I have found 4 things have greatly improved the way my clothes look and how they make me feel. First is, like you said, taking the time each morning to prepare to meet the day...personal grooming, hair, makeup, and nails. Second is taking time attending to personal mental/physical health through meditation, yoga, journaling, and approaching the day with gratitude. This great affects the way you walk and carry yourself throughout the day. Another is, comfortable undergarments and shape wear. There is nothing that can ruin your day quicker than a bra causing you such pain that when you get in your car, rip it off cursing violently while throwing it with great force and hatred into the back seat of the car yelling..”I can’t even look at you right now!!!!” Being in agony from uncomfortable undergarments will definitely reflect on your facial expression! The fourth is, have a good tailor/seamstress. Due to my height (4’11”) and body shape, most off the rack clothing just do not completely flatter me. A little tuck here and there, or a professional hem can make a world of difference in the way clothing will grace your particular figure. I have fallen in love with a particular item, but found that one thing about that just doesn’t work for me. I prefer a more open neckline on my tops, so I take it to my tailor and have her make the appropriate alterations....easy, peasy...I’m a happy girl!!! I found a cute blazer that fit me well except it came down way below my hips...not working for me!Took it to the shop and had her take off about 5” inches or so...now I LOVE it!!! Oh, and one more...that is actually most important..when out and about...when passing by a reflective surface/window/mirror check your posture and your facial expression....a smile will do wonders for your overall appearance and how you project yourself to the world around you! Others greeted by a smile as you pass by can potentially change their day.
I couldn't agree more Mona - taking time to tend to your personal mental/physical health is SO important and often we don't make the time for it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts :)
Learning my color tones from Dresisng Your Truth was huge for me. Also watching utube videos for makeup application and suggestions from women over 40 was a game-changer for me
Using some of your ideas, I started putting items together that I thought were inappropriate together, and I got some fabulous looks and comments. It just goes to show you that stepping outside the box with fashion can really make you see things differently, and presto, I look really trendy!
Hi well said 🙏 I only buy colours that look good on me . Most stores are merchandised in colour blocks. I go straight to my colours and walk past the rest . It’s always basics we wear the most . Quality doesn’t have to cost more money for basics in my opinion . Outer wear I find I often need to spend a bit of extra money , being Petite I want good fitting jackets and Blazers ...for Petites . Patterns agree, small florals are safer . Patterned scarves can be an option .
Great tips, especially for shopping for outfits rather than pieces. I have so many pieces in my wardrobe I absolutely love but have nothing to go with it. I find for myself it helps if I plan on a monthly, then weekly, then daily schedule. Considering the weather forecast and my activities. This will let me know what kind of footwear and how I need to do my hair. Also, planning my outfit the night before is a great stress reducer in the morning.
I work in a clothing store. The thing I notice all the time is poor fitting lingerie. Many times I have fitted a customer with a bra and asked them to try on their top with it on. The difference can be amazing.
I do sometimes take a certain piece of clothing w me to find things to go w it!👍🏻 When I really like something, I will ask myself; Can I wear this w at least 3 pcs in my wardrobe? If yes, I buy it and try it at home w the other pieces. If they don’t go together, back in the store it goes! Love your quick and helpful tips!
I never met a trench coat or white button up shirt I didn’t like. If you are the kind of person that looks good in a hat, wear one when appropriate-it will get you noticed in a good way, and set you apart from other people, but it’s important to wear the hat and not let the hat wear you. If you’re not a hat person, having a signature piece/type of jewelry, or a red lip are also good basics to anchor or elevate any look. 😘
I can completely relate about the trench coat and white shirt - I've never me one I didn't like either LOL And thanks for the reminder about hats - I often forget how great hats can look. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment :)
You look great in this video! Love your side part! All these are helpful and valuable tips - especially taking the time to create outfits, know what colors and makeup look good - just all of them were worth watching!
