I always sorta laughed at sim racers who used gloves thinking it was a bit overkill, but after getting massive blisters in one long day of driving, I caved. They actually increase grip considerably on my particular wheel material, and this - related to your video - in turn has allowed me to relax my hands more while maintaining proper grip through the corners. Something to consider!

Try tennis wrap tape, it helps alot. My steering wheel grip material is similar to the ascher wheel, very grippy and i like it but probs too grippy. I find using the tennis tape helps a lot in summer

You don't really need it at all still. See max verstappen, leclerc, norris, gasly pretty much any f1 driver that sims and streams, they don't wear gloves. And thats just f1. Most other pros that sim (outside of factory sim) don't wear gloves in the home sim. The only one I recall off the top of my head is Daniel Morad, and probably only because he is selling, and advertising his own glove product. I don't laugh at people if they do it for immersion, but unless you have soft baby hands, you don't need it, and don't need it to be fast. Oh but, if you have an alcantara wheel, sure, you will need it.

@@voongnz yeah people are absolutely free to do what they please 😃 i got blisters from slippage given that the gsi grip material can become slippery when moisture is present. gloves help immensely. not really interested in what the pros do, and it has nothing to do with immersion.

I still find it odd. I understand in real life, but not when I'm playing.

Some have sweaty hands and you don't want all that sweat on the wheel. It either gets slippery or you'll ruin the hand grips.

This goes for everything in general as well, if you race/game/whatever with less tension you gain more control!

Hardest habit for me is gripping the wheel for dear life. Especially in the heat of battle, since often it's done subconsciously. To combat this I've been reminding myself to relax my hands on the straights and building off of that into the cornering phase. Great video, some great tips that not many creators go into detail about.

I solved this turning up FFB to as much as i can handle which makes you tired after a lap or two of nordschleife on clubsport dd+ (15nm). Just go. Grind. At one point you’re worn to a point that its just too much. All of a sudden you google “how to hold a steering wheel” and you will learn you need to lean on with your weight/press on your seat and steer with whole arm (shoulder and chest muscles) and not your hands as if you would a logi g29. Somewhere along that point you also fogure out ithat fighting with cornering forces is dumb because thats your wheel telling you thats the cars grip limit. Turn? Pedal work at that point. And then when you start feeling your chest and shoulder muscles (as it you had some sort of workout). At this point you will also be able to say hey? Just hold the wheel with the same strength as if you would a golf club. This worked for me because you literally cant claw grip on maximum ffb. Will also teach you good practices and what the wheel is telling you.

@@onyxion7 Why turn up the force on your wheel so much? If racers had to steer with that much effort they would never finish a race. Remember also that they drive using their arms, they are belted in pretty tight and cant move around in the seat for leverage. Thats another reason why they generally have the wheel right up in their face, if you stretch your arms too much you will wear out quickly.

Good stuff. It took me years to realize I was turning in too soon on almost every corner.

I find practicing and running TT’s very rewarding. More people should run TT’s because it forces you to drive clean laps consecutively over just going as fast as possible like you do in practice.

Multumim ! I've already been consciously forcing myself to do these things since they gained me more than a second on some tracks, it's always good to see a channel that gives good advice though ! And even more pleasing, a fellow Romanian :) keep them coming, lovely edit as well !

Guilty 🙋. I end up doing this more, as I see my lap time is slow, so I push harder, worsening this problem.

Steering ratio is driver preference, even some Pro simracers don't have 1:1, it can also be used for bigger wheels to feel smaller, so you can make a 330+ round wheel feel like a 310mm (GT) wheel or even smaller like a Formula wheel, this can make a huge difference if done correctly. Also, the important thing is to set the middle correctly and you are doing it wrong, if the raw min is 0 and the raw max is 65535, then the raw of the middle needs to be at 32768 (32767 to the left and to the right) Another thing that you are showing incorrectly is the Max force, since iRacing is from 2008 and at that time most of the wheelbases were very weak, they did the their ffb system to maximize the feedback of the wheel, so it's better to have 100% in the wheelbase settings and lower it in the sim, or even if it's not 100% in the wheelbase settings, should never be close to max in iRacing. Just to finalize, it's a very bad habit to calibrate anything with "Use custom controls for this car" selected, specially not doing the middle correctly because in every car you will have a different middle position, also you need to do the calibration in every car if you do that, just use a car that you never drove and calibrate as default.

My biggest problem is definitely turning after the apex. And your tip was to time it better. But how do I time my maximum steering with the apex?
@MaxnochWeniger
@MaxnochWeniger Месяц назад
Setting the steering range to what it is in the driver is actually not 1:1. You can easily check this by going into the options tab in iRacing, then turning your physical wheel by 360 degrees in either direction and holding it perfectly straight and then see what the in game wheel shows. It’s off by a couple degrees. In my example, I use my SC2 Pro at 900 degrees in driver and have to set the in game range around 888 degrees to match my real wheel perfectly. If I remember correctly, it was the same number with my previous CSL DD.

Well a steering rim compatible for the car is also important, gloves if hands are sweaty or you have suede/alcantara wrap, the biggest mistake is not driving the slowest cars, naked rim, manual, 720+ steering degree, cause everyone stuck on assisted cars thinking they are fast.....its the car itself.
