This week's vlog is a kind of scrapbook, a visual diary of a whole month of narrowboat life. Featuring: dreamy summer evening cruises, various wildlife and farm neighbours, trying oil painting for the first time, a trip to London, boating through a small rave (??) and lots more.
Very excited for the next one as we set off on our big adventure, see you sooon!

I loved going to the garden to pick veggies then shucking peas and snapping beans at my grandparents farm every summer, it was my job while Nan was getting supper ready. My Nan used to sneak little cucumbers for my lunch as grandad had a grocery store and wanted them all to grow big for the shop. Simple summer pleasures, riding the tire swing way out over a drop off so it was like flying, swimming in the dam, catching little trout in the stream that ran under the milk kitchen. Jumping off the haymow hanging off a rope to the big pile of hay a story below. Rooting through the hay bales looking for kittens hidden by the mama barn cats while they went to work catching mice. The smells of the garden, berry patches, picking hazelnuts from the back of the big farm truck, having bounced like crazy on the little bumpy fire break road to get there. Picking mushroom in the pasture after days of rain, peeling them and frying in butter to make sandwiches on Nans home made bread. Fresh eggs for breakfast with really orange yolks, finding baby chicks the chickens snuck off to hatch . Taking the leftovers to the pigs and watching the little ones with their springy tails and curious noses. Taking the cover off the well and watching the trout swim round and round , his job was catching bugs and keeping the water clear. I could go on and on but the farm is gone, sold to a winery where they now make use of the blueberry fields up the hill from the farmhouse in some of their wine. Summer is so different now but we live a couple of houses from the beach so I get to enjoy watching the grandkids catch crabs, swim, paddle board and bask in the sun while I slow stitch and listen to audiobooks in one ear so I can hear them if they yell. 🥰 Lovely moods in your video, as you can see I’m pining for summer. 🙋🏼‍♀️

Love the filming, love the shots, love the editing, the normal moments that are the interest, the shopping moments when you can only eat like you used to eat when it's on offer. Observational narrowboat life happening whilst being yourselves instead of people trying to make you tube content. The Merch - I'd like a hoodie with a pylon in the grass with Kris Atomic & a picture of you both in black and white, smiling and looking kinda cheesy & another one with you both hauling a shopping trolley out of the canal on a massive magnet saying - no trolley left behind....Kris atomic productions in yellow somewhere. I bagsy my great idea. It'll be brilliant! Lastly, evolve, don't change.

The movement to ban plastic straws got momentum because a lot of them end up in the ocean where they kill marine animals, including some of the cute ones, that mistake them for food. Bans on single-use plastic cups are coming soon.
@krisatomic
@krisatomic 3 месяца назад
Totally respect the movement, but it probably would have made more sense to ban the lot in one go. In terms of single use rubbish I see everywhere and especially in and around the canals, it’s plastic drinks bottles that feature most frequently by far :(

