I'm so glad you posted this. I've only tried to make it once and it failed miserably. I've been wanting to try it again so this time I'll try your method and see if I fare better. 😂

I am also in Texas, South Texas along the coast. I check mine at about 2 weeks. Sometimes it’s ready, but sometimes I let it go a few days longer. Welcome to Texas!

Years ago, my cousin and I started to make sauerkraut in a 5 gallon bucket. After it fermented, we froze it. I now make it and just put it a jar. I have a jar fermenting right now. I also have a couple of jars of carrots and red onions. Years ago, I had a farming accident, which led me to the ER. With the antibiotics they put me on, it knocked all that good bateria. I ended up on probiotics. That is when i started learning about fermenting and getting off the probiotics.

I have memories of my grandma fermenting homegrown cabbage in a humongous ceramic crack on the back porch. After a week or so it started smelling like a dead rat!! But oh my goodness it was so delicious in the winter after she canned it after fermentation!!

My fermenting jars use a spring to hold the contents down, Plus the lid has a release valve for the gases, Works great. But the past I used marbles in a small zip lock bag.

I can't wait to learn how you make cambousha. I have recently learned it's extremely good for you gut health and was wondering how to make it myself so I don't have to pay grocery store prices. 😊😊😊😊😊😊

I have a head of cabbage we were gifted and have been learning about saurkraut. You make it seem so much less intimidating! Do you do yogurt too, by chance!? 😅😉 I am so glad I saw you on Jess' channel. And she is right - you have so much great knowledge and wisdom, thank you for sharing with us!

Yes, that little one is a pint. I just started fermenting last year. Sauerkraut was my first. Then apple cider vinegar.

I found your channel from Jess and am enjoying your content. Welcome to Texas! I live north of houston. I make saurkraut and it takes about 3 weeks. I started some last week a regular jar and one with jalapenos.

It took my sauerkraut about 10 days to be where I wanted it. I also like to just grab a jar and eat it. If you loosen you lid about a half to 3/4 turn you don't have to burp your jars.

I made sauerkraut back when the kids were little about 1979 before you were even born. It got to smelling really sour but was absolutely delicious. I did it in a crock pot in my laundry room. Such good memories especially when I added caraway seeds. ❤️

I'm with you, Sister! I never weigh and compute percentages of brines for my ferments. It seems like such a waste of time when people have been just throwing veggies and salt together for thousands of years.

I need to make a batch of sauerkraut soon. Haven't made it in a long time. Thanks for reminding me how easy it is! Also, would love to see a video about kombucha! I've always wanted to try it but it seems so intimidating. Ps. Not sure if you have a Kroger near you but they carry passata.

I have tried caraway seeds before and it actually wasn’t my favorite and my kids didn’t like it at all. But I’ve heard it also aids in digestion so is a great idea!

FYI, your video is showing things reversed left to right (shows you as being left handed). I think there is a setting on your camera/phone that you can change to fix that. Anyway, I recently get back into eating sauerkraut. Your video is inspiring me to try and ferment my own. Thanks for the content.

It is a great side with nearly any dish… meat and veggies, a roast, tacos, chicken and rice… I also really love it with eggs for breaky and the other suggestions here are Great ideas!

In case you have not found her, the best RU-vid person, that I found for fermentation video's is Anna at The Fermented Homestead www.youtube.com/@FermentedHomestead I love Sauerkraut and make it all the time but the next time I make it I'm going to try a small batch as I'm the only one that eats it here and it gets really strong by the time I get to the bottom of a large batch.
