Enjoyed your relaxed way of talking and your line of reasoning: "I have a hole here.. That deserves a moth ball" lol. Very helpful for all levels of gardeners.
Yes it works great for flower gardens it kept stray cats out of mine they use to use mine for a litter box eww this solves the problem moth balls work good for keeping pest out it does not hurt any thing in the garden I know I did it for years it is quite safe great tips and very affect of it just works ...
Perfect timing for this to pop up in my feed today! I had heard about mothballs for lizards but not snakes, so thank you thank you cuz there are definitely snakes in my neighborhood here in GA. Looking forward to more gardening tips. 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Awesome advise, thank you. I live in Florida and just had a water moccasin up under my steps on my porch where my dogs are fenced-in at and the dogs let me know that he was there. We said bye bye to the moccasin. But I'll now go buy these and put them as needed around the house and the Border on my property line. Thank you again.
I used mothballs to keep feral cats out of my yard..I lived in Las Vegas NV…. I suntanned every day for 30 or 40 minutes .. I used baby oil iodine combination old school and cats would climb up and lay in my patio furniture so I didn’t see the hair at first ..when I would get up from sunning ..I would be covered in hair and you can only imagine how much hair was on my body from using oil… so this is the combo that works throw mothballs all around your yard on your furniture yes you smell ammonia but that dissipates… animals do not like ammonia ..squirrels rabbits snakes deer.. you name it ..dogs and cats I don’t want shitting and pissing in my yard and I don’t want to lay in their hair…
Great video. Me and my mom have been doing this for years. It does work. She lives in the country and uses them close to the house. I dont have a problem with snakes in my yard...around the house and the yard perimeter. Does the job!
We have a bumper crop of copperheads this year in North Carolina. My best friends greyhound died yesterday from a copperhead bite. I have a little miniature pinscher mix. I am on a mission to keep snakes out of my yard. I have 5 outside cats and some chickens, which helps a lot, but I'm willing to put so many moth balls in my yard that it looks like a hail storm passed by.
@@willowbeederouaux4750 trust me....my cats and dogs are so picky that I don't have to worry about them eating one. These assholes sleep on a cashmere blanket. They are spoiled beyond belief. Tenderloin isn't good enough for them...in their opinion.
follow up update, YESSSS it worked, thank you, thank you, saved my pool from these critters added entire radius of property, within minutes possums walked on the fence rather than on ground came out of hiding, cats and raccoons also stayed clear ready to reapply mb again after all this rain
Just moved with my family to Arizona. We bought a beautiful home with lots of land. Rattlers and other snakes are a big problem. I’ll try this. I also heard chlorine tablets work as well. Thanks for the mothballs tip
I just tried it because my FK neighbors don't respect. Always send their dogs to my lawn rip it out and pee patches. So now I don't care how bad it smells. I just want dogs and cats away from my lawn. It is said lavender smell, dog hate it. So I may try that as well.
I have tons of iguanas eating my vegetable garden so, I will be using these (mothballs) along with a citrus spray to keep them out. Thanks tor sparking the thought process.
Great idea but if u don't like the smell u can cut v shape holes in a milk jug around middle of jug fill jug with water replace lid use about 6 to 8 moth balls and the water makes them last a long time I place them around my deck and chicken coop it works with mice too and the best thing is I can't even smell them while sitting right next to them
I use them to keep mice and rats away. In fact I heard snake poop and owl feathers will scare them away too. I throw them around the floor of my little outside shed. Can’t hurt or leach into soils there. Where my garden is I use the plastic container with holes trick! Haven’t had a problem since.
So the "plastic container with holes trick" is to put the moth balls in a plastic container among or around the veggies and it smells but doesn't mess up the soil? I've been placing them on the brick border i put around the raised beds but maybe i should use a container to keep it more safe?
What I find interesting is that most people who talk about them being poisonous, yet no one mentions anything about the products such as, snake away, etc. which contain the same chemicals.
Everyone is claiming that it’s illegal to use mothballs outside. If it’s so illegal then why did I find them at tractor supply being marketed for outdoor use not to long ago? They had a little box to hold them and everything 😂
I put them in empty yogurt containers and place them in and under the chicken coop. Take a knife and poke a lot of holes in sides and the lid. The moth balls last longer and the chickens cant peck them.
