Happy new years guys. All the best in 2017. I've had a few drinks and I must admit, this video has made me realise that I have a massive man crush on Simon.
Awesome idea to do a follow up and talk a little bit about what has happened to the bike in the year. Please do more of these. Happy holidays to all the gcn team!
This was one of the more interesting bike vids, I thought. Telling us the frame size and your height was probably the most useful thing to hear, despite having never thought about it until now.
I really want the Aeroad when it comes to the US, I was bummed that they weren't available as of yet but in the future I want Canyon to be my next road bike!! That black on black on black is absolutely delicious Simon!!
Great looking Canyon Aero Simon. I'm totally with you on the color scheme (I call it stealth mode). I also like your choice of components. Mixing and matching components in a group set allows one to totally dial in their ride. You and the entire GCN crew rock. Looking forward to what you all bring to table in 2017 - Happy New Year!
Simon Richardson your bike is beautiful. I just got a 2017 Giant TCR Advanced Pro 1 Disc, and definitely am in love with the pop of orange on the black, but your raven aesthetic is really nice. I was a bit surprised that you ride a size medium in Canyon, only because I got the TCR in size XL, and I'm 6'4". The cockpit on mine feels roomy, and I haven't noticed any stiffness concerns yet. It would be great if each of you, in addition to showing off your bikes, showed off your personal off-bike setups as well. I think a lot of the videos GCN does offer general or broad advice, but it's interesting to see what the presenters themselves personally prefer too. Things like: - what's your personal garage like (maybe a tour?) - how often do you charge your etap - do you ever use a car rack (I ask because I have one that supports my bike by the top tube, but I'm scared of it rubbing the paint off while underway) - how many times have you crashed the bike and what (if any) damage did it do (I got a small scratch on my Di2 recently after failing to clip in the other foot on a 23% gradient and falling over :P) - what kit are you personally wearing for different climates, and/or what's in your gear closet - what is in your personal saddle bag/jersey pocket - what is your personal training/workout schedule each week - what was your training schedule before you retired from pro - what small hacks do you have, if any, for ensuring you can get out the door on the bike as fast as possible Thanks for all the videos & inspiration!
SRAM gear shifters with Shimano brakes, best of both worlds! plus the added coolness of Rotor powermeter. Colorwise, I think that stealth black matches your personality - no Red flashy like Dan, no Red vintage like Matt or no custom like our dearest GCN's pro bike guru aka the brick : ) Happy new year!
Hi Simon, can the aeroad be a day-to-day riding bike? Have a hard time deciding between the aeroad (which is much cooler) and the ultimate. Please advice.... thanks a bunch!
I love your bike and matted out looks great. I wish I could afford a bike like that. Continue to enjoy your bike. Also, I like to say thanks to you and the rest of the gang. I learn a lot from watching all your videos, take care.
That's pretty cool about the rake wedge in the fork. I imagine if you weren't as tall and needed a shorter stem, leaving the wedge on the 'stable' setting would result in similar handling as you have today. Nice that you can tweak the ride a bit to fit the components.
LisaPet I am british and can confirm that was no attempt at sarcasm, you must be misinformed by the formal definition of sarcasm. Lasty actually chosed the paint scheme and if you haven't seen it, then fucking watch the video.
jay: " sarcasm: the use of remarks that clearly mean the opposite of what they say" (Happy New Year!) Anyway, I wasn't sure hardworking and modest Lasty would ever mention on public what he designs color schemes for bike industry. Thanks for letting me know, I'll definitely watch the video before the New Year ticks.
jay yes but he's mocking how lasty refers to how he designed it way too many times in that video. He is sarcastic when he says "I'm not sure if if he's mentioned it."
jay no it was sarcasm because lasty always goes on about how he designed the paint so Si was taking the Mick. How bout you watch the fucking video and listen how many times he said "I designed it"🙄
love the Aeroad. Was going to get one last year. My plan was wait until the sales, but then it all went wrong. With the new spec. bike and Britex prices have shot up.
Hi Simon, Would it be possible for you to make a video to indicate which setting is "agile" or "stable" for the rake position of the fork as shown in 2:18? I feel confused what the two lines on the fork indicates. Thank you.
Simon, did you change your BB to accommodate the Rotor cranks and power meter? Love the bike. Looking to add a power meter to my Ultimate and changing the BB from BB86/24 to BB86/30 will give me more choice.
all black is gorgeous ... would you consider changing back to shimano new Dura Ace crank for that all black look? taking in consideration the new Dura Ace will have PowerMeter available as well
Awesome review S and thanks for pinpointing the fork feature. I never noticed it either. Now i know why its too twitchy on descents. Will try the stable feature and let you know 🤘🏻🚴
Hi Si, could you guys do a video on the bike bags you guys use when you travel? I have only seen the vid that Dan did on the types of bike bags. It would really help those of us who are shopping for one.
Great bike! I am planning to start training for my 1st triathlon. What is a good entry level bike to start with? Thanks and happy new year to all the GCN family!
