I saw bath bombs at farmer markets and at booths at the fair, and I even bought a bunch. I love a nice relaxing bath with a bath bomb and my kids even love them more. They get really excited to watch them fizz and take turns holding it in their hands to feel the bubbles.
I had no desire to make them. It just looked hard to me! One of my friends is a "bath bomb expert" and ensured me that it was easy. So I ordered the stuff and decided to give it a try. Yup, she was right! Nothing to it and it was fun. And now I can customize them for how I want them to smell and look!
If you have ever felt bath bomb making would be tough, keep reading and follow along with this simple tutorial.
SIMPLE BATH BOMB INGREDIENTS
1 cup baking soda
1/2 cup citric acid
1/2 cup cornstarch
1/4 cup epsom salt
1/4 cup melted coconut oil
15-20 drops essential oils
1 tsp vanilla
Water
Spray bottle
Bath bomb molds
SIMPLE BATH BOMB INSTRUCTIONS
Mix all the dry ingredients together in a medium size bowl. Stir until well incorporated.
Add in the coconut oil, essential oils, and vanilla. Whisk together until well combined.
With a spray bottle spray the mixture with water until the ingredients hold together when squeezed in your hands. Only do one spray at a time to make sure you don't get it to wet.
Prepare your bath bomb molds by greasing them with coconut oil. I use these molds but you can also you a plastic easter egg or Christmas ornament.
Press the mixture into both sides of the bath bomb molds and then press the two sides together. Rub the access mixture off the sides and set aside.
Allow the molds to sit for 24-48 hours or until completely dry and then pop out of the molds.
ESSENTIAL OILS
Essential oils are what make these bath bombs, the bomb! ;) As they fizzle into the water the essential oils are released. It makes for the ultimate relaxing night and can provide you with many benefits. As the essential oils go into the water they will soak into your skin and enter into the bloodstream. You can make up different blends or just add in one oil, I will share with you a few of my favorites!
ORANGE DREAMSICLE
This one is my kids favorite! Make sure to use the vanilla that the recipe calls for and add in 15-20 drops of wild orange essential oil. It smells like an orange dreamsicle! Get extra fancy and add a couple teaspoons of orange zest to the dry ingredients to add color and texture.
Wild orange essential oil is a very uplifting oil that can help promote a positive mood. It is also a great oil to use for immune support.
ULTIMATE CALMING BOMB
10 drops lavender
5 drops sandalwood
3 drops vetiver
2 drops roman chamomile
These essential oils are all very calming and can promote feelings of relaxation. I love the scent and it works great to use in a bath before going to bed.
CONGESTION RELIEF
10 drops eucalyptus
5 drops peppermint
5 drops siberian fir
If you are dealing with any type of respiratory issues, this is the blend for you! I like to keep these on hand for when we need them; no one wants to be making bath bombs when they aren't feeling their best. Add this bomb to a warm bath and breathe in for instant relief.
FLORAL BLEND
I love making a beautiful blend of floral essential oils for just about everything. Floral blend room sprays, diffuser blends, and now bath bombs. Nothing smells better or is more relaxing than the smell of flowers, well at least in my opinion.

Just made these for my 4 year old nephew and they’re making my apartment smell like an orange creamsicle. Delightful! Thank you for such a simple and straightforward and easy recipe!! I made them in mini muffin tins and it worked great. Just popped them out after 20 + minutes in the tin. The recipe filled 19 of the 24 available mini muffin tin cups. Thank you for this!!!

I'm going to try this today and place a little "Magic Grow Capsule" in the middle. My grandkids will love it! I hope it works. 🙂 p.s. I added color to the mix and instead of using top and bottom mold I just use bottom and I packed the top together with my hands like a snowball. I'll see tomorrow if it works. 🙂 love the video! thank you.

Thanks for sharing ❤️ I make my own bath bombs sometimes too but never thought to put orange and vanilla together. I have to try it. I use ice cube trays to mold my bath bombs, it works too.

Do they crumble badly? I'd like to give a jar of them as a gift but it needs to survive a long car ride.

The fact that water was used in place of witch hazel gives me major pause... the main tip given to people new to this is the fact that water should be avoided at all costs so that they may avoid early reactions and/or lack of fizz due to humidity. I did enjoy one of the cold process videos though 🙂

Would it be a good idea to add the citric acid right at the end, after the wet ingredients have been already added?

Can you substitute anything for Epsom Salt? My husband is allergic and I'd love to make this for him. Thanks!
@bevdix
@bevdix 4 года назад
Wow - is he allergic to all magnesium? What kind of reaction does he get? It is not unusual to get a bit itchy after using magnesium oil spray or an Epsom salts bath since it is a salt and can be a bit drying for some people.
@sydlant
@sydlant 4 года назад
@@bevdix He is allergic to iodine. Liquid iodine makes his skin bubble, he can't have shellfish or seaweed, and has trouble with Epsom salts.
@bevdix

sydlant I am also allergic to Shellfish and iodine same reaction. Do you think he could use sea salt? Epsom salts should not have iodine in it. Have an amazing weekend!!

I tried this recipe and it feels too oily. It's really humid here in the Philippines, and I found that the bath bombs were slightly fizzing as it was sitting in the mold, creating tiny foam-like white stuff on the surface. How much less oil should I put if this is my issue? It's just suuuper oily and oil actually pooled a lot in the water when I tested one 😄
@emocraps07
@emocraps07 3 года назад
you should add the citric acid in last so it doesn't start reacting to the water.. you could replace witch hazel with water and as for the oil.. I only use 2 tsp of oil with my recipe (a quarter of a cup is way too much in my opinion but the more you use, the more your skin will feel slippery/oily when in the bath)
