Actually, the FOV on triple monitors is better than on VR. The disadvantage is that it is on a fixed position compared to the car, you can't spin it around with your head. But it's better, as long as the screens are big enough and close enough. Anyway, I'm racing on VR because it requires less space, and doesn't turn my room into a mess.
Once you get a PC that can run VR then you will lean heavily on VR. It goes from driving a sim, to racing a car in a fully 3d world. There is no comparison if your computer can handle it.
If you can coop with the less GFX fidelity, then VR is the way indeed. I really like VR, but I’m a GFX guy and also hooked onto my triple screen setup.
My only doubt on vr lies in the fact that i’m half blind, meaning i only have left eye vision. So i’m scared it’ll just limit my racing capabilities whilst maybe ruining the experience. But i couldn’t find any stories of vr sim racers with one eye.
There will be some limitations that I'm sure you're more aware than myself. Depth perception won't be there and the FOV will be more limited, at least. But I don't believe it would be much different than whatever your limitations are when racing on screens or driving in real life. If you go the VR route, run all your sims on the OpenXR runtime and get the OpenXR toolkit. There's an option on the toolkit for half blind vision which renders only one eye, this will give your system an insane performance boost compared to rendering both eyes.
Oh good you think a quest is s pain in the butt to set try a Reverb G2 or any headset running windows mixed reality its so fun to setup that's sarcasm only runs right after figuring out you need open xr toolkit and open composite also buy a aftermarket head strap like the bobovr m2 or 3 depending on what quest you have its a halo strap and it's amazing
Damn dude. The only issues I really have with the quest 2 is with my link cable and the boundary. I sometimes disconnect mid-race and it ruins all the fun. I do think that VR sim racing is worth the hassle because it is awesome when it works.
“Impossible with disconnection”, not an issue on Quest 3. The headset is so kuch better from Quest 2 its worht the money even with the still present video compression. Lenses are fantastic, fov is great and comfort is much improved as soon as u buy 3rd party head rest (circulr rubber piece)
I say VR is better a good high resolution one i use a Quest 3 that's missed to the teeth and a HP Reverb G2 the new Quest is good tier good because of it's pancake lenses is so so good
Half of your VR cons sound like issues specific to your PC. There is no inherent lag due to using VR, it is just a display after all. Also, you should not be getting constant disconnections. The picture you showed over your cable shows a bunch of plastic around the connector, try removing that. In addition, it looks like you might be wearing your headset way too loosely based on the video of someone jiggling it on your head. Describing a triple monitor setup on a racing rig as "no setup required" isn't very accurate. That setup alone is a big investment along with the initial install of all the equipment. A properly working VR headset is as simple as just slipping it on to your head and starting the game.
There is some lag using non-displayport VR headsets like the Quest 2 and 3 because the image has to be processed and compressed before being streamed to the headset. It adds some 40ms on average, not a huge deal, but it's there.
This is just my experience with VR. My oculus works most of the time without issues. I have found some cons with VR sim racing although so I made this video to address the issues that I found. It’s great that your setup works great because I think more people should try out VR sim racing. I just thought I should point out some of the issues that I’ve found with my setup.