I recently had issues with my telephone line. The guy had to crawl under the house. It's a double wide with black plastic as a water barrier. The guy said that he hated to tell me that there was snake skins under the house. If I threw boxes of moth balls under will it force the snake out if they are under the plastic? Worse yet up under the insulation? Should I try throwing tons of moth balls under there and then place moth balls around the perimeter like a week later? It's cold where I live in the mountains of Western Maryland. Thank you for your advice.
www.petpoisonhelpline.com/ Their list of poisons, includes moth balls: "Poisonous to: Cats, Dogs & many other sentient creatures, including curious kids. Relatively few snakes are poisonous ... especially those that end up in established yards. On the other hand, those that do ... black snakes, indigo snakes (which are endangered and protected), garden snakes, corn snakes, etc. are not only completely harmless but will try to remain out of your way, even your sight yet ensure that your yard and home are free of rats and mice ... Level of toxicity: Generally moderate to severe, life-threatening
issis666 If you have an indoor dog, & keep him/her on a leash when you have them outside, or keep a close eye on them, then this shouldn’t be a problem. Of course, you don’t want your beloved fur baby eating one. If you put them in your house, just put them in places your pets can’t get to. It’s just like w/ pesticides. You put the poison in places your pets can’t get to. The info you have given is good for people to know.
I’ve heard of this snake remedy before. I’ve tried it and not really sure how well it worked only because I was not noticing many snakes either way. The other thing I’ve done is peeing near areas where snakes might travel or hide out. Yes, I’ve done this, but usually at dark and first making sure that no one was around. A Kentucky friend of mine told me of that remedy years ago. There are plenty of trees on my 1.3 acres of land. I’m in the yard most often, so when the urge hits me, I take advantage of it. I’ve also heard that hedge apples work well. Not sure on any of it though. Thoughts? Have a great day and a Happy New Year! The Porter Dude of Ohio. 🤩
You are very smart! Many people don't know how to look for active ingredients and then buy that and not a formula! A formula at times appears to give you more when the inactive ingredients don't do any thing! When I worked at a health food store vitamin formulas were like that!
Great tip! I have a black snake that thinks it owns the place. I appreciate that it gets the rodents that I really need to keep in check but I don't want any more snakes coming around so I will use this tip to keep things under control. Thanks!
Would these work against an irresponsible neighbor's dogs, who let them off the leash and come to pee and poop on my yard on daily basis and ruin my plants and are getting my mail box rusty?
its me againsta raccoons and stray cats,I will never torture or kill an animal, but darn it, theyve attacked my blow pool 2 times, hope this helps. if they go away, your the bomb(awesome) ill keep you posted, leaving half a day from work just to get these moth balls, determined
just saw a snake under a bumpout on my mom's house sitting there watching me walk around the yard in sandals. Gonna do this tonight. fingers crossed it works. Thanks for the tip!
I had a bunch of flying insects frequenting my deck I hung a mesh bag of moth balls up and problems solved! I read online that wasps tend to think its a rival nest and they stay away!
My neighbor is stating, it’s illegal to use mothballs in my flower bed and they will kill my flowers bushes. Not sure if she is just saying this because of her cats. I know for a fact the mothballs work to Deter any unwanted Critters in your flower bed.
There will always a "loss" in anything you do, including Gardening. One important thing to remember... Would "poisoning" your surrounding and Water make up for the loss you take?
I use them for my moth problem. I want to note that these things are extremely toxic to aquatic life and cause long lasting damage. Says so on the packet. Sure, you gotta keep the snakes away but its something to be aware of. Mothballs sublimate. I wonder if the snake products actually last longer maybe if they are designed for damp wet environments?
I'm going to buy a truckload of mothballs. I hate snakes with a passion. We just cleared some brush, and I think we disturbed their good life. Good Riddance, and thanks for the tip!!!
