🥇 Get Your FREE 3D Mastery Training ➜ bit.ly/3armubo Today we will dive into the simplest thing you can do to get to $5k per month as a 3D artist if you're not there already. Enjoy!
@@TheWartechgaming From what I've seen, after taxes is around $2 - $3K if you're in a good studio. But it depends a lot where you live, what type of work you do, etc. Most jobs I find offer around $40-$50K a year, and that's before taxes.
@@AmbientShades I live in Croatia and here, monthly paycheck is like 1000 usd But the industry here is much less developed so I guess I understand. But my goal one day is to get a remote job in a US studio if such a thing is possible anyway.
Game-changing mindset for me: _"You don't need to know everything, you just need to know more than your client does."_ That is, you don't need to be a "master" at something to be of value. People **will** accept your offers for no greater reason than because they don't know how to model (or whatever) themselves. That's the service you provide, and there is a lot of money to be made through it. Put another way: At the end of the day, your mechanic doesn't need to be the "best in the world" if he can fix your car regardless.
This video has really opened my eyes, I feel like you were speaking my life inba few minutes. I have been procrastinating far too long! Like you mentioned I don't have to be the best as long as I can provide good customer service and quality work. Thank you for this video, I feel really encourged and its the words that I had to hear!
I can land jobs that are 5k, problem is the projects always end up going over the scheduled time and I’m afraid to take on more work due to the complexity of the project. I’ve been in situations where I’ve got a project that’s started and I’m doing ‘can you just’ amends on 2 others, and obviously 3D can be days of rendering it’s not quick change > export like say a graphic designer. 1 amend can affect several scenes meaning days/weeks of rendering. It’s never something wrong it’s usually a case of too many cooks on the client side as I always do storyboard/animatics. Usually ends up with me having to pull nightshifts just to please everyone!
That's just a lack of boundaries between you and client which usually comes out of fear of losing them and lack of communication. Unfortunately you won't get out of that position unless you can learn to manage the clients expectations from you.
All that time you spend working over is time that could be better spent on yourself or with better clients. I get that it's scary saying no. Instead ask for a deposit and lay down the terms and conditions at the start. When it goes out of scope you tell them as in your terms. They can either pay for the change, or stop the project. If this keeps happening they will might get better at sticking to their briefs or they will go somewhere else.
Yes @Old Yellow Brick, some clients are quite careless when preparing a job for a designer. Sometimes they are not certain what colors would suite their design or the shape they require. Some 3D artists learn the 3D skill to only provide 2D to 3D conversion services and others also learn courses like industrial design, interior design or animation. Like in Industrial design there's history of art (which gives knowledge of fashion & style through the ages) & the technology subject gives you the knowledge of manufacturing processes used to manufacture said product. So just like an interior designer would know better how to figure the best style/design for an interior, most 3D designers lack that skill which is a continuous learning curve as design style changes over time. Most of the time the client doesn't really know the best design outcome unless they already hired an architect or are in possession of a professionally completed 2D version of assets. So it helps a great deal to learn styles, design processes, technology and things like materials in that industry. With most clients you're not making your 3D designs for playing around, most will be manufacture or printed for profit, so the knowledge can be very important. That said some 3D models are only required by clients as means for advertising their products and/or services, so a lot of technical 3D design data on that render doesn't need to be included. No one will tell you this, you need to only or mainly focus on what is required for your client to acquire what they need from you that makes him successful in selling his products and keeping his/her clients happy.
Great video. I was wondering, what kind of 3D services can be provided on a monthly basis to local studios? Most of what I've experienced were fixed-priced commissions to adjust what they already have produced or perhaps materials for a new product, but then it will end there.
Hello Thank you for all your amazing videos, I have a question please If you can help me. There is any plugin in after effect I can use it to make slow motion for my 3ds max animation without having glitches problems ? If no please let me know if you have any solution thank you a lot
QUESTION: I posted on both artstation and imgur ... my journey of learning blender, and posted the renders. I was thinking I could show how I was improving. my professional friend told me to delete that "trash" and that artstation should only have renders of things i spent months on one render making. so now I have nothing on artstation. but listening to you, I think i should not have listened to him.
Your friend gave misguided advice. You should absolutely share your early work! It will show your journey to where you are today and make you more believable and prove you have been working at it for a long time. Plus it gives you practice and allows you to get feedback for improvement. Good luck!
