's be real, a raptor with SMOKE that ZR2!! Run them both at 100 mph in the sand dunes that's the test!! The raptor has almost double the suspension travel... I have been following the development of this truck for 3 years... 3 years!!! And just like I thought disappointment I was a long life DieHard GM guy.. I have a Z71 Silverado I regularly off-road and the rancho shocks on it are trash !!! The factory rancho shocks are trash!!!! Yes my Silverado has been reliable for the way I treat it but the rancho shocks are absolute trash!! Remember when GM ran Bilstein shocks??? my factory bilsteins lasted 230,000 miles on my old ZR2!!! The ranchos on my Silverado we're done at 116,000 miles!!! And most of my Silverado is built with foreign components.. The window regulators are made in the Philippines the four-wheel drive encoder motor is from China the wire harnesses say Mexico and my truck was built in Indiana... The new Silverados are worse!!! Alllll China with a Chevrolet badge...
@420motors
@420motors 2 года назад
So you need a super specific open sand dune environment to ensure the raptor would win. I say bring it, random uncontrolled environments is where the Silverado will shine. Also how dare you compare dssv to standard Silverado shocks.

@@420motors I'm just being real.. Look at GM's history lately.. The lifter issues the transmission issues electrical issues because the stuff is from China the gears aren't cut precisely, the valving in the transmission is not cut precisely because it's from China.. no quality control.. Man like I said I was the biggest GM guy ever!! their stuff is just China garbage now!!! Take that new Silverado apart it's all foreign under that bow tie badge.. No transmission dipstick you can't service the front differential!?! come on!!!! What a disappointment... My 6-speed whines in first gear, a GM technician said because the gears are from China they're not cut precisely.. GM USED to manufacturer the best vehicles, now they are built like Ford and Chrysler to save money.. Sad ..

I know your not a troll man I remember your name your a good commenter. All quality control has gone to hell hasn’t it? I meant that’s what we are all angry about regardless of manufacturer. But in todays market where commuter cars and ford maverick’s are going for 10k over, we gotta be realistic. In the video I stated of how far we went out of our way to hep people get trucks at good prices and avoid markups. That’s why I mentioned if you gotta eat a markup, who would you give your money too. The zr2 is still a value is all I’m saying. No value in the others with out of warranty shenanigans and instant engine codes lol. It’s all bad really. Amazing anyone can afford to make a decent American car today.

@@420motors no I'm not a troll you have a great channel!!! I grew up in a rural area where five guys got in five different trucks and we mudded four and five days a week the Chevys always did the best!! the Ford's always got stuck!!! We beat the crap out of our Chevy trucks those days are gone!!! I've watched GM's go downhill I work on vehicles.. My brother is a body man he was working on a 2019 Silverado that got in a wreck, he said when you open the hood the core support, firewall and front and bracing was identical to a Dodge ram he worked on years ago!!! Like I mentioned before I had a 2001 ZR2 that truck never left me stranded!! I beat the crap out of it and sold it with 252,000 miles on the complete factory original drivetrain the only thing I changed were the u-joints that's it!!! That truck never left me stranded it took a beating!!! those days are over for GM!!! I really hate to admit, but GM's are rebadged Chrysler and Ford's.. Trust me! Take a modern GM apart...

Only issues I have had is the electric power steering rack. I guess it isn't meant for rock crawling. They did replace it under warranty though. Maybe the Silverado ZR2 electric rack will be a stronger alternative once I am out of warranty.

