@@RyansRoadToRally I don't know if the video mentions it, I might have missed it, but how much does the car cost? Also follow-up question - is sim racing worth it? I'm a teenager trying to get into it and I'm looking at the market and it seems I could get a decent setup for like 250 euros give or take. By the way you look like a great family man. Props to you for finding balance between your hobbies and spending time with your family!
@@Artem1s_297 It is so worth it. I have a logitech g920 so not the best and I'm not really in the situation where I can upgrade but I have a 3d printer so I've been printing mods like an open wheel and GT3 wheel. There are sadly no carting tracks nearby and I'm not old enough to even have a car (can;t afford that either) so its a great alternative and isn't as expensive as other options.
@@toinky8279 Yeah but I my question was that if it’s a short lived hobby because the way I see it I will probably not get tired of it very easily due to all the different types of games you can play on it and I’m asking if I’m wrong.
Honestly living the dream. This seems like such a fun adventure. Also props to the editing on these videos, theyre all super good quality and the audio is great honestly!
When someone has a video of a dream car, it's typically something like a sports car, supercar, or some famous retro car based on famous media. Seeing someone get an actual rally car (almost barn find style) is very refreshing from car youtube.
Agreed. I have an 05 WRX and it was a dream car of mine. Ppl think 'tuner boi idiot' a lot when they think of WRX, but there's also the legion of WRC fans and Colin McRae fans who just grew up loving them cause of what they did off road :D
Most people expect me to say something like a 'GT3 RS' or a 'McLaren 720s' when they ask me my dream car but I just want a restored '68 F250 Highboy for a daily and I'd probably get a '95 Miata MX-5 and tune it to be a drift car/daily track hybrid.
My favorite part is your mom talking about you watching wrc when you were younger. Living your childhood dreams of driving race cars gives me hope for myself.
Great choice 11K is nothing and you need AWD in Canada, since it is mainly gravel or snow races. It is easy to find Subaru parts and many good shops in BC ( i recommend Boost Barn in Langley) . In France my friends that race on Citroen Xsara and C4 WRC in Europe struggle a bit to find parts. Check for rust and undercoat the car ( Subarus rust like crazy), check if the car has a modified oil pick up to avoid oil starvation on corners. Don't bother repainting the car dents since you will crash it a lot LOL
I have the illusion that I'll be able to do something similar to this once I move to a country that has a rally racing culture. Mine has none. Ryan, you are making a lot of peoples dream true and I salute you for that.
Wow this was an awesome video man, I went to check for the next video thinking this was some old series with millions of views and was shocked to find out this was a new channel and a new series. I 100% believe you're on track for this series to have millions of views haha, just keep up the uploads. Consistency is the most important factor in social media growth. Also your kid is making some awesome core memories I love to see that
Great series. There isn't nearly enough of this kind of content on RU-vid. We need to see more people vlogging about their experiences in the sport, so I'll definitely be following with interest!
I'm so happy that I found this series and really looking forward to follow your journey in to the greatest sport there is. I've been co-driving for 21 years, starting of with an untuned, all stock parts, Opel Manta from my parents garage. If you're gonna have anywhere near as much fun with this as I've had, you're in for the time of your life! There will be lots of ups and downs, but I have one very important advice for you: Always be well prepared on raceday. Have your car in good condition, prepared for the rally. Have your tools and spareparts prepared, the service crew needs to be prepared of what they are expected to do and you should get to know all the rules and regulations you need to follow, eg. when and where you need to be, what documentation needs to be filled out, licenses needed etc. Be well prepared and you will be able to enjoy the racedays alot more.
Brake boosters are pretty common to find in grassroots racing. Most drivers aren't comfortable/fit enough pressing hard on those brakes the whole stint. Your range of modulation to threshold braking is tightened and it requires a gentle application and release. Enjoying the series
Very glad RU-vid pushed this to me! Reminds me of my journey, which is still ongoing with the normal ups and downs of life. As a lot of people commented, it helps to be rich, sure… but determination matters way more! Seems to me you’re close to some stage miles! Keep that momentum. Excited to follow along 👍🏻
I totally empathize with your desire to race rally. I have always loved the sport and appreciated the athleticism of the drivers. As soon as I tried my first rally sim on a proper rig it gave my heart wings. Since then I've been living with this burning desire to drive a real life rally car. I am constantly searching local used markets but also aware of my own income limitations. For now, I can live vicariously through your channel. Godspeed Ryan!
this series is awesome dude! keep making this! i really love the editing and the storytelling here. it feels like its from a channel with millions of subs. i love rally and i love videos like these! nice job
I just came from The Loam Ranger e-bike video and started down the rally racing rabbit hole when I accidentally stumbled upon this video not even realizing it was you. This is so cool! I can't wait for the day when I can race mtbs and rally cars 😂
Looool, I didn't even noticed until I read your comment, that this is the same guy whose videos helped me to improve my GoPro recording and video editing skills for mountainbiking a couple of years back. The world is a small place sometimes 😆
This is a great choice for your first rally car. Also, you can be rougher to it that you realize right now. I do not worry too much about the steam at the end of the video, that's probably a hose or a small hole in the rad or something. Keep the videos coming, good luck with everything. We're all expecting to see footage from an official rally in the mountains of Alberta!
