In This Video I show you my process of forging a full tang knife by hand. I use 1095 high carbon steel and a coal powered forge. I am forging the steel like smiths have for thousands of years. I bring the blade from raw materials all the way to finish product. I show how to heat treat the knife. Aswell as attaching a wooden handle.
If you have any questions please comment below or send me an email zayknives@gmail.com

Did you use natural charcoal (charred wood) or coal in your forge?

Is the grizzly grinder good? I am looking to get a fucina forge 1x30 (you should look it up) the review for the fucina day that it is like a mini 2x72 and it is a grizzly g1015 killer

You remind me of me. We work the same way. You made a good looking knife there, good job! Oh btw I went to your website and I wanted to know how often do your knifes sell? I'm only asking because I want to sell knifes and other blacksmith stuff too.

Really great video. May I ask, what material did you use for the pins, and what size holes? Thanks!
@ZayKnives

Thank you! I used 1/8in steel pins for this one. Thanks for asking!

I like your work but is the giant tapered tang your trademark? Its cool I just prefer a little slimmer tang profile. Its all personal preference I dont mean this to be a rude comment just an opinion and question.

The handle shape is usually what I make on hunters. Its pretty comfortable, and I think looks nice. What is tapering that you dont like? The width of the thickness?

Just getting stuff together, how do you like that grinder?
@ZayKnives
@ZayKnives 5 лет назад
The Grizzly grinder is the best option for a 2x72 on a budget. The only other option is 1000$+ machine, so in your case I would definitely recommend that for you as a beginning knife maker. Also if you're really on a budget Harbor Fright has a 1x30 grinder for 50$.
