Chipping occurs when the paint flakes away and leaves a previous paint layer, or bare metal visible. In this video I demonstrate how to achieve fairly realistic results using a very simple technique - suitable for beginners!
🖌️ What projects are you going to replicate this simple paint chipping method on? Let me know in the comments!

Demystified, thank you. I was beginning to lose it with talk of chipping fluids, salt, hairspray etc!

Those are different methods, which can result in more realistic effects, but not necessarily so simple to do

Fantastic chipping technique and something I will use on my models (I used to use a sponge and various types of brushes), to improve visual appeal. On a side note, the FW190d had wooden props so wouldn’t have a silver chipping effect…but they would have a brown chipping effect as the wood started to show through over time.
@ModelMinutes
@ModelMinutes 7 месяцев назад
ah, I didn't know that about the wooden props! I guess that was an attempt to save on metal resources?
@andygorman858

@@ModelMinutes I remember being berated by ‘more knowledgeable’ types about it and put me off for a while. Yeah, not sure about the wooden prop idea, it was supposedly faster as well than aircraft fitted with the all metal props. Still a great vid and enjoyed seeing all you created this year! Can’t wait to see what you start with next year. Have a great Christmas and New Year!!

I've been trying a sharp pencil, both an ordinary 2H pencil and the artist's colour type. You can get some interesting effects, even subtle panel lining.

What i like about this sort of thing is no two aircraft chip the same so there is no right or wrong way to do it....its entirley up to the modeller how they want it to look.
