Nature has a way of soothing our soul and mind, and inviting nature into our environment is like a tender hug. Thank you for reminding us. I find that if I plant herbs from seed, they last longer - of course, you have to wait until it grows, but the plant has time to acclimatize and the chances of survival are higher. P.S. Herbs like sunny areas but in summer a bit of shade won't do harm and plenty of water with good drainage.

Thank you so much for advice! I haven’t actually tried growing herbs from seed before, as I always buy little pots or make cuttings from herbs I don’t use! I will try planting them from seed next time!

I love British food. I grew up in the UK but I am Pakistani so I say this as someone who uses spice and a lot of flavour in their food. I'm not sure why british food gets such a bad rep. Maybe because it isn't super aesthetic? I find it wholesome, warm, it brings me joy and so much pleasure and I do find it very tasty... I like to call it the ratatouille effect. I much prefer it to intricate, complicated, overpriced bitesized servings of food. I'm not saying they're bad but I know which one I'd prefer regularly. Also, I find the German food I've tasted (I won't generalise it all) surprisingly bland, yet it does not get mocked the same way. Also, I love British food for not being snobby. Sorry for the rant 😅
@IamDaria
@IamDaria 3 месяца назад
Haha I agree with everything you say! I’m quite opposite to you - I grew up without any spice whatsoever, but when I moved here as a teen, I discovered a whole new world of wonderful spices and flavours! 😆 Actually, I realised that my family always made rather unusually flavourful food in comparison to what was normal in Eastern Europe. My in-laws can’t handle even black pepper and garlic for example. 🤪 British food can be rather comforting and gets a bad rep undeservingly so! Plus there is a whole array of other cuisines to discover all in one country as well, so that’s a great bonus!
@PQ_497
@PQ_497 3 месяца назад
I've heard of people finding black pepper spicy but I've never heard of anyone not being able to handle garlic 😱 I forgot to mention that a lot of people who hate on Britain dishes have not actually tried them - and yes, that is true! I hope too one day travel and try cuisines in their native lands though, as then it is more authentic. But you're making me miss the UK more than usual now 😭😂
@KtT-sn8cy
@KtT-sn8cy 3 месяца назад
@@PQ_497I wouldn’t call German food bland but I think it works basically the same as British food. In fact food in UK, Scandinavia, Ireland, Germany, Belgium, and list of Eastern Europe all work the same way, generally without using spices and very stodgy, but I think people just hate British people so they get all the shot for it rather than other parts of Europe where there foods are mostly identical
@PQ_497
@PQ_497 3 месяца назад
I had homemade German food in Germany for about a week so I'm speaking from my experience (and this is why I said I won't generalise). Most things are fine with just salt and pepper but it was honestly so bland it was almost impressive.
@KtT-sn8cy
@KtT-sn8cy 3 месяца назад
@@PQ_497 Fair enough, I do think Germany is known more for beer than food and that might be partly because their food isn’t particularly great

😍👍 Absolutely beautiful!! It's so wonderful, having a cup of tea while watching this fairytale of a video, and virtually walking amongst the rhododendrons! ☕😌😉 As for your basil issues, I think it is probably not you, but the weather.❄️ As most herbaceous plants, which are delicate, it tends to be annual in countries where the Autumn-Winter temperatures are low (it happens to me in the North of Spain, with our British-like weather). To keep it for a longer time, it needs perfect placement, which is not always possible, although your garden looks quite sheltered, so provided it is protected from the cold, it might thrive as a bush and be stronger. 😊 It doesn't like direct sunlight, though, so depending on the orientation, it can get easily sunburnt in the central hours of the day. When potted, it needs to have humid soil, but would rot if it gets too watery. It needs a well ventilated place too, especially when indoors. I think it has fuller growth when the stems are pinched, as well. And what a lovely aroma it has! 😊 Besides, it also drives pests away, which is really nice on its part! 😉 Hope you can keep it for a long time!🤞Thank you so much, Daria, and have a lovely weekend! 🙏👏👏👏🤗🥰😘

So soothing... One of the nicest parts of the day is watching these spring-summer videos and having some frozen blueberries or iced tea! We had a basil plant that did all right for a few years when I was very little, but I can seem to only remember that we, er, rather neglected it. There was a chopped basil & tomato and oil spread my mother used to make for toast from the leaves, I think!

It’s odd how hard it is to grow herbs. They’re supposed to be these sturdy things that developed specific scents and chemicals to protect themselves yet they wilt so fast 😭 the rhododendron garden looks absolutely stunning! Such amazing blooms! Amazing video as always! ❤
@IamDaria

Haha yes that’s what I thought about herbs too! I did read somewhere that they developed all their scents and flavours for protection… yet I can’t, for the life of me, grow them properly! 🤪

Some herbs are extremely hardy, like Rosemary and Mint. They like lots of sun. I grow them, as well as parsley, oregano and thyme, but I too have trouble with Basil. It's extremely sensitive. The market is a harsh environment for it. The pots often dry out, or get direct sun. Somewhere I read that leafy herbs don't need sun, but prefer indirect light instead. Also, I think the reason some herbs die is because they are annuals. They go to seed and then their lifespan begins to dwindle. They recommend pinching off flower buds when they begin to form to prolong the life of the plant.

My grandmother was born in Great Britain so as a child I was afforded the opportunity to experience such traditional meals Sunday roast Yorkshire pudding and my favorite was a dish she called Lancashire hotpot I believe she had some of her own special touches to such dishes she was an incredible cook as well as a baker her pies including the hearty Shepherds Pie were fantastic my favorites were Cherry pie and banana cake though as Spring season arrived there were plenty of lemon and blueberries which she loved and created breads cakes and pastries…I have her hand written recipe book with its torn and discolored pages some date back to the early 1900’s when her mother taught her how to cook…much simpler recipes as many spices were not known during that time period main courses were hearty as the temperatures were cold and flour and sugar were were costly vegetables and fruit were grown and chickens were raised for eggs so the recipes were created for what was readily available! I love history and how past generations created their meals with what was available to them …very beautiful videos beautiful spirit and a lovely beautiful country 🌸🌺🌿💐

Such a beautiful and relaxing video! I love the way you shoot and edit. ❤ Just wanted to share a little bit about Rhododendron. Last year I got to work with some Scottish reforestation experts and as you mentioned in the video Rhododendrons are a serious problem in native Scottish forests too. It takes a lot of man-power and money to tackle the problem and at the moment it's a loosing battle. It's unfortunately incredibly common for Rhododendrons to escape gardens, even if the owners are trying their best to be mindful of the problem. The only solution would be to stop planting Rhododendron. Just wanted to mention that in case anyone feels inspired to get some for their garden after watching this beautiful video. Maybe just get a native flowering plant instead!

To save your basil, maybe try to remove some leaves (50%), to prevent them from loosing water, because looks like the root be damage when you separate them, and they can't drink water 100%, get rid of some leaves will slow down loosing water. Also put them with plant pot in a big plastic bag and close the mouth to keep moisture until they get stronger. Here is some example, I plant my basil and other herb this way as well. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EGxajBfxLAk.html I hope it's work.
