One day your children will follow in your footsteps, DIYers home-grown!!! I love this! I am 62, flipped my first home at age 19, and give credit to a father and grandfather who let me help. Your ceilings look amazing! I will be duplicating in a 1940s Craftsman that already has beadboard ceilings but has seams that noticeably are separating. Thank you for sharing! Boomer Sooner!!!! Val
Great job! Not sure where you live but I love the look. It looks "beachy". I'm in the dreaming stage of redoing my very large living room and have always loved that "at the beach" feel. You've given me inspiration.
Thank you for the encouraging comment. We actually don’t live near the ocean, but you are right it does have that feel. Hope you can turn your living room into your dream.
Nice job... I like how it came out. I too have a popcorn ceiling in my family room and decided to cover it with tongue-and-grove (3/4x6") after installing 3/4x2" furring strips. I would typically always recommend furring strips and not directly attach the new material to the old surface, so you can help hide any waviness. I think covering it is a better option sometimes and provides an updated look over just removing it (and leaving the ceiling "flat"). A great option for some rooms to give it an upgrade.
Going to use the headboard in modified drop ceiling in basement keep access to services Will be 2ft x 2 ft panels on a three inch trim framework using embassy hangers
great job, and nice video too. I plan to do something like this with my 1930s house in need of a reno. Does it matter whether you use the pre-primed MDF/HDF beadboard vs. the plywood beadboard? Did the beadboard you used have shiplapped edges? Do you have shoot the nails up at an angle so the board does not fall down over time?
We used the primed just for ease of availability around here. Yes it had the edges that go together. Mostly shot straight with the nails but that’s a great thought about the angle to prevent overtime backing out.
Great job and video. What type of bead board panels did you use? Are they wood, PVC or composite? Where did you buy them? I am restoring an old yacht and need lightweight bead board panels to replace the ceiling “headliner” material. Composite material may not be suitable because it swells when it gets wet. I’m definitely going to follow your lead at home. Thanks for the effort to share your techniques.
@@stephenmoon9830 We used composite, but would definitely recommend pvc for a yacht. We bought ours at Home Depot. Thank you for the encouraging comment!
Thanks for the comment! No, we didn’t use liquid nails. It’s holding up great! We had to touch up the caulk in a couple places, but other than that it has been great.
Looks great ! I love this ! How did you come up with the grid design? How do you know where the tresses are located ? Did you use a brad or finish nailer ? Was any adhesive used on the beadboard ? sorry for all the questions
Thank you for the positive feedback! We knew we wanted the ceiling fan in the center of the full sheet of beadboard so based our grid on that. You can use a stud finder to find your tresses. We knew ours are on two-foot centers so we found one and then measured from there. We used a finish nailer. All the tools we used are linked in the video description. We did not use any adhesive, but it’s not a bad idea if you want the extra security. Thank you for the questions!
I loved it. everything is great, thank you for all the details described. im very new on this. why using finish nails with that angle? I using a wall panel, do you think I can use the finish nails or do I need to buy specific panel wall nails? thank you
Beadboard cost around $27 a sheet and it took about 5 per room. Trim is 1x4 slats that are about $3 for an 8ft stick. A couple tubes of caulk at around $5. And a gallon of paint at around $50.
Getting ready to install this on a tiny house...might be over thinking it...what nail did you use? Finish nail worked ok? I plan to use glue and nails. I will not have sheetrock backing.
Ones again, great job and thank you for your video. Quick question, Did your popcorn ceiling have any asbestos? I would like to know if it's okay to do this project with asbestos popcorn ceiling.
Thank you! We appreciate you taking the time to watch the video. We purchased the jack online. It’s about $110 to purchase. The link for all the tools we used are in the video description.
Great video!! i currently have square tiles for my ceiling, would i have to tear the ceiling tiles down & put sheetrock to do the beadboard? or can i just do beadboard ceiling with the square tiles i have now
I’m not positive without seeing what type of ceiling you have. You are welcome to email us a picture so we can better understand your question. dawnstanley92@yahoo.com
do you own or rent that lift thing for putting the beadboard up against the wall to install; just curious. A few minutes into video I see it , but don't hear a comment about it.