@@adamkellymusic Disagree...Clients want to know you are capable to supply excellent work....they don't want to be aware that you have made sub standard work in the past.
hello if google earth publishes my 3d model of a famous monument in my city , will i get paid for this ? because for using reality capture you have pay
you say "you just need to find people who are willing to pay you X" - this is what im struggling with right now. where should i look? is there a right way to look? how do i approach them once I've found them? sometimes i think im sounding TOO sure, other times i feel like im not sure enough. I dont doubt my skill or ability as I know if theres something i cant do, ill learn how to do it. but i still cant seem to find the best way of actually reaching out. Im posting on socials, linkedin, behance, but still nothing. thanks for the vid btw
I didn't get the opportunity to finish my mentorship training with Arthur but for the little time I was there, I learnt a lot about marketing and I still practice them. They've been really helpful and I look forward to coming back soon.
so useful, thank you Arthur, how do you do the reachout?! would you aim for certain job titles ? producers, directors .. etc and how would you throw out your offer? would it be something like, hey i can make this service for 2500usd monthly? wouldn't this just close up the chance of gaining more if the client maybe can offer more? would love to know more about this topic and thank you so much for this eyeopening video. keep rocking
You talk about reaching out and I think you are very on point but who do you reach out? How do you find that niche of people that are willing to pay more? That's the most important problem I see with this, you have to have a filter on where to find those guys
Last year I was making ~4k/month but since December I had no jobs 💀💀 I'm 18 but I feel bad not working, and often I feel like I don't even know how to do my job, it's getting quite depressing lmao
Hang in there. I'm 34 and the University I worked for closed last year, it's been 8 months for me no job. I just started learning blender last year to add to my editing and graphic design skill set. Hopefully we both get something good soon
you overestimate Switzerland. 5k doesn't get you far in CH anyway . i guess its because of the expensive watches , Ricola etc.. that people have this idea that its rosy real corporate life in CH is greatly different and CH is uniquely annoying culturally. and the whole 3d culture is mostly on the german speak side as they align with germany technlogically. For all of you that speak english thinking you'll be "fine" in CH you won't.Please take time to learn German, French or Italian. people's day to day thinking is not in english. You could be ghosted because people don't feel like engaging in english or miss out on a large bag . The languages thing is super super serious.
i have one important question...Should i work on a 9 to 5 studio or agency before start my own career as a freelancer? or i can start freelancing without any experience on 9 to 5 jobs???
Depends on your goals tbh. Some people love the studio environment and I had fun experiencing it. If you're more entrepreneurial you'd go with freelancing. Pros and cons to both depending on your personality and goals.
Well yeah the thng is.. Who do I contact for this ? Cant contact studios, they have people working on it why would they need a freelancer ? And cant ask the game designer or whoever is paying the studio cause.. Well he's just gonna hire a studio x) So who is it ? Random people needing 3d for their random projetcts ? How do I find random people doing random stuff ? I mean it's a very easy video for you to make I'm sure but it lacks a lot of clarity. Basically just ask people.. But it's not everyone who needs 3d enough to pay 5k for it..
As a person who did 3d for 10 years, guys don't , the architects soon will have ais painting houses and interiors for them , gamedev sucks and at your full time jobs, your managers will constantly be getting emails to ousource your work for 1/5 of what they pay you, in addition to that asian countries keep mass producing penny cheap 3d freelancers
I've been looking into 3D because I've been inspired by Social Virtual Reality. Do you think AI will sweep through VR very quickly as well? I had an idea of putting out 3D Assets for starters and continuing to learn, but maybe I need a reality check and should abandon the idea?
I can tell. 5K per month is largely reachable. 2 big clients that needs a lot of content + some side missions. 5k is not so much as an independant with taxes etc :/ thing is, you have to put your objectives beyond 5k.
Are u High ??????? 5K a month is a lot for me even 5K a year is a lot.. but let me try your move and see. i swear if it works i will make a video on you... am going to give it a whole year...
Interesting that i'm from Brazil, 5000 would be a very big income. Thinking of going more hard. I have a famous codename in the internet as a texture artist, and i never charged for the texture, thinking people would donate.
If I would make $5000 per month , I will become the richest person in my town in 1 year bcz my current cost love living including rent is less than $150 😂😂😂😂
5k a month not that much? which planet you came from? thats like 1:100000 artists who get to have this "lead art" position in a AAA studio like rockstar or bethesda, someone entire world knows. Wake up. Check germany, environment artist, entry 2k, max, 3.5k gross. Anything beyond that is luxury and requires a huge amount of connections and basically sucking up everywhere to everyone regardless of your skill.
I'm glad someone says it. This method is a waste of time if you don't have great skills and experience in 3D. You really don't just reach out and get someone to pay you 1k a month 5 times. Not to mention, you need Time to work on projects. You can't just take on 5 large projects a month like crazy.