I hope it work I put some in garage and left the garage door open hoping it slitters out, so far it has been 4 days but this time I will keep the garage open for 3 hours and could give it time
I’m in NC and I have moles or something tearing my back yard UP! My MaltiPoo does her business in that fenced in area and we pay 100 plus every month to have her groomed. This morning my 7lb MaltiPoo was a CALICO! Just had her groomed 2 days ago and she was filthy! I was livid! Of course I’ll never spank her but it took forever to find her under all that dirt and mud 😭! I put mothballs in their burrows praying that they’ll go away to the main road and play in traffic 😂! I’ll check back in to let you know if this worked. It does for snakes so hoping it does for them! Wish my cats didn’t run away!
I hv issues not snakes but cats .My compound is heavily infested with stray cats making poo in my compound.I dont hv the money to make fence just yet as im in my retired age and dont hv an income to build a fence so i can only think of an ecomomic way and that it helps me.Pls suggest to me any way i can keep this stray cats away
Brilliant idea, do you know if mothballs will work to keep out rabbits and squirrels from my garden? Or do you have any other suggestions. Thanks in advance.
My niece lives in a small house on the outside of Manila, Philippines. Last night snake got in their bathroom. I will let her know to try mothballs. I will let you know later how it works. Thanks.
Use gloves when touching them moth balls, moth balls have chemicals in it read the package your not to inhale it , or touch it on your skin .And be safe!
@Pamela Goforth, Diatomaceous Earth, is worse if inhaled. But yeah we get your point. Didn't they have some kind of mothball thing hanging on a little hanger, that you could put in the closet. Seems like I saw that back in the day..
I REMEBER ALL OF MY GREAT GRANDPARENTS HOMES SMELLED LIKE MOTH BALLS I ALWAYS ASSOCIATED MOTH BALLS WITH OLD PEOPLE. I WONDER IF THEY SMELL THE SAME MAYBE ILL GET SOME FOR NOSTALGIA SAKE.
Hiya, Got any suggestions to get rid of chipmunks? I have a bunch that live under my front and back deck and throughout my yard. They must go. I live in East Tawas, Michigan and between the chipmunks, ticks I now have, snakes and other stuff I'm about to freak out.
This creeps me out but I want to go buy these today so I need an answer. If I just put these around the outside of my doors and house will that keep them out of the house or do I need to put those stinky things inside of my house? Also, I have a storage building that has clothes in it that I wear and don't want them getting all stinky so can I just put the moth balls around the building instead or will it be better to put them inside? Thank you in advance
I've got a black snake in my home. I think he went after the mice. I fed the mice borax mixed in pennut butter, but the snake came in the next day...I hear the black snake won't harm me, but just the same I don't want any of these cteatures in my home....so thanks for the cheap tip on how to keep these snakes way....mice don't like mothball too...!
Thank you for this video but I have a question and I need an answer please. How about when it rain or snowing do they still work or I have to add new ones after rain is gone? Thank you.
Vero, in all the years that I’ve done this, I’ve found that after “steady” rain the moth balls will dissolve away into the ground but the effects still linger. During the spring however, when rain is more frequent, I’ve put more out around 45 days. I can’t speak to the snow aspect, as I live in the Deep South but I would think the same rules apply.
I was always told using mothballs keep Critters away so I used some mothballs and my neighbor complain came and knocked on my door talking about she called Poison Control and she's expecting me not to use it and I have snakes she's talking about is bothering her throat and she can't do the moth balls so I don't know exactly what I'm going to do but she just left my house maybe I won't put out as many thank you for the information
Healthy Living With Wendy. I wonder, why is it OK to keep mothballs in your house, your sock drawer, your closet but the moment you put it outside the environmental Wackos lose their minds. They duality is troubling.
We don’t all live in your house, but we all share the environment. When you put poison into the environment, it often travels out of your yard. You might think your little bit of poison is inconsequential, but look at all these people in the comments abt to run out and put poison in their gardens too.
@@willowbeederouaux4750 What about all the round up sprayed in yards, the farmers that spray our veggies with chemicals. Good grief. Pick your battles.
@@goodmeasure777 your Whataboutism is silly. Of course I'm concerned abt Roundup and other pesticides. PESTICIDES AND MOTHBALLS ARE BOTH MADE BY CHEMICAL COMPANIES. Same thing, dude. Both harmful to the environment.
