In today's episode we try to help Kain's sore eye with cleaning the cabin and the carpet. Bryce tackles the skirting around the house to prep for winter.
Thanks for working with us today, and we can't wait to see you on the next one!

Love the "flame treated" plywood! Nice progress on the house.

Its a Japanese style called Shou-sugi-ban that helps protect the wood naturally. My only regret is that I ran out of plywood and was only to get different plywood that looks much better but has a completely different wood pattern. So the cabin skirting looks patchy, but functional

Love that burnt look on the plywood ! cabin looks great & will be much warmer with that skirting :) Hopefully the carpet cleaning will help & it's not something like from the stain you used, hope the eyes better soon.

Can we get a tour of the outbuildings and stuff? You said on the first day that you had a guest cabin and that screened in portion on the shop is cool!

What a great video! I love how Cecil likes to help with vacuuming and lets Jen handle the carpet cleaning to herself! Hopefully the big boy’s eyes are better by now. Wonderful to see help on the winterizing, I hope you feel warmer these days! I always look forward to your videos. I’m like ok, don’t bother me I’m watching the wandering couple! 😂

it is likely offgasing fumes from the formaldehyde etc in the new carpet. Best to take it out of the house.

You can get foam mats like you see in a gym or in a kids room that wipe off instead of carpet

If you think it’s dust mites, move the bed go under and you will have to wash all your bedding too, I suggest washing down all the walls with a mop

Your doggo could be allergic to what the rug is made of or what the rug has been treated with....... SERIOUSLY, check to see what it is made from and/or treated with and contact your veterinarian. Blessings to y'all. 🙏😊💝🐾🐾

@averagewanderers You are very welcome. I got the idea from an incident that happened about 15 years ago. I was in a medical office with a friend and when I came out to the waiting room, she was standing. I asked why she was not sitting & she said she had been but everywhere the chair fabric had touched the skin on her arms were huge angry red welts. She said the fabric was something called "kapok" (kay-pok) to which she is highly allergic. I later found out that the allergic reactions to this is rare but does happen. Annnnnnyway, when you cleaned that new rug and it came out that dirty, it made me wonder how clean it was when Menards sold it to you. Looking at Kain's sad face was just heartbreaking. I have an affinity for boxers that brings me good memories. I normally don't ever yap this much but wanted you to have any info that could help you. 😊🙏🌻🐾🐾🇱🇷

Insulating your skirting isnt going to do much when your skirted envelope includes your un insulated porch floor. Also by screwing the skirting directly on the side of the cabin like that you will trap moisture between the two pieces of wood and cause rot.
@averagewanderers
@averagewanderers 7 месяцев назад
Thats a really good point. I do plan to use reflectix insulation under the entire cabin to help insulate. So knowing that it is now finished, my plan was to seal the top with caulking to prevent water from getting down there, along with sealing all the wood. Any other advice would be great!

. This is for a a summer project. Remove your skirting, and lay down concrete slab all the way around the cabin. Build it so it a little higher off the ground. Then replace your skirting. I don't know how you water pipe are running under your cabin. But you could enclose your water pipes and the pipe that comes up from the ground. by making a frame and putting insulation in the frame. Plus you can enclose a area under the cabin, to make storage. Again you would need to insulate it. You can build a door in the floor to get too it. Living by Lake Superior, there's a lot of wind . Being older, and wiser has taught us a lot.

Please get rid of the rug! I would swing to that being the irritant. I can’t believe it was that dirty! There is no way you brought in that much dirt! It should have been clean! I am so sad for you guys and for Cane! It is obviously very frustrating. Big hope so you got it solved!

We finally did remove it but we hadn't confirmed it was the carpet at this time. Seems obvious in retrospect and would have saved us a TON of money.