Hoping that's not a new problem, I know a few guys with big lifts on the new Silverados with the electric racks and they don't have problems with larger tires and putting trucks in hairy positions so I'm leaning towards the notion that the 1500 has a beefier rack than what's on the Colorado

It’s clear that you didn’t. No worries. Don’t want your kind around here. Not a single channel comes close to the amount of help we offer our viewers. Connecting with best prices, reviews of trails that limit damage and maximize fun, help with consumer upgrades, show real world comparisons and how they hold long term and what a consumer should expect, even to helping them Post private party through our social media when and if they need to sell, not to mention installs and sharing industry and engineering info that’s unobtainable for normal consumers. We literally hold the hand of a viewer through the dealer, through the finance department, through the trails, through the mods and repair shops, and even through selling and buying new vehicle. No time for viewers like you. Only helpful people welcome. Some people get a leg up and laugh at the rest of the world. Others get a leg up and decide to help the rest. If you did watch the video you would recognize that verbiage from the last seconds. No time for people that feel superior, we are here to help. Not to give you a canvass to shame other owners. Although it does make weird noises up front in the suspension area 🤷🏻‍♂️😄. Your right about GM r&d, best in the world imo. The motorsports division for off road and racing is a super dedicated team. They are impressive. The upper management of GM however is fkn garbage. Wish we could get the good parts of the company separated off lol. If you want some early advice get an intake and exhaust for that 6.2. It will wake that motor up like you wouldnt believe. GM is very restrictive on the stock parts for the V8’s. I was fortunate enough to get mine 2 weeks ago and I've actually had it out at Silver Lake Sand Dunes here in Michigan. I've also owned a Colorado Zr2 and wheeled that as well. I'd compare the suspension to the Colorado (no surprise) and it really did well in the sand. There is a lot of "it's no Raptor" comments out there, but the Raptor won't even fit down most of the trails in Northern MI and has no available front locker. It's a different niche, but a great compromise for a DD and wheeling vehicle.
@420motors
@420motors 2 года назад
Hell yea man. Got this one on the 12th. Got her on some trails today but wasn’t near any sand. Was curious if it felt heavy on the sand. Don’t feel heavy on the trails. Took a hard g out today. Raptors can bag about that rear suspension but that don’t help in the g outs. The dssv shocks kicked ass didn’t even bottom out. Took it on purpose and calculated. Tested our fully built raptor there before vinyl wrap and it showed where the fiberglass needed to be trimmed. Average speed was very surprising. You don’t need to slow down much cause the front can take abuse like crazy. Did you take up any sand hills. Curious what the transition on the slope was like. Always took them sideways in the Colorado zr2 to go easy on the front end

@@420motors yessir it did great on the hill climbs, and as the day was going on I was getting more and more aggressive with it. I was a little worried about it being heavy as well compared to the Colorado but honestly I think it feels pretty nimble. My only gripe is it feels like the ABS still interferes a little in off road mode with on after turning off stabilitrack. I love that about my Colorado Zr2, once disabled it was totally off. I drag raced a Colorado Zr2 in the sand also and it was not close. Which I was a little surprised by, since my Colorado zr2 won a lot of drag races out there too.

Man that’s awesome. For the desert it needs a tire size upgrade for higher speeds on washes. But yea extremely nimble. Didn’t notice any cutting of power. Did some quick donuts and figure 8’s didn’t take more than ten seconds to confirm that I could toss it around just as easily as the zr2. How was the power band on the sand. In the desert it’s so broad that even if you fumble the gears, you got plenty of power at any rpm. Your never really in the wrong gear to stay in control. Enough power to have fun in automatic also.

I agreed to 10k over. But not until I realized that even with a blank check search I wouldn’t find another one for months. Took to long to get on the list. So figured I had 6 months to get early traction and head start on everyone. Should make back every penny. And I tried calling in favors and was alerted years ago to this opportunity. Current production delays closed every door for me though. Honestly just stupid luck that a dealer close by had this. Even the people I called in favors for told me that their boss would not let them sell at under 20k over for anyone. Supply and demand basically. I got nothing to complain about lol

@@420motors I sell Chevrolet out in the Midwest and occasionally take cars to customers in neighboring states. I took a Tahoe to Des Moines a few weeks ago too. Last ZR2 was black and we’ll have two blue ones like yours and a silver being built next month. It’s a sweet truck for sure! I actually had a colorado ZR2 a couple of years ago when I saw your channel and since have bought a Sierra for more utility uses.

