paint the egg with black acrylic before you pin it , so it the white spots will not be so obvious if you miss a spot :)

No offense but I think an easier way is to paint the pins with metallic spray paint. Just a suggestion'

I used spraycans instead of nailpolish, much faster and can get some pretty amazing results if you mix colors.

this is sooooo cool, i did it as i was watching😂😂, i loved the idea but i had to glue pieces of foam togather then carve it cuz i didnt know where to find a foam egg, but i LOVE this idea and its soo cute

My boyfriend and I made two and they look gorgeous. Although they take an insane amount of pins-- our eggs were only three inches tall with a two inch diameter, and it took about 200 each. I can't imagine how many yours took-- this was incredibly fun. Awesome tutorial! :)

All right so maybe the first thing I did wrong with this was the day I did not paint the tacks. But I needed the egg on such short notice so I skipped that part. First of all there is no foam eggs in Walmart so I had to make my own out of a bowl so basically with sand and at night I made my own egg and first of all there is no foam eggs in Walmart so I had to make my own out of a foam ball that was twice as big as the egg that I needed. So with some sandpaper and a knife I hacked Way at the foam ball and eventually got some sort of egg shape. Then painted over it in blue paint. Here comes the fun part I bought 400 tacks which was a lot more than what I actually needed. So I spent two hours putting these tacks on a wet foam egg. Made me realize how uncoordinated my fingers are and how clumsy I am. Dropped so many and ended up bleeding from various areas on my fingers. I eventually put all the tacks on and it looked like a dragon egg which was great but my friend pointed out that the egg looked like a pine cone. And she was right. Did look like a pinecone, if you ever need a dragon egg on short notice do not do this just go out find a pinecone and spray paint it metallic

This is beautiful! I almost have everything I need to make it. When you said you needed to paint 2 more batches of pins, did you mean 2 more batches of the same amount of pins as the first batch? That would make it 450 pins per egg. is that right? My styrofoam egg is the same size

Your egg is beautiful, and this is a wonderful project. I do have a suggestion - the video could have used some editing so that we don't watch you paint every tack, or watch you put every tack into the egg. Thanks for sharing this great dragon's egg!
