The concerning part is more the game against Denmark. Drawing against teams with a low block can happen and you need more width to deal with it. The game against Denmark wasn't a team playing a low block the whole game, it was 50:50 when it came to possession and England were the ones sitting deeper and just got out pressed, that game is more indicative of what might happen vs a better team.

No disrespect to Slovenia and Serbia but England should be beating these teams comfortably with the players they've got, Denmark are quite dangerous so a draw is pretty ok. Southgate is holding this team back with his negative tactics and refusal to play players in their natural position.

I think Mainoo has to play as he did very well, Palmer and Gordon should play. Here's an unpopular opinion, Kane should be dropped. He looks way off it.

The reason the tempo changed had nothing to do with the manager, Mainoo and Palmer had a point to prove and just played football and the rest of the team looked better because Slovenia were never a real threat.

The fact that some of these players are playing fantastic football at their clubs means very little. We have seen this on many occasions in the past, I remember Barnes and Beardsley playing fantastically at Liverpool in the 87/88 season. However, when they went to the Euros that year with England did nothing and we lost every game. It is the England football team disease.

I don’t get this idea that playing better teams will open it up and favour England If you’re an opposition coach, you’ve just watched perfect examples of how to beat them - sit behind the ball, allow them to have it cos there’s no creativity and then hit them on the break. So obvious.

What a contrast with the performance of Georgia against Portugal last night. Georgia were brilliant- tactically perfect, aggressive, broke away with speed, skill and determination. A 4-4-2 formation, defended deeply, never more than 10 yards between the back line and midfield. Aggressive pressure on the man with the ball. Result- an impenetrable defensive wall. Skilful breakaway attacking at speed. No tippy- tappy football. A joy to watch! Simple tactics, perfectly deployed. The opposite of England, who are a confused, rag tag of a team devoid of organisation and ideas. Having the best players is simply not enough when they don’t know what to do.

That left hand side needs to be unlocked. Start Gordon on the left or play Saka at LWB so you can fit Palmer in. England will play better against better opposition where there is more space for them to play. You don’t need to perfect or define THE starting lineup. If the opposition is weak, play a team to unlock a low block. Palmer and Mainoo were perfect for Slovenia but Southgate can’t even puff his chest out against them smh

It was clear last night that only a few players have brought in their club form with them. Gordon and Palmer showed it but had only 20 minutes on the pitch between them. However several out club form players have brought this with them Kane, Trippier and Arnold Bellingham is for some reason hopeless he was passing to Slovenia last night. Rice and Bakaya are a bit off I suspect their hard season chasing Man City has taken its toll. I found out the other day from a Talksport pundit, that they could have taken Chilwell as he is over his injury and he was clearly saying that Southgate's decision to take Shaw was rather poor one. He may be fit (Shaw) for some matches but he will not be match fit so it's not going to work.

Start Palmer, Mainoo, Gordon and Watkins. This team badly needs pace, energy and commitment. All this top young talent sitting on the bench and maybe getting 5 or 10 minutes at the end. It's criminal not starting any of these young players. Southgate doesn't know how to use his squad.

Did he take the "best" players? Or should he have taken the best team. English fans are on their backs when it's not going well! Who needs fans like that? Real fans support their team through thick and thin.

Draw doesn’t favor them. We don’t have Serbia in the round of 16. We are not beating Netherlands unless life jacket-in-a-bathtub Southgate changes tactics.

Soutgate is kinda jammy when it comes to the luck of the draw. Weak group to begin with and then we find ourselves in the opposite half of the draw to the best sides.

I think people forget the poor form we had before the tournament. This is not a new thing, england have been poor for a while now.

It's evident that the established players in the group: Pickford, Walker, Trippier Stones, Rice, Bellingham, Saka and Kane have become a reflection of Southgate's drab personality. They're not exhibiting leadership when it's needed i.e. when the team drops deep after scoring. And the attackers seem to be playing safe, playing with fear and not taking risks. Compare the performances of these lot, to the energy, creativity and risk-taking that Palmer, Mainoo and Gordon showed on the pitch. The new players haven't had time to absorb Southgate's negativity and are therefore able to play with some flair and freedom.

I always thought international football was supposed to be a bit of fun…but what Southgate has done is made it so boring, and it’s fast becoming a parody of Mike Bassett. You can’t play 3 right backs, and Kane in DM and expect to win, surely that’s basics. Best players we’ve had and worst manager. Even Martinez at Portugal had at least won an FA cup to speak of, but we go with the guy with a 29% win ratio (that even Rooney would be embarrassed of).

The only reason our defense has been the best part of the team is because we have been playing poor teams. Netherlands will probably destroy us if we play them.

Playing players out pf position in this day and age is ameturish, when your a club manager with limited options more understandable, but when you have 20 premiership clubs and 22 championship clubs to select a squad from ludicrous .😠

Can we get a “at this moment in time” klaxon, QI-style? It’s unnecessary to use it because the players and pundits are all talking about the current situation. But beyond that, there are plenty of ways of saying “currently” that don’t have 6 syllables: at present, presently; now, today, nowadays, right now, at the moment. It’s right up there with “obviously” for annoying football speak.

Who goes into a tournament thinking England are going to win it, what has ever given anyone that amount of hope. I don’t understand why the MSM and the England team always say it’s the pressure to win that’s too much, it isn’t coming from the fans

There are so many problems with this team currently. Fitness issues for key players badly affecting their form: Kane, Bellingham and Rice. - Multiple players out of position: Trent, Trippier, Foden and Bellingham. Bellingham should be played as an 8 not a 10. - Completely neutered and ineffective left side with Trippier and Foden providing zero width. - Poorly organised pressing. Lack of energy. Lack of tempo. - No leadership. When players start dropping too deep, no one is taking responsibility for correcting it either on the touchline or on the pitch. No one screaming at the players to push up. (Probably why Southgate values Henderson) - Starting 11 playing with fear and not taking risks. The change in this was clear as day when Palmer Mainoo and Gordon came on. I hope I'm wrong, but I can see us going out in R16 probably to Switzerland.

I’m still staggered how poor the quality of play is for players who earn more a week than some can earn their whole career.
