Mr Wells, I am beyond grateful and working my way slowly through the the tears that your songwriting has evoked. I saw a clip of an interview that Bob Dylan gave with a major news person in the last few days. The interviewer asked him something to the effect of "how could he write the songs that he wrote" and "do you still write those kinds of songs". Bob replied to the interviewer that he didn't write songs anymore. I believe he seemed to say that he didn't understand how he managed to write them in the first place. He did say something like "they just happened". I believe the interview was within the last 10 years or so. I believe I was given some small degree of musical talent. I'm not yet made it mean much to anyone but myself. No songwriting, no complete song length lyrics. I do hope that you are blessed with a long life that's remains creative. I'm also sure you get tired of hearing people say how talented you are. I really really appreciate your sound and your writing. I'm 66 now. May you live as long or longer and find the occasional inspiration to compose. Thank you.
I never comment. This was worth one. Thank you Jesse. Something in this one hits crystal clear. All your writing has always hit me but this one is something else. From one songwriter to another, thank you for this gift.
Something I truly appreciate about Jesse's music that I do not see enough people discussing is how uniting it is. I've seen lots of comparisons to significant folk musicians, but very little explicit recognition of the political effects of his music. People from disparate political affiliations are getting into arguments with each other in the comments about "whose side he's on" while completely overlooking the implications of the fact that his message appeals to all of them. Maybe we have more in common with each other than the powers that be want us to recognize? Just some food for thought.
I was waiting for it, the part that really blows my mind. It’s came subtly, but that finger picking in between verse and bridge was beautiful! Always a pleasure when Wells shows up on my feed 🔥
I really do hope youre reading these comments and knowing the truly positive impact you have on peoples lives, you are so well able to instill a great sense of hope through your music jesse, thank you
@@whenifeellowbeen listening since war is murder. He’s definitely a character. Wishing nothing but the best for this kid. Also, I think he does read the comments :)
@@Dmurphy876 Don't you think if he took the time to read y'all's comments he would give a thumbs up or a heart or something. I mean, if he has the messages in front of him, the Like and Love buttons are right there with the message, you know. Unfortunately, i really don't think he cares. Like, there has to be 10s of 1000s of messages y'all have posted, but there's never been a reply--never. Grace Bowers and The Hodge Podge just went international a few weeks ago and she is able to find time to reply to fans on RU-vid. Hell, she was just invited to perform on Jimmy Kimmel, you know. But, she continues to value interacting with fans
And lonely* (also when I assume that this is his gently succeding way of style) if u get what mean. And yea, a poet is a soul/solist But Man, i think it would be also cool if he had a cool-matching band in the background. They could make the best 60s/70s recover. Espeacially he with his haircut as lead singer 😂 But maybe it just a thing that i personally want…
i'm not a very creative person, but listening to your songs makes me experience things i never have before, imagine things i could've never dreamed. like a whole new world is being opened up to me, thank you.
The songs you write, what you say is truly a special thing. There's always comments comparing you to Bob Dylan or whoever else, but you are you. There's no other bob Dylan, and there will most certainly never be another jesse Welles. I've said it before, but it bears repeating. You are a diamond in the rough.
The big stalks on the left look like pokeweed. If so that other guy is right, you can rip it up or cut it down but it's always gonna come back unless you poison the soil.
It amazes me how many great songs Jesse Welles has inside him. He’s not the first person to amaze me but to kind of watch some of his process and progress! We know he’s been around for awhile, hope he stays🐓.
"How I envy all them stones, how they never say a word" Jesse you create some of the best lyrics i have ever come across and I'm almost 40years into this lifetime. I love you and your generosity of amazing songs and messages from the bottom of my heart. You are the definition of Amazing. Much Love my friend
I love songs filled with references, whether they're nods to historical music or cultural references, but especially when they're used perhaps a little tongue-in-cheek in service of something that feels bigger.
And when we've been here ten hundred years and can't agree what it's all for, think I'll string up my guitar again, I will not worry anymore. You always were a poet, Jesse. Simple Gifts is a great tune, brother.
