Simple Drill Press Table with X Axis and Y Axis Movement.
In this video I'm showing how you could make a drill press with x axis and y axis movement. Easy dust collection, replaceable cookies, simple but versatile fence. Very simple concept but gives you a lot of flexibility to tackle any projects or add any jigs to the table. Plenty of clamping options makes it a perfect solution for any drill press.

That is a really slick design - from the flexible drill attachment to raise/lower the table to the x and y adjustable table. Using the hole saw as a template and flush trim router bit to punch out the replacement discs was very clever. I have learned something today and thank you sir. Cheers 👍😎🇦🇺

You can say I re-launched the channel yes, after moving from UK to Poland. However I can't still find my mojo. So many projects on hold due to prices of materials🤔 I hope things will pick up soon and my videos will be more beneficial to my community 👍

Wow what a brilliant idea bloomin great Tomasz well done, it works a treat. But and there always is one, the only thing that i don't like is the attachment of the up and down handle, it just means you always have to have a drill by you at all times, if you need to move it up and down? i'm still going to give you 9.5/10. Thank you. It doesn't need a drill, you can just add a know of some sort on the end, and that was my plan. But I'm too lasy and I use a drill, I always got 2 next to me on the vacuum cart 😅

I really like the lift method, however I have a locking bar as well. Could I just remove that, or would the table lower itself with the drill pressure.

Don't remove it, the table will go down on itself. You can try to make a longer rod and have it at the front. That would save the hassle of reaching at the back

Some great ideas.. With continued use and wear did you find that the round cookie inserts could start to spin as the drill bit passed through ?

I think I might go for a square insert - not as pretty, but much easier to make in bulk.

I went for a circle as you get more out of it. Make a hole and you can rotate it and in a way utilise the whole space on it. Although with the ability to move the top on x and y axis you could do the same with square just by shifting the table 👍

that hole saw bit was a bit sketchy, hope your thumbs are still attatched!

No issues with it at all, guided router bit far away from fingers, plus its MDF so the bit will not catch on wood fibbers etc. It cuts like butter mate.

Did you think about solid mounting the table part to a base and using the height adjuster to raise and lower the whole drill? Can remove the heavy foot/base to reduce the weight.

No, the drill is way to heavy for that. The mechanism would not work under that much weight in my opinion.

Great video and I think its a better and easier project than the one I suggested to you.Did you think about setting a tape measure into the X Y tables or is not necessary ?

Yes I did think about the tape measure and got just the perfect thing for it. Although I'm thinking of some extra things for this table as well so I'll wait a bit to see what else I'll add to it🤣👍

Cool build Tomasz. Simple to use, functional and expandable. Looks like your Polish workshop is light and airy and seems to be a lot bigger than your single garage set-up you had in the UK.

Thanks. It's because I painted it white 🤣 but it's a lot bigger. The one in UK was 13m2 and this one is 21m2 plus I got a spare 9m2 room which eventually will become my resin room.

Impressive, I'll certainly base mine on this Tomasz. I think I'll create the cookies with a hole saw though, and make the hole in the table with a router jig - just do the trickier bit once :)

Thank you very much. Got then in my local DIY store like similar to B&Q. If you search for pipe clamps you should be able to find something similar. They got rubber bands and metal rings with a nut. So it's perfect to put a threaded rod in then or a bolt.

That's a really cool addition to a drill press. Have you considered adding a measuring tape to the front edge, and a fiducial marker so you can actually measure the lateral movement?

Nice job... Very thought out project 👍 I would have looked at putting your top table T tracks wider to accommodate the movement left and right more otherwise you are restricted to that smaller area just outside of the cookie? Also with longer pieces of timber, you can securely hold them either end closer to the edge. Looking into drilling holes for closer in and adding a table clamp instead?? Just another thought.... 👀

I usually drill smaller objects and metal parts, so this layout is more dedicated to my needs. But I'm thinking of a jig/fence that will accommodate and support longer pieces. As well as tall pieces that you need to clamp vertically. Watch this space 🤣👍

@@CasualDIY That's beyond any doubt! I've just downloaded the plans. Melamine boards I have (I used to love hunting for old kitchen cabinets for free) I have some T-tracks as well (I'll have to check if I have enough). I don't have that special four-sided T-track for the fence, but maybe I can come up with another solution for that. I'm not the most technical person so I'll have to watch the video again, to see what makes the board sliding. I didn't get that from the video. Do you know by heart what the maximum slide from left to right is in the version you made? How is it eventually possible to extend that slide?

Very clever Tomasz. The extractor hose is brilliant, much cheaper than the expensive purpose made version. A small point - why didn't you use knobs rot lock the transverse movement instead of the rather fiddly Allen key? I think there should be enough clearance at the back to do this especially if you use a long bolt on the knobs. Mike

Thank you. Because all the knobs I had were too big and through laziness I didn't do my own that would fit in there. There is only 2cm of clearance there as that's the size of the aluminium profile.

@@CasualDIY Understood. You could use longer bolts with a knob glued on so they would project further back and clear the track. Jolly good mod to the drill press which I will probably make for mine as it's clearly very useful and a big improvement.

@@katabrontes its something I needed for a very long time and finally made it. Massive improvement for my work flow. At the moment it's not annoying, when it becomes problematic then I'll look into the knob problem.
