How to Cook Simple Fish Curry?

Prep. Time: 1 hour
Serves for 2 people.
Ingredients:
whole fish 2 nos. (400 gm each fish, clean and washed)
For Marination
salt 1 tsp
turmeric powder 1 tsp
Kashmiri chili powder 1 tsp
For Frying
cooking oil 1 tbsp
For Cooking
cooking oil 2 tbsp
mustard seeds 1 tsp
cumin seeds 1 tsp
curry leaves 10 nos.
cherry chilies 5 nos.
dry red chilies 5 nos.
chopped onions 2 nos. (medium size)
ginger paste 1 tbsp
garlic paste 1 tbsp
dry coconut 1 cup
chopped tomatoes 1 no. (large)
Kashmiri chili powder 1 tbsp
turmeric powder 1 tsp
cumin powder 1 tsp
coriander powder 1 tsp
red chili powder 1 tsp
water as required
garam masala powder 1 tsp
fennel powder 1 tsp
lemon juice 1 no.
coriander chopped
coconut cream 1 cup
salt to taste
chopped coriander for garnish
Method:
Take 2 whole fish, clean and wash them under fresh water. Set the fish aside.
Apply salt, turmeric powder, and Kashmiri chili powder to the fish. Marinate the fish with salt and Kashmiri chili powder, rubbing the marinade on both sides. Keep in the refrigerator for 1 hour.
Add cooking oil to a pan, and when the oil is hot, put the whole fish in and fry for 5 minutes on one side on medium flame. Once cooked on one side, flip the fish and cook for 5 minutes on the other side. We want the fish to be cooked 50% (half), and we will cook it in the gravy. Once cooked, remove both fish and place them on a tray.
Take a pan, and in a pan add cooking oil, when the oil is hot add mustard seeds and cumin seeds, and saute them on low flame. Then add curry leaves, cherry chilies, and dry red chilies. Saute them for 2 minutes on low flame.
Now add the chopped onions and saute them for 7 minutes on medium flame.
Once the onions are light brown, add ginger and garlic paste, and saute the paste for 3 minutes on medium flame.
Now add the dry coconut and saute it for 5 minutes on medium flame. The coconut should be nicely brown.
Add chopped tomatoes, and cook the tomatoes for 7 minutes on medium flame.
Mix all the powdered spices well and saute for 3 minutes. Add water so that the spices don't burn, and mix well.
Add more than 2 cups of water and mix well with the masala. Cook the masala for 5 minutes on medium flame.
Add garam masala powder, fennel powder, lemon juice, and coriander leaves. Mix all ingredients well with the masala.
Add coconut cream, mix well, and cook for 5 minutes on low flame.
Add the half-cooked fish to the curry, and put some chopped coriander leaves. Cover and cook for 7 minutes on medium flame. After 7 minutes open the lid.
Simple Fish Curry is Ready. Serve the fish curry with steamed rice or chapati.