One of the few that doesn't care about money or fame. This music is written because we are his people and he wants everyone to wake up before more is lost. Thank you Jesse Welles. Keep going sir. We're here.
Simple Gifts is a song very close to my heart, When True Simplicity is gained…I love what you did with your version of Simple Gifts, you are not a simple person, you are greatly gifted and sharing your Dylan-like ability with words, like George Harrison said about Bob Dylan “He can turn an impeccable phrase”, so can you, Jesse❤
you do my shadow work for me, my breath stutters and hesitates in careful balance and fear that i might cry out uncontrolled... thank you for expressing so much
Thank you Jesse, I'm struggling with my own self since a long time, depression, addictions, hurting people i love more than anything else, but your songs soothe my pain and make me feel more capable. More capable of changing things about myself,my life and my environment altogether. You are a great artist, a great writer, player and singer, and your talent and work do have à effect on people. You can really love yourself and you deserve the recognition you're getting, especially after all you shared within your songs and your covers. All the love from a french admirator 😊
Jesse, it is such a joy to hear the sounds of the summer in the background of your songs. I'm an Arkansas child that's grown old. I was born in the swamps of Pine Bluff. I spent summers in the Ouachitas. Then I lived in the ozarks for 8 years. It's such a beautiful state. It's a pity the land cursed by blood my Indigenous ancestors. We are in need of some strong medicine in Arkansas. Keep writing those real songs, OK? Peace and love in the natural state!☮️💜🌎
I can’t stop listening to this song. It’s been days I’ve had it on repeat. It reminds me of Manichaeism if you’ve ever heard of that ancient religion that’s been lost to time.
@@FaebyBoy I only heard about the religion because I’m a nerd lol but it’s worth looking into! It’s very interesting! I would suggest the RU-vid channel religion for breakfast
This one reminds me of the way I used to think and write. And makes me consider pullin' the ole stringed box out of the case and putting sonic tidbits in a particular order again.
Do it! It was what you were created to do! Nothing will fulfill you more than creating. I didn’t create art for 20 years and when I did again, it fed my soul! Thankyou Jesse for being an inspiration to us.
I believe he had a band and was out on the road. I think he got burnt out. Tore up. And, too much. Might have destroyed his vocal cords. I'm just saying, I think he's comfortable where he is. I just keep hoping, he keeps doing what he's doing. I can understand your wish, if you can play. I don't think he's ready.
Thank you so very much for sharing your talent with us. You are amazing. I love your style, voice and flying fingers on the guitar as well as the harmonica. You have such a great talent
Why should anyone be preoccupied with whether he reads these comments or not- maybe he has a good reason for not reading them. Maybe he doesn't. I humbly suggest that it is a gesture of pure egoism to give one bloody fig. Meanwhile he is the only person I subscribe to here whose latest musical offerings I listen to right away. He is wonderfully prolific! ❤
Honestly I still shared how I liked his art and how it affects me, I won't lie and say that i hope he sees that, but more because I want him to know how much he brings to people
What a beautiful sci fi folk song. I could envision a spacefarer strumming a 6 string singing this tune while gazing out at the stars or someone up in the ISS looking down upon this big blue marble.
So happy I discovered Jesse Welles. Just when you think you've discovered all the great songwriters another comes along. It's like the spirit of John Prine transferred into Jesse Welles ha ha. Keep em coming Jesse.
NC camp we used to sing that - When true simplicity is gained to bow and to bend we will not be ashamed to turn and to turn will be our delight because by turning and turning we come round right 35 years later i never forgot that one
Holy shit! Please put every song of yours on Spotify. How the hell do you make such amazing music consistently? I'm becoming a bigger fan with every upload.
I just discovered a brilliant song writer today and now i can't get enough. Thank god or whoever theres still good music out there. Music that makes you think snd laugh and sometimes cry.
The sound in this one is like if Pinegrove went more folk. I really dig it dude. You are giving a voice to those who have feelings and perceptions but not the words to speak. You inspire those who have the words but lack the courage. Thank you, Jesse, you remind me to never stop writing, even if no one will ever read it.
