Turtle Ships

Yi Sun-sin did not win 23 out of 23 battles, there is no record of the construction of the turtle ship, and there is no record of fighting the Japanese navy. Many of the stories about Yi Sun-sin are fabricated by Koreans. In the Battle of Hansan Island, Yi Sun-sin did not know about the Crane wing formation, and Wakisaka did not have any special strategy. The currents around Hansan Island were strong, so Yi Sun-sin knew and brought his ships close to the shore. Seeing the shape, Koreans in later years fabricated it as the Crane wing formation. Wakisaka did not know how strong the currents were, so he advanced in the center and was swept away, and was hit by flaming arrows from the Korean army. In any case, this battle was not a big one. Yi Sun-sin exaggerated the losses, but even at the most, the losses on Wakisaka's side were estimated at 300 people. Wakisaka's army originally had only 1,500 people. And a few months later, Wakisaka mobilized 900 people for the land battle. Of course, some soldiers were left behind to maintain the ships. If you read the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty and Yi Sun-sin's diary, you will find that Yi Sun-sin did not win a single battle in the seven years after the Battle of Hansan Island. In the Battle of Myeongnyang, Yi Sun-sin fled 200km north over the course of five days and hid on a small island, in the Battle of Suncheon he was repelled without being able to do anything, and in the Battle of Noryang he was shot to death by the Japanese navy.

Thank you for watching. But You're distorting history. If you're only looking at it from a strictly Japanese perspective, there's nothing more I can say. It seems like you'd have to study a lot of history to downplay Yi Sun-sin's achievements. I don’t enjoy unproductive debates, so I’m done commenting.

@@Simple_Knowledge_bluewave It is you Koreans who are fabricating history. Read the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty or Yi Sun-sin's diary. It is clear that Yi Sun-sin lost the Battle of Myeongnyang, the Battle of Suncheon, and the Battle of Noryang. Only Koreans in the would consider the Battle of Myeongnyang, in which Yi Sun-sin fled 200km, to be a victory for Yi Sun-sin. Only Koreans in the would consider the Battle of Suncheon, in which the entire Ming-Korean allied forces were completely defeated, to be a victory for Yi Sun-sin. Only Koreans in the would consider the Battle of Noryang, in which Yi Sun-sin himself was killed early in the battle, to be a victory for Yi Sun-sin. And there is no record of the Turtle Ship being built, nor of fighting against the Japanese navy. The whole story of the Turtle Ship was fabricated by Koreans more than 100 years after the war. There are also fictional story written by Japanese who read them, but of course they are not true. Japanese people can enjoy Godzilla movies knowing that the monster doesn't exist, but Koreans seem unable to distinguish between fiction and reality.