I love the videos you two release. So much so that I feel compelled comment - LOL: I listened to a podcast the other day where the guest, a UK broadcaster of some sort with a new book out, pointed out that comments on a social media platform are mainly monologues passing one another. Loved Matilda and the Roomba . The night images were gorgeous. Absolutely loved the reaction you received from the hire boat party people 🎉🥳🎈 Kris the swan whisperer 🦢. I do so Love watching your channel, I find it the most therapeutic of all the channels I have watched and your voice is like butter on Hot Toast ( Gawjus 😉)…seriously though you do have a very soothing voice and personality to match. Shelling Peas is definitely something I remember with fondness from my childhood as well,the Village I grew up in used to have a Communal Pea Field and so when I was little,myself, my Mum and Nana would go to get a Dustbin Bag full of Peas ( couple of bags actually…but sshhh 😁 ) and then it would be back to Nana’s and my sister would join us in Shelling all the Peas ( my Nana’s Pea and Ham Soup was scrumptious ( she always used a couple of Ham Bones in the Pot which just increased the flavour ) the Saucepan ( looked more like a huge cauldron to a 5-6 year old ) would be bubbling away on the back of the Rayburn for what seemed a few days and there would be the smell of the freshly baking bread in the background !. It was a thick Soup with Hunks ( proper homemade ham ) and more like a meal itself. I was lucky growing up in a small village where everything came locally from Farm to plate ( not so much lucky for Daisy the Cow ) or the Pigs or Sheep but it was just the Norm 🤷‍♂️ and Yes as kids we played with the Lambs and Piglets,my Grandfather was actually someone who performed the Hammer blow if you know what I mean!. The Village is pretty old and WAS old fashioned but nowadays it’s changed ( not for the better unfortunately),it’s gone modernised and it has certainly lost its Charm and picturesqueness 🤷‍♂️. Used to be quite a few Thatched Cottages but lots of them have gone,still a few but nothing like it was and it has lost its Friendliness and community spirit….. when I was growing up everyone knew everyone and looked out for each other but it has gone the way of people becoming Selfish. Didn’t help it losing its biggest Employer Spicers and the Leather Factory and Works Eastern Counties plus the Chamois factory ( ahhh the smells…not so nice but somehow they were ok 🤷‍♂️ ). There are some Lovely Villages dotted around ( Cambridgeshire ) and the village was Sawston near Duxford,not far from Cambridge and it’s definitely a area where it’s worth exploring,Hinxton Mill is still a very picturesque place ( otters there ). Not Far Away you have Granchester and there you have the Famous Tea Rooms and of course ' Byrons Pool ' ( guess who ?!! ) and if you venture into the Village have a walk down by the River ( used to be a pub called the Volunteer ) and there is a Path that takes you down the Hill to the River ( watch out for the Cows ) they are over friendly. I would definitely recommend a Trip for yourselves on the River Camb on the Punts past the Universities,so much to explore in Cambridge. Give Madingley War Memorial ( American Cemetery ) a visit ( you can take the open top tour bus there ) and it is an extremely beautiful and moving experience there ….. As you walk in the entrance get ready to be mind blown by the Vista that unfolds before your Eyes ! Whoever designed it should be proud of the effect on a person the View gives you,it really hits home of the sacrifices but it is a beautiful place at the same moment in time. Love the Videos ❤❤

@@krisatomic Love your channel and the work you do,there is more artistry in your content than you realise,you have a natural talent that deserves to be praised and respected. Cambridgeshire is a large County with many hidden Gems ( lots of Artists have derived inspiration from the Countryside there…. Plenty of old Water Mills and Rural England). Visit a place called Newnham ( part of Cambridge ( the royal botanical gardens are nearby ) but it’s the walk from the Gardens to Newnham along the pathway with Cows by your side ( common farm grounds in the middle of a City !!! ) and as you walk to the River over the Large Iron Bridge you will see the River in all its beautiful glorious views with people walking everywhere,on punts,having picnics etc. There is an Old Paddling Pool area which in Summer is Heaving with children playing in the water ( I’m in my late 50’s and went there when I was a child 😳). There aren’t enough Words to describe the memories I have of my Childhood. To say I had a Great childhood would be a understatement,we weren’t Well off and my Mum and Dad both worked hard but they made sure I was well loved and well cared for but also taught the important lessons of life…. Being kind and respectful to everyone and anything ( including nature ). I was one of those lucky children who spent most of my childhood exploring and being outside,come rain or shine,My Parents were amazing people and parents and my Dad was the best Dad ever,if I can be half the Dad he was then I’m doing him proud. I have 4 Adult Sons and 2 of them are Autistic,unfortunately their Mum ( my Ex ) abandoned them in 2010,so I am their Sole Carer. I honestly would Love to meet yourself and your partner if you ever are in Cambridge ( I don’t live in Cambridge myself anymore) as had to move to Bedford when I started caring for my children and I could talk to you about some of the memories of my youth. I would Love to know more about you and your partner as well,he seems like a very likeable Character. You work extremely well as a couple and I think it would be a pleasure to meet the pair of you. ❤️❤️