Hands down this is the bike I am buying comes late summer when Canyon lands on the US, love that murdered look all black although I think I'll go colorful with maybe a blue or if I can I'll do a custom fluo yellow frame and then all black the remaining of the the bike
Great video as usually Simon! Well done! I must say I think I prefer the look of your Aeroad with those 80mm Zipp wheels. I was also lucky enough to purchase few weeks ago CF SLX 6.0 in same all black colour. Canyon bikes are super sexy and great fun to ride. Thanks for your cool videos. best m ps Canyon sells black water bottle for only £2.99! it would match your bike
I've got this bike but the 6.0 model not 9.0.. however i've changed my Fizik Saddle for a electric red Specialized Romin Evo. Looks dead sexy. Never knew about the adjusters at the bottom of the front folks... i shall give it a go! Question... do you know if you can buy the aero cockpit separately and swap it with the traditional? I'm looking at upgrading mine to an aero integrated cockpit.
I love the stealth look and I too have a bike in that colour scheme. However after a while you do crave a hint of colour. I usually go for New bar tape which matches a new bottle. Maybe some red bar tape with the new red GCN bottle?
Hi, you seams to use the bike as a all around machine. I do not climb all the time on my rides and was wondering if I should consider this frame . I like you find the design and look striking. Canyon as another model that I like as well is the Ultimate CF evo and to be honest I still don't know witch one to go for. I currently ride a 2009 Colnago C50 Campagnolo Record 10speed with Zipp 404 Clincher.
Tx! Beautiful indeed! So you are 1.85 riding a M size. That would suggest a L for me as i am 1.90 Canyon is at a XL for me. What is the difference between a slighter smaller bike or one wich is suggested by Canyon? Thank you!
size medium for a 6'1 wow!!!!! Was thinking of getting a large pushing an XL on the aeroad cf slx I was thinking of getting and I would be the same body type height as Simon. Now was I completely wrong on my judgment should I go for a smaller size? like Simon??
Hi Si! I really like to Aeroad because I have the same one with same colours. But how do you adjust that front fork feature ? Can you also put a electronic groupset on a mechanical frame? Thanks and a Happy Cycling New Year!
Hello Simon, beautiful bike, I'm going to majorca in 2 months, and I'm looking to buy a canyon, I'm in doubt between aeroroad and the ultimate, but I think I prefer aeroroad. I'm 1.84cm tall, how many cm are you using stem? Could you tell me also the distance between the tip of the saddle and the middle of the stem? I'm in doubt between size M and L Thank you!
cheers Simon. I've got the same frame (2016) in silver running DA9000 mechanical and Zipp 303's. My frame is mechanical group set specific but I want to change it to Sram eTap. Where did you get the cable port plugs from? Also, didn't know about the fork rake change option - nice tip.
What about the new Quarq DZero PM on a Sram Red crank? Funny that you don't have one of these on the Canyon to minimize the mix and match. Could you review the new DZero PM in the near future?
Looks stealthy, I like it. I personally like a little more color tough. However, that bike is beautiful. But yeah, mixing components doesn't feel right. Looking forward to this year's season.
jj95east The most important thing is to get a bike that fits you, so you can't get a smaller one and expect it to be good. However if you're between sizes then the smaller of the two will be lower at the front and potentially be a bit lighter, stiffer and handle quicker. But like I said, a small bike that doesn't fit will just be rubbish.
Absolutely gorgeous bike, Simon. The murdered out look doesn't work on all bikes, in my opinion. But with the stealthy shape and geometry of the Aeroad it makes it look so damn fast. Swap that Rotor for a Sram Red/Quarq and it would be my dream bike. Some questions- I am also 185cm tall, and when Canyon's site recommended the size M based on a few quick measurements I took, I was pretty surprised. I would have thought Large. Could you elaborate on how the sizing works for you? Do you like the fit of a smaller bike? Have you always ridden smaller frames? Does anyone comment saying it looks like it's way too small for you? Is this the size that Canyon actually recommended for you? Have you tried a large? Based on your measurements, are you kind of straddling the fence between being able to ride a Medium and Large? I apologize for all the questions, but any further info regarding size would be great because: A) I trust your opinion B) were the same height and look to be similar proportions and C) I'm saving up to order and Aeroad. Thanks! Cheers
Heloo and than you for the fine review. I've watched the other video where you are saying that the bike is M and you are 187 cm. I am 186 cm and I was thinking to buy an L, as Canyon advises. Could you please give us the rest of your measurements? Inseam, armspan etc. I would love to buy an M as well but I want to check from as many sources I can. Unfortunattely I canot try the bike before.
Simon, would you kindly tell us (or remind us, if that's the case) how you and the other presenters travel with your bikes? What travel cases do you prefer? Thank you. I, too, had my bike stuck in Iceland once coming back to Seattle in route from Amsterdam. The airline had to truck four bikes down to us in Longview (2 hours away).
