One of the (very few) perks about the pandemic and the borders closure is having all Thailand's amazing islands free from the big crowds, as pristine and deserted as they'll ever be.
And so to celebrate my birthday I took a few days off work and traveled to Similan, in Phang Nga Province.
Similan are a group of 9 (now 11) islands out the coast of Khao Lak, world known for the white powdery beaches and the world class snorkelling and diving sites. Except for a few bungalows and tents of the National Park, there are no buildings: visiting the islands means to take day-trips from Khao Lak or Phuket, or book a multi-day cruise with diving operators. The two most visited islands are Koh Miang,( island number 4), and island number 9, (Similan) where the Sail Rock and viewpoint are located.
The archipelago closes in rainy season, from May to October, and it's usually very crowded in high season. I don't think you'll ever see Similan as deserted as in this video.
