I have these and they are really good. I don’t know what he meant by bad bass, as it shines in bass guitars. It’s perfect for EDM and rock and I think and the fit is amazing. I also found the treble to be nice, not as bright as the Tenchjim Origin for example. I’ve seen mixed reviews so I wonder if they have manufacturing inconsistency
Coz he’s fucking lying to let his product compete. I have these to and they’re worth every penny i paid for. They’re really really good. Not perfect, but really good.
Funny enough I just found that the SM4 absolutely shine in 80s and 90s rock like Metallica, Rage Against the Machines, RHCP, or anythibg with that type of studio mix. I haven't heard anything better for that mix type
I agree with you. It's a perfect balance IEM. The bass is not muddy like other and the treble is not that bright that makes your ears hurt. The soundstage and imaging is really good too.
Keeping the hype train in check! I like that you address the target audience of this IEM, trebleheads will love this set, while treble sensitive might find it problematic. Thanks for the heads up and for your informative videos.
Timmy, is "apex" in your A+ tier only like an "excellent" in your S tier? Just wondering if you put "excellent" across the board for storm, does it mean those categories are on the same performance tier as the IEMs ranked below, and that Storm is only higher because it is excellent across the board?
Even among reviewers, there are those who say it has a lot of bass and those who say it has little bass. It's completely opposite. What causes this difference?
Ear cannal (insertion deep/seal). Experience with other iem. For me, lack/less of mid bass really makes it too dry/thin for me.. In some songs, it really shows.
@@akashiam2021 Using with colorfly m1p too+final type e eartips+ red filter but the gold one can be better for some genres o songs, sounds very good with that combination, but with bright dac's they can sound bad.
I find the treble of SM4 is grainy (you could call it airy). I would argue that the air should not be called detail at all, the violin/string instrument irl does not have that grain/air, and the grainsounds like amplified recording noise.
I noticed this too. My friend got this set and high strings like violin sound horrible. I’ve been in concert halls my entire life, and classical music through the SM4, and most of these Harman iem’s sounds terrible. Though harman in general is terrible for classical because it scoops out most of the relevant frequencies. Harman is really just meant for jpop kpop etc
@@benjaf2002 The thing is I really like SM4, its instrument separation is superb. The Zero Red's treble is super smooth, so you might find the grainy treble of SM4 disappointing if you like smooth treble. I don't have the Nova, but let me tell you how I change my mind from hate to like the SM4. I found the grainy treble is partly caused by its cable, I swap the SM4 cable to the other IEM (Chopin) and I found the treble becomes grainier. Later, I swap the SM4's cable to a cheap copper one, and its treble becomes smoother, bass decay is a bit slower (which I like), and the instrument separation is roughly the same. Now, I really like the SM4 that has smoother treble.
I heard these kinda sound bad when driven from a phone or laptop. Did you find that it sounded worse plugged into a phone than being plugged into dongle/DAC?
i would like to buy a neutral sounding iem under 100 i thought of buying hexa how you guys think i rarely listen bass songs, other than that i like to listen all types of songs can u suggest me any better or the hexas are great for neutral sounding
The Hexas are superb IMO. They EQ great if you want more bass or treble. I picked them up for $70 and the value is terrific. They are light, comfortable and sound great. They saved on the cable (90deg jack sucks, I ended up cutting it and replacing it for a straight jack) and the case, but it's a nice combo. For reference I also got Simgot SM4 and Kiwi Ears Quintet, but if I want to listen for a long time I pick up the Hexas.

Great review, concise but still comprehensive. Is there a difference between true technical performance and what you call "perceived" technical performance? Just makes it sound like the SM4 only seems to be technically good because of the exaggerated treble.

An iem suggestion for a treble sensitive person who found novas very sensitive that it gave earache for days ? Currently using salnotes zero 2. Looks for suggestions at the max budget of nova.
I love the SM4, and I listened to it before I read any reviews. Sometimes the Hype train is correct, because it’s deserving, if you don’t like the Hype train, get off the tracks before you get rum over
I think it's better than the Quintet, specially for the price.. Not as bright, not as harsh, a bit more punch on the base (almost too much, but not bad).
I got the Quintet at the same time: Summarizing a lot: Quintet is brighter and more detailed, but can feel very harsh on the highs. It also sounds more metallic and unnatural if that makes sense but bass feels more controlled. The Supermix have too much sub base for my taste, but given the difference in price I would stick with them. I think they are much better value.
I want to buy great all-purpose iems, currently ordered the SM4 and the FiiO Ka17. I think I will upgrade eventually, at first there were only positive reviews, now I'm reading and people don't really like them(( What would you recommend for pop and for games? budget up to 1000 dollars ( of course better price-quality, if the iems for 600 dollars is not much different from 900, it's better for 600. ahahahah ), preferably several models, I would be very grateful!
What kind of gaming? Immersive or competitive line fps type games? The directional audio for fps/warzone type games is really nice on the sm4. On the same level as the orchestra lites(which are great) but completely different sound profile.
I really like these, lightweight and sound great for me without eq, one issue is the stock cable- feels heavy, chin slider very loose, also some microphonics- switch the cable out and they’re great
I do like my Simgot EA500, and Supermix 4 does seem like the safest upgrade within Simgot's lineup, but I feel like I've been spoiled by natural timbre with some of my other sets, so I'm more hesitant knowing that the naturalness of the timbre is affected by the treble.

i Do not recommend this iem, even though it's a quad - bird and hype train it has going on, the vocals + instruments are intelligible, bass is not really thumpy without eq , for the price it is not worth at all, ive also had trouble with it disconnecting on high volume, do a favor and buy something basic without all these flashy marketing words
Seconded on the bass, the first time I tested these out my first thought for the song I was listening to was “this sounds good but where’s the rest of it?” Kinda crazy people are pitting it against $300+ sets like the pilgrim
It's a very low impedance set and if you do not have a capable DAC and if it has high output impedance rate, you're fcked up. CCA Hydro more better tuned and a very technical set also praised by HBB, Paul Wasabii, Akros, Jaytiss.
