***** About Living Traditions Homestead *****
Living Traditions Homestead is all about living a simple and sustainable way of life. We believe the world has gotten too “busy” and that people are missing out on many of the true blessings this world has to offer. We started as a small urban homestead in Gilbert, AZ and after the city grew up around us, decided it was time leave corporate America and take a big leap of faith by moving our family to the Missouri Ozarks.
We put out 5 new videos every week! Tuesday through Saturday. We hope you will become part of our homestead family by subscribing to our channel and watching as we transition from city dwellers to full time homesteaders!

Hi Kevin and Sarah, I needed to move around during the pandemic. Kevin's bread looked like a great project. So, at 76, I have learned yeast baking. I have made all kinds of bread. kevin's English muffins and bagels. I can not wait to make these molasses cookies tomorrow! I love seeing your family on the farm. You have a beautiful life. Thank you for sharing it with us!

I have a tip, before measuring out your molasses If you lightly grease the measuring cup with butter/oil/coconut oil all the molasses will pour out of the container easy peasy. Great recipe! We love molasses cookies here!

Forty minutes later, dishes are done and forty AWESOME cookies are cooling on the rack. What a treat! Thank you so much the entire family loved them. Keep up the great videos, happy gardening. I never use unsalted butter, ever. My daughter works for a company that makes dairy products, she designs the production schedules, monitors all aspects of production. I digress, she told me unsalted butter has extra acidulants, coloring and flavors put in to improve the flavor. The acidulants act as both flavor enhancers and preservative. Not unhealthy 1s but still there. She also told me that all butter must meet fda specks for certain amounts of salt. If something calls for unsalted butter i use salted anyway.

Have you all tried growing ginger? Candied it makes great tea and I chop it fine for recipes that call for ground ginger - even better since I like that little pop of hot. Molasses cookies are my favorite with candied ginger bits. Thanks for your recipe.

Ginger also fights inflammation! My only "pain med" allowed as I have Celiac disease. Use GF oat flour to make these cookies gluten free.

I agree with you. My husband's grandmother gave us her recipe and is similar but we only dipped the tops in sugar. They flattened out fine and the sugar caused cracks that gave you both chewy and crisp edges along the cracks. They were so good.

Molasses cookies are my favorite as well. My grandmother made them all the time. Our recipe is different though. We add ground clove to ours and let the dough stiffen in the fridge for an hour before we bake them. Mine always puff in the oven then flatten while cooling. It's really interesting to see different recipes for the same things.

Two questions and a ton of love! 1. I grew up with local molasses like you describe. It is difficult to find in my area now. Can you compare the difference between the sulfered and not molasses that you can buy in stores? 2. How do you make your vanilla? Thanks LT!!!

Do you mean flavor? I am curious as well as I would prefer to make with the unsulfured blackstrap molasses for the extra nutrition.
