I first started watching your guy’s videos a little before the pandemic during my last year of highschool because I wanted to go to cosmetology school, and I just graduated last month. I started working at a salon and I keep coming back to your videos when someone requests a cut I haven’t done. You guys never miss! I feel like I learned more from this channel than beauty school, but Ofcourse, they teach the basics like ergonomics, sanitation, basic layering and such. To support you guys I will invest my money into your products as I still use the basic tools my school had us purchase. Again, thank you!!

My girlfriend complained about her last haircut and told me she wanted this style. I watched your video three times, bought the tools I needed and then cut her hair following along to your instructions. When I was done and she got to see the result? I've never seen such a big smile on her face!!! 8D Bless you for your tutorial man!

This haircut is what i always try to explain to my stylist how or what i want. It works beautifully for my curly hair. Balance when its straight and balance when its curly giving the crown a bit of volume, but not take away too much on the sides making the ends look stringy. Gorgeous!

totally agree with u , the level of instruction in the schools and knowledge of these instructors is poor, after 12 months of instruction students only knowledge is how to pass th state board, that's it! we must make changes to these schools, i m licensed 38 years and still learning, i m 68 yrs old and just returned to cutting hair, these videos are excellent...

@@karenm5723 Grateful I spent $$ on a Sassoon school, and learned the architecture of hair design. I still practice on mannequins to try any new approaches. Most schools only teach a basic version of the 90 degree state board cut. We had to use live models for State Board, back then, and they just wanted yo see "a layered cut." They don't really care how it looks. I blew the mibd o ff the examiner when I dud a condensed triangulate layered cut. She said "I saw your cross check. So cute." Didn't even cross check mine. It's so important to get continued, professional education. I had to learn to loosen up mind mindset from the classic training to learn razor cutting, and accept disconnection. LOL. Practice is essential. I did a lot if models before I ever made a dime.

I have been looking for someone to do a great cut on my hair with “face framing” and nobody does anything even remotely close to this. In all fairness .. my latest stylist is better than the rest but this is greatly needed for lots of stylists out there. It’s the front sectioning that most fall short on it seems. And the layers not being lightened up by hitting the ends instead of where the weight is... in the middle and lightly down the hair. You’re an artist... a beautiful cut. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

This is exactly how I get my hair cut & have done for years. My hairdresser does this cut perfectly having trained at Vidal Sassoon & it works so well with my thick long hair. My hairdresser had an arm injury a couple of years ago & was unable to cut hair for a year & I reluctantly went to another hairdresser to describe what I wanted & how to cut my hair. I said I wanted a long layered cut with over directed disconnected layers.......her reply was “I don’t use those silly words to describe hair cuts, I just cut it & see how it falls!!! 😳😳 needless to say I walked out without letting her touch my hair!!! If I ever need to visit another hairdresser than my own I will be showing them this video as it is perfect & so well explained. Thank you for your tutorials & knowledge 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

beautiful cut and style. and a wonderful tutorial in all aspects. note to stylists: i use a stylist's ability to listen to my request for a mid-part haircut as a litmus test. as someone that enjoys, and sometimes requires a movable style, having an unbalanced cut after telling you to disregard how i mostly part my hair on the left, but sometimes do in the middle or on the right will make me never come back. regardless of how much i loved every other aspect of your services. i've found it doesn't matter how i approach it. generally i would rather avoid escalating the interaction past requesting for a balanced, symmetrical, middle-weighted cut. still, sometimes i end up with side-weighted cut and/or color. if seeking, my part can be found on the left side (although, a few have found it on the right???) and i can tell they look for it and put it in the back of their mind. sometimes i don't think they do it intentionally. are prioritizing side-weighted services over the client's request something drilled in beauty school? if so, it'd be great if they didn't anymore.

Very helpful! As a hairstylist for ahh, let's see( thinking back, got NY/NJ license in '76🤔🥺😳🤨)so like 50+ years , you always can learn something! The crown cutting is sooo important, and most of us learn it through trial & error which isn't good for the client so this is a very important tool to use! Knowing it when you get your license and as a rookie stylist, it's going to be a great way to start a client following and build your career as a top stylist! And, always aim for that in wherever your talent may be; as a cutting specialist (which I love) or colorist etc., always aim to be at the top of your game by continuously learning! Seek it out and build your knowledge with your on-going experience. Very satisfying as an artist! I wish Redkin was easier to get into back in the 70's, for us early geometric cutting pioneers. It would have made it go faster with less mistakes committed on our Guinea pig clients, am I right? Sorry bout that all who suffered in order to push hair cutting into stylist levels in Cosmetology as a whole. Then we had the advent of way better hair products for which Redkin made a huge early mark in the industry, as a whole new way of looking at styling. It has been a "long strange trip", but a blast!

This made perfect sense in every way. When I went through beauty college, which was way back in the '80s, we were taught to do blunt cuts and start at the top and work our way to the ends. If you weren't talented, it was inevitable that you were going to cut into the line. When I got out of school and secured a job at a reputable salon, we were retrained to cut the way you just showed, which is from the bottom to the top. Point cutting came in later and really made it easier to get flow. I truly enjoyed watching you work! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and talent!

@Leighster This helped me find someone really good after my stylist of 15 years became seriously ill and I had to find someone else: I went to a quality salon and looked for a stylist whose hair was thick, curly and long like mine. Then I looked to see if I liked the way hers was cut and styled. I watched her as she cut a client. After she finished, I asked her if she cut her own hair and she does. My curls are not as tight as hers, but my hair is thick and has both curls and waves. I was in the beginning process of growing it out to be long and wanted face framing layers and I showed her a picture. We talked a little, I made an appointment & 1 1/2 years later I have very long, curly, face framing layered hair that I enjoy so much. And I will be her client forever I hope. First seeing she had long, curly, thick hair pretty similar to mine, and it was cut like I liked, I believed she would probably know how to cut mine. Then watching her cut a client and knowing she cut her own hair, I knew she was talented. Cutting hair is a gift of talent, it’s an art. Like the person above said, this is an important part of choosing someone too. Good luck.

That's really upsetting to hear, as a professional, because I do a version of this cut, almost every day. This is a very basic, and understandable way to achieve the look, and to save time in the salon. I am not sure why people can't get the look they want. Remember, the blowdry adds polish. It doesn't look as awesome without some styling and products. I get a lot of guests who say they want that hair, but never actually style it.

Thk U so much for making this video. Aft trying a couple of times, now I'm so much more confident when cutting my own hair than before. And the results were all so satisfying. 👍

The thinning shears made all the difference. Finally a cut that lacks the top being too short and heavy. Beautiful.
