The buttercream is actually a pale cream colour made using double the amount of icing sugar to butter. You can make a white icing by substituting white fat for the butter and adding a dash of vanilla or almond essence for flavour. Hope this helps. Carol
@liddieg7 Yes I used a pink food colour paste which is thicker than the liquid food colours. These are available from any cake decorating equipment shop (look up your nearest in the phone book or on-line) They are also available from many cake decorating shops that offer an online service - google food colour pastes and you'll be spoilt for choice! I also noticed last week that Hobbycraft stock food colour pastes in their Cake decorating section.
This is exactly what I was looking for - how to make a rose out of fondant, without having to buy cutters or others equipment. So simple yet beautiful. Thank you very much! I'll check out your books as well :)
@liddieg7 "Fabulous Party Cakes and Cupcakes" was written with all levels of cake decorators in mind including beginners. In the book I take you through all the different processes and offer suggestions as to how you can sometimes simplify or personalise the designs. If you get stuck then as you have already done - you can easily contact me for help. Have a go and feel free to send me pictures of your cakes - it might be nice to put together a readers gallery or something sometime.
