Excellent video. No prattling, just sub-titles. Much better than a whole lot of other videos where people just talk and talk because they love the sound of there own voice. Engineering at its best. Thank you.
Top notch quality workmanship again.Your model is outstanding, have really enjoyed watching you build it and the burner idea is brilliant.Thank you for sharing.
this is the first video of yours have seen and i am extremely impressed not just at you workmanship that is excellent but a simple and well thought out shot and edited video thank you for taking the time to do this
Excellent! Well done! I've never had much luck soldering the same part twice like that. I'll reapply flux the next time and hopefully I'll have good success like you! Thanks for the tip.
this is really neat ,, i can't wait to see it run ,, i came across this video somehow as a suggested one ,, now i gotta go watch the whole series ,,it's really interesting cause i love steam engines
That's actually a very neat burner to make even outside this project also, for a cheap burner, they sure made a better one than the Bic version. I think i went through 9 of those before i switched to a higher end one.
Out of interest, how far off being sufficient was this burner? I know you had to change it. I am planning a small boiler myself, but it will be running a far lower rpm engine. Keep up the great work!
myfordboy hot air flow will goes up.Just one piece of aluminium foil or wood will protect well from infrared rays.Sorry for my eanglish,im from Russia and try to speak without translators =)
Any plans to make it radio controlled? Getting real close, can't wait to see it zooming along. Any bets on how fast it will be in the 10 yards? I'll say 24 seconds.
This Gas tank should have a Hydraulic Test to 600psi. This assumes a worst case scenario of using Propane in the tank. This can be done at a Model Engineering Society, who will have the correct Equipment. They should also issue a Test Certificate. There are now set of Regulations which require such Tests to be carried out. Likewise there are a set of Tests for Boilers.
@myfordboy Question:What is the name and brand of cyanoacrylate "Activator" that you use & where do you buy it? Amazing skill with the Lathe and genius inexpensive design as well!
I am also building a butane tank for a 3/4" traction engine right now. I was wondering if there should be a siphon tube on the burner fitting to supply the burner with liquid butane instead of the gas from the top of the tank? I know if I turn my tank/burner upside down the flame is about double in size!
+myfordboy Thanks for the reply! I could not find information on this subject anywhere, when I dis-assembled a butane lighter for a bbq grill I noticed they used a wick inside the tank. Thats great news because I did not want to take mine apart again.
+steamboatmodel These gas tanks need to tested differently than boilers and at a far greater pressure, so be very careful these can be very DANGEROUS if not designed, built and tested properly
+bolitho h Sorry misunderstood. It's a Sievert torch. I bought a Craftsman set years ago. It has about 6 different burners, regulator and hose. There is an economy setting so you can keep a pilot light lit controlled by a seperate knob.
You're from the UK? I thought you were American for some reason! I saw that you buy stuff from Poundland too. Cryo whatever is basically super glue with that chemical as the main component then.
Beautifully done! I love how tight and crisp the flame is on that burner, may have to get one :) How did you light the burner at the end of the vid? That looked like some party trick :P
