I think both brothers in this troop are old enough to go to a bachelor group headed by a non related silverback to learn what it really means to be a grownup gorilla.

Would be good to see Kiyo and Gentaro start or join a male group, or find them “wives”. But Annie has to find a new group too or her father will mate with her eventually. 😬

I don’t know where you see that, kiyomasa seems like he’s gonna be the boss one day, Shabani acts out and gets chased by the the clan. I like Shabani but I don’t know he’s well liked

@@shawnduguay6007it's not Shabani who's acting out, he is the Alpha and Kiyo continues to test him! Shabani is very loving and playful and the troop especially his son takes advantage of that! And if you watch the Hoako troop, Hoaka gets chased by the troop also when he gets after one of the members

Kiyomasa didn’t appear to be drumming at Shabani. Moreover, Kiyomasa WAS being docile and submissive when Shabani was grooming him - then when Kiyo mildly objected, Shabani lost his temper. I agree that sometimes Kiyo tests the limits - for example, being first in line every single time, and scooping up all the Italian rye grass leaving none for Shabani and the others. I’d like to see Shabani assert himself when Kiyomasa is actually being inappropriate rather than during their leisure time when it seems unwarranted.

I don’t agree with you and yet I understand your thought process. We become more empathetic to wildlife when we see animals in a zoo. As a personal example, I saw a rehab center for elephants. This made me pay more attention to their plight in Africa regarding droughts and trophy hunters. I now donate money to help support the elephants. Zoos help bring awareness of animals we may never see in a native situation. It is sad for the animals in a zoo, but I think the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.

Poor Nene , what a a bullshit comment! If Nene stopped taking her son side every time shabani is trying to discipline her son kiyo like any decent silverback , running after Shabani and barking like crazy, she would catch a break , besides no forgetting She kicked Annie all during Annie childhood.

@@stevemorris6790 I’m sorry you feel like I was attacking Shabani. He is an exceptional Silverback. Considering Kiyomasa’s age and size, it’s impressive how Shabani maintains a good balance of authority and love. There just aren’t any words for what he did with Annie. Still, the fact remains, he is going to make sure that Nene gets her steps in. It’s a fact that Shabani randomly hits and runs on others hoping they will chase him. When he met Nene and Ai, Ai was young and so was he. Nene probably treated him more like a son and chased him like a mother would chase a son to protect a younger sibling. He probably never grew out of that as that was the dynamic in the beginning. Plus, she was probably the only one who would chase him. Even now the others start chasing him because she starts chasing him. So in a nutshell, since they met, Nene has been Shabani’s ‘go to’ if he wants to be chased and no gorilla chases him the way Nene chases him. Now that said, she’s a 50+ year old grandmother with no teeth and can hardly walk, she’s not as quick to chase him. Still, she’s his ‘go to’ and he will continue to mess with her until he gets a rise out of her.

He didn’t attack Nene for reasons. Nene always go after Shabani and he knows so he was proactive and no taking Nene or Ai s*it . He has been so nice and kiyo takes advantage of him with Nene back.

All silverbacks run like that. It is to give the others time to cool off. But you will notice when shabani stops running, she immediately stops and shuts up. Because if she doesn't, she will get bit. She isn't the alpha, at this point I don't think she is even the dominant female anymore.

Silverbacks run away to prevent any injuries to the others. They are powerful enough to kill the others easily so run away to stop any escalation after handing out discipline.

Just because they are castrated doesn't mean they won't fight. They have found that out in other zoo's. The silverback still has the instinct to push them out of the group.

His dad had a heart attack 5 yrs ago but his only sister is at Taronga park zoo. Shabani is fit & healthy.

Nene wouldn't know that because in the wild she would have died a long time ago. In the wild she would only live to around 35.

nene has always wanted kiyo to be troop leader ever since kiyo was a youngster. she is still at this.

When you let your mom mate with you, she won't give it up to her husband but she will let her son.😮

Nene is Kiyomasa’s mother. She always protects him and has his entire life. She tries to act like she is the silverback.

@@sowhat7472 I keep getting the offspring mixed up. I thought Kioymasa's eas AI's son. I know Ai is also her daughter but by Rikki, who died. I also thought Ai had two kids. I guess I am wrong.

Because there are 2 adult males in the same enclosure when there should be just one Kiyomassa is not supposed to still be in there at his age, you can't pull him out overnight but there needs to be a plan in place to slowly move him out of this group so he can start his own

I think they have taken AI off birth control....I hope Shabani will get the chance to breed her, before his son does. Shabani deserves more offspring!

​@@SuperPondothey have said that ai has been off of birth control for years. But her estrus hasn't returned, so she won't be mating until it does.