I just started playing EA WRC recently and it's so much fun for me. This series makes me also thinking of getting a rally car myself some day haha. Looking forward to the next video
Super excited you got a car! I'm starting from a base 03 WRX and slowly building it into a rally car. It may not be up to spec for professional events, but I can throw it around our land and dirt roads.
Your son has the coolest dad. And it was super special your parents could be there to watch their son's childhood dreams unfold. You wife's husband though...a little impulsive on purchases. Seriously though, you deserve all this.
I'm doing the same thing right now. Wanted to go rallying since I was 8 -- that was 30 years ago. Bought a stock E36 in 2019, spent most of this year building it. Currently trying to find the motivation to go back into the garage after I had a brake caliper carrier bolt snap. Sending love from Australia. Cheers, Ben.
This is so cool! Now is the time to live. I bought myself a rallycross car early this year. Can relate on so many levels after watching this video. I’m a sub now, keep it up!
It’s so fun watching someone finally get to live there dream and buy a race car. And yea car buying anxiety sucks I had it bad when I bought my first drift car
Nice car men. Im glad for your purchase and happy to see u making reality of this dream. The engine looks awesome and looks a Nice car to hit the road. Hope u can Make it even better for off road tracks and finally become a great driver!
Dude what a deal! Its funny how I just found your channel and I'm on the same mission as you. I bought my first sim rig about 4 months ago and have been playing dirt rally and wrc nonstop. I have a 95 impreza that I bought at my local junkyard for $300 and I'm trying to build a rally car to compete in ARA.
Thats a pretty good deal for a crc spec caged car! Congrats man. I hope to see you out at the Rocky Mountain Rally and Big White next year! If you're planning on doing rally affordably you'll learn how to do lots of repairs yourself.
this has been a very interesting series so far, I can't wait to see the next episode! I also can't wait to see you at CRC events in the future once you get to that point. I volunteer for some of the events So you'll likely run into me at one of them in the near future! I wish you all the best in this venture!
my name is ryan as well and i found your stuff right after you got the actual car pretty much which is funny cuz im just getting into playing on a logitech g923 right now on dirt rally 2 still trying to get everything adjusted and what not and am on a very temporary set up, but im really excited to learn more about this stuff!
Hey bro, listen. First of all, I can't wait for the next video! Second, you're doing exactly what my friend I deployed with and I have been dreaming of, with a few exceptions. I'll email or DM you from my business account. We've been filming the last three ARA Eastern rallies, including Overmountain, as independent media. I’d love to connect! This project is badass, and I want to know in what way, if any, we can be involved.
Welcome to the GC8 club. Just spent last weekend at DayBreaker Rally in mine. Also did the straight to AWD thing and skipped 2WD 20 years ago. Regrets = 0.
you got a good deal, despite the inevitable rebuild.... you're going to have to learn that thing inside and out 20 times over if you're gonna rally ! Good on ya!
yoo rad torque raceway is in edm, thats cool to see that this whole story is in my hometown. im guessing your in jasper or banff or smth to be 4 hours away. love the video man! i wanna see more, maybe ill see you one day in the crc
I have surprisingly done a similar thing going from sim racer to rally CO driver in a year. Man it's not easy but if you put your mind to it you can do it! I'll be in my first multi day event next month!
Please tell me the next video will be out in not too long. This has been a lifelong dream myself, I bought an old E30 to do this in, but, I want to go your route and buy one that was made for racing already! Rooting for you! I'll live vicariously through you, until I'm in a better spot to do this myself!
This will be cool to follow along with. Mountain biking is my passion but my real dream has always been to be a race car driver. I like rally but I am more interested in GT3, unfortunately I cannot even afford to build a race spec 3 series so for now the sim rig it is!
You drive a fwd similarly to a 4wd 🤙and 2wd can be more fun because you have to carry more speed . 2wd is definitely more fun on the Irish tarmac over here.
no no no you don't look at a your first rally car and say oh that needs a new door lol. It is gonna get beaten on so for now its the beater car! Nice choice on the Subie
personally, as someone that has only driven street cars. i would never want to drive a car without a brake booster. you still get pretty good feel, and you dont have to have body builder legs. i once had a toyota leven with the 4age black top engine. it was a nice car. but the idle control valve got clogged, it took me a while to diagnose it. while it was bad the idle was really low. low enough the brake booster barely worked. pushing that pedal was hard work, i almost reversed into a car leaving a parking lot because the brakes didnt work. i also have driven my current cur under no power while being towed. trying to push that brake pedal and not rear end the car towing me, or let the tow line get too slack. it destroyed my bad knee. ok. not destroyed, but it was sore afterwards, and very stressful while driving. yeah. im sure for pros in shape no brake booster works fine. but for me. brake booster all the way.
I hear ya. Autocross and Rallycross seem to be the best way to get rolling for the smallest amount of cash. I definitely want to get out to at least one RX event!
I've been following this series since the first one popped up a few months ago, but just realized you're in Alberta! If you're ever looking for some help with your race team I've got a couple of friends that would be happy to drive out for an event and do some tech support!
Ya I daily drive my Subaru cuz that’s as close as I can get to actually competing in a rally. Plus I’m already going somewhere so might as well make good use of the fuel right. 😂