Any way to send customers from California looking for no markups in the future. Not all dealers allow it but plenty will be looking soon if you got any allocations left?

@@420motors I wish I could help on that one. Those trucks are like unicorns and the ones we’ve received are usually all sold before they show up. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s some type of market adjustment on any available ones since they’re so difficult to get allocations for, kind of like Corvettes right now. Most of our cars aren’t market adjusted, but I know of one loaded blue ZR2 like yours not pre-sold and I’d be happy to get it to a good home. It’ll likely have a 3-5k market adjustment and I wont have much leeway to help but it is one available. I know that’s not ideal for most people (myself included) but it’ll get you one likely in June.

@420motors is it true the Silverado Zr2 doesn’t have a fuel skid plate? Any idea why GM mounts they’re rear shocks so far inboard and low from your discussions with the team?
@420motors
@420motors 2 года назад
Yea not sure why they avoided the skid plates for the fuel cell especially giving it a front locker and belly scraping 33’s. I’m certain aev will have equipment for upgrades but should be billed as the best out the box offroader and the skid plate would help. Also about the shock placement. I’ve never had a hang up on the rear shocks in the Colorado zr2. No insider info on that but I’m pretty certain again that I know why. It’s geometry. The further out you place shocks, the less articulation per travel on the rear axle. More travel more problems always on all builds. So I thinks it’s the appropriate placement for what the socks were tuned for, while still giving great articulation vs travel. I’ll do the math on the next video

Sooo you're saying GM is the only manufacturer racing their trucks for R&D? 🤔 You forget that Ford started this whole off-road pickup segment 10+ years ago with the Gen 1 raptor. And they ran it in races since day 1. Not saying they're perfect (they're definitely not) but to say that GM is the only manufacturer with engineers following their trucks at races and developing their platform is completely wrong IMO
@420motors
@420motors 2 года назад
So let’s get into it. First off I clearly stated that jeep was there as well. Second of all ford did not start the offroad segment, zr2 actually in the previous century so you are extremely off the mark with that one. Third of all they only ran for promotion then stopped. All the manufacturers do it on first year runs for promotion and then they disappear. Shoot original and new raptor wrap was a nod to the color scheme that ford used in baja. All that happened from that is that foutz Motorsports sells the cage and equipment from that build and ford gets to say they raced. Chevy is still there racing when all the cameras are tuned off. All the manufacturers combined don’t add up to a fraction of what chevy has been doing through the hall family. Remember team hummer? Chevy has been racing with an entire family tree for multiple generations through the Hall family. While the rest race for photo ops and use others kits for r&d. Chevy does it in home and brings the products to market. Have you ever seen a raptor build with a foutz motorsports build. I ordered the jack back in the day. Showed up as an overpriced harbor freight jack that Robby woods refused to let me bolt on to the raptor build. Actually removed my option by welding a housing for a pro eagle. That’s the extent of consumer value ford has contributed from racing.
@sleepyta
@sleepyta 2 года назад
@@420motors you obviously know way more about the ins and outs of the OEM racing side of things. I'll take your word for it. And honestly what you described the racing being (run 1-2 years for photo ops and publicity and then quit) sounds about right for most manufacturers. Props for GM sticking with it. That's awesome! I do think tho that the current off-road pickup segment was established (revived if you will) by Ford and their Raptor program. At launch it seemed like a crazy idea, since everyone has been making street hot rod pick ups in the 90's and 2000's. It is safe to say that the pickup off-road scene would look completely different if it weren't for Ford.
@420motors
@420motors 2 года назад
I would agree that ford does deserve credit for reviving it. People forget that on paper the raptor should not have been successful. It came out in the worst part of the recession. When no one truck money let alon v8 gas money. Should have been dead on arrival or just a crazy idea as you said

@@420motors agreed. I, along everyone I knew was waiting for a new lightning to be revealed. I didn't think the raptor would be a success either. Thought it was cool tho and wanted one since day 1 😅
