Welcome to my channel! This is a music reaction channel. For the longest time, I've loved creating content on the internet. I started off with a gaming channel right here on RU-vid, which eventually turned into a Twitch gaming channel, but as time has gone on I've evolved into doing other things on RU-vid. For years now I've wanted to create a music channel on RU-vid, and recently just figured "why not?", so it’s time to give this a go! Give me any suggestion you have for music reactions, and I will do my best to get around to them. As music has fallen further out of my life, I figured this would be a great time to get reintroduced to music.

"Kathy's Song" is about the Kathy in "America" and has, I believe, the most poetic lyrics Paul ever wrote.

When these songs came out in the 60's it was a time when many young people were feeling the urge to travel around the country and see where they fit best. It was a real migration of people across America so these songs resonated well with the audience of that time.

Great tunes - Back when I was a very young man, my best friend and I listened to Simon & Garfunkel's song 'OLD FRIENDS,' which is about Old Friends sitting on a Park Bench when they're old and in their 70s. We vowed to meet again at 70. Seven years ago, we traveled and met again. We sat on Park Bench and talked about the golden summer days of our youth. Music can make lifelong friends. If you ever get a chance, give OLD FRIENDS a listen. Friendships of youth and brothers in the military always have a special bond. Thank Brotherman for the music and to the subscriber who requested it.

You can see from this that while Paul wrote the songs, Artie did the heavy lifting when it came to the beautiful sounds they created. Paul was a small man and had a small voice. Artie carried the two with his creamy harmonies. And of course, only Artie could have turned Bridge Over Troubled Water into the epic masterpiece that is the pinnacle of both their careers.

Art must have taken the line “walked off to look for America” to heart. He wound up doing just that - he hiked the entire US between 83’ & 97’, in 40 connected sections, writing poetry along the way.

They also have a song called, "American Tune" which is cool too. A friend and I have been covering it for over 30 years.

Two of my favorite Simon & Garfunkel songs♥ I hope you will check out the original studio versions sometime. After you hear their original version of "America," you might want to see David Bowie's performance of it at the Concert for New York City in 2001, it was very moving.

Hey Shawn, love ya bro. In America, the lines "Michigan seems like a dream to me now" and "It took me four days to hitchhike from Saginaw" lets us know that their journey began in Michigan.

I loved these two guys since the 60’s singing Hello Mrs. Robinson, “ which was a movie at the Drive In theaters. We sat in our cars with speakers for each car…I miss those times.👍💚

Some great Paul Simon solo tunes you should give a try are: Kodachrome", "Loves Me Like A Rock", "American Tune", and if you haven't already, "Me and Julio Down By The Schoolyard".

The Boxer is great. Simon continues to make great music on his own- Late in the Evening, You Can Call Me Al, 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover, Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes…to name a few.

It’s clear that they hadn’t been playing together. I saw them in 1968 when I was 14-15 years old and it was a fantastic experience. Also, there is are 2 videos from Saturday Night Live in the very early years where Paul and George Harrison perform Homeward Bound and Here Comes The Sun. Audio isn’t great but it was great to see those legends perform together.

I love America but this is far from being a good version, Paul`s vocals here are not great . You need to hear the studio original to understand what a stunning song this is.

I’ll never figure out why live versions are used for first time reactions. This is a great channel but live versions first time annoys the sht out of me. Moody Blues/Nights in White Satin is the perfect example. Enough of my whining!✌️

I always thought America was about how lost and demoralized our country became following the deaths of. MLK and Bobby Kennedy. The stone was really. at the bottom of the hill.

@@thomasmoroney1079 He didn’t choose this, it was a donation request (not mine. Although I’ve made a few requests here for live versions before he’s heard a studio version, and I don’t regret those). I can think of many reasons people make requests for live first...they might really want him to hear a particular live performance, and don’t want to wait months for him to play (or someone to request) the studio one first, or maybe don’t even like the studio version (or not enough to pay for that version too), or they first knew the song from a live album, or just strongly feel that the live version is the best one. That said, I think studio first is better, in general. (And I'm glad that he does usually choose studio first when it isn't a request.) But on any channel that accepts donation requests and listens to suggestions, sometimes there will be live versions first, and people will disagree about whether they were a good choice. (Some people feel that live performances are better in general, or that certain bands should always be heard live.) IMO it isn’t that big a deal…he can still hear other versions and be amazed by them.

Go back and listen to the studio version. This is a reunion concert more than 20 years after they split, and they were no longer in sync, either musically or personally. Their 5 studio albums together are your best bet.

Regarding a song about immigration to America, you may be thinking about Neal Sedaka's "The Immigrant". That song reaches its lyrical and vocal apex with the phrase "a mystical magical land called America" although the word America isn't in the title.

Simon & Garfunkle have a cute, silly song called "Punky's Dilemma" that is quirky and fun. I also recommend you hear "Bridge Over Troubled Water" live from Central Park. It is extraordinary. They have so many incredible songs! BTW there is a song by them called "Kathy's Song." Thanks for your reaction.

Fifty Ways and Julio are both Paul Simon solo songs , not Simon & Garfunkel .

Two amazing songs! Shawn, you should react to the incredible cover of "America" by Yes. That's right, Yes!! It's a much longer song than the S&G original and it is VERY Proggy! I love it. ❤✌

As everyone mentioned, there are better recordings of these songs but they do sing wonderful live as well, just not this performance. Please give these songs another shot.

I'm not sure it's accurate to refer to the phrase "look for America" as looking for the American Dream. I think it's a bit more obscure than that. More like looking for the real America, not the one found in movies and television. I think the concept of the American Dream is somewhat over used and doesn't really mean much of anything anymore, because over three hundred million people probably would define it three hundred million different ways.

There is a reason that Studio versions are put out before any concert includes the song, and this Homeward Bound is one of those examples that prove the wisdom in that choice. This version is AWFUL. They are singing out of sync and time and when compared to the studio version this is coma inducing. Sorry this was your fist time hearing that song.