My make up trick comes from my granny : if you have only one thing to wear : lipstick. Of course on your lips and also a bit on your cheeks. Sandrine, France
I loved that Dear Leone...thank you.....good reminders on creating outfits beforehand...it really is not easy sometimes to get dressed and it does not mater how much clothes you have ...I have to work on mine...and oh yes...those makeup techniques...I feel I still have not figure it out ever though I keep trying every day...getting close though..and that right shade of lipstick...omg..that took me trying a few of them to settle on pinks......I think that sticking to the colours that suits us( by colour theory) is such a great styling tip also...knowing your colours , tones..either in clothing or makeup..we save money bying ones do not bring our best features You have it right..and look so yuthfull....those killer legs of yours.....hug...Jana
Thanks for your lovely comment Jana and yes taking a little time to plan outfits ahead of time is such a game changer and knowing your makeup and clothing colours also makes life so much easier too. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment - it means the world to me :)
I really love your videos and so appreciate all the tips! I was wondering where you get your awesome tees. I'm more of a casual dresser and love graphic tees.
Thanks for watching Zinnia! I tend to get my tees all over the place to be honest but lately I've been buying them from an Australian label called Decjuba :)
Hi Leonie, could you please list all the makeup you are wearing in your video? Could you also mention your skin type (dry, combination etc)? Thanks so much!
Thanks Georgina and yep some of them are pretty obvious but I kinda think it doesn't hurt to get a little reminder from time to time. Thanks for watching :)
Oh thank you! My striped shirt is an oldie sorry from a label called Ketz-Ke www.ketz-ke.com and the earrings are from moochi www.moochi.co.nz - the earrings have sold out but I know for a fact they are being restocked so I will feature them on my channel when they are back in stock because I get SO many questions about them :) They are my absolute fave earrings :)
Omg great video. I am looking for the type of blazer you’re wearing at 2:15 in the video, with the three golden buttons and the open front underneath. I just have no idea how to search, is there a special name for this cut or a keyword I can use?
It's a Carly Blazer from Decjuba www.decjuba.co.nz/collections/women/products/carly-blazer-black It's super comfy and a real wardrobe favourite of mine :)
Jason & Michelle O'Gorman funny you say that because tomorrow I’m spending the day decluttering my wardrobe. Would that style of video be of interest to you?
@@Thestyleinsider. just curious if you made this video? I'm long over due for a declutter and have had organizers help but I hate to part with things. Mimimal is GREAT but I fear I would mourn the loss of all my fabric friends. I think many of us would love a tour of your closet and/or an informative Leonie style clean out. Thanks for another video with outstanding content!
Hi i saw u where a baggy jeans with outer coat... pls make a video on jean pants like tat. I like to see how to style comfy pants. Comfy baggy clothes...
I actually try to not shop too much at all if the truth be known but when I do I generally try and buy from local New Zealand labels and there are a couple of Australian labels I really like too. Moochi, Ketz-Ke, PE Nation and Decjuba are a few of my faves :)
I need your help! I am a teacher at a strict school, so I cannot look too stylish, or expensice, but must be functional and covered properly. What works for my situation?
Thank you that's so kind. This may be quite a generalisation but apple body types generally have great legs so my advice is always play to your strengths so if you have great legs then show them off. Also it often pays to wear v-necklines so you don't look too top heavy. I also find wearing long necklaces or fine scarves (worn long and narrow) tend to draw the eye down the body and give the illusion of length. Also try and avoid anything that draws attention to your midriff or falls across your midriff (like a top) because the eye will be drawn to that part of your body and usually on an apple it is the widest part of your body. Anyway, I hope these few tips help - thanks for watching :)
Thank you! I bought them from a local fashion label and because I get so many comments on them I've chatted to them and they are about to restock them. Would you like me to let you know when they are available again?
@@Thestyleinsider. Thank you for a reply. I hoped it was more "international" company... I live in Ukraine, so i don't think they will shipping me there. Anyway, thank you!)
Yes I think I do too but I was actually wearing the long skirt a bit too low on my hips in this video. It seems to hit at a much more flattering length if I wear it higher up on my waist. :)
A style rut? Does such a thing exist? I strongly doubt it. Capsule Wardrobe in coordinating colors and in classic shapes that suit your climate and figure. Grab a top, grab a pair of slacks and you're done.
The biker boots with the delicate midi skirt look terribly incongruous. I can understand a sixteen-year-old experimenting with that look, but on a grown woman, or worse, a mature woman, it just looks frumpy and tasteless. I like most of your advice and the outfits you wear, but not all. Some, like the aforementioned, or the ripped pants you showed, reek of someone trying desperately to look young-which in the end only makes them look older.
If u learn how to talk without showing your lower jaw that much, you would look much better and younger. It seems like you struggle too hard just to talk.Just saying
Well here's the thing Biak - my jaw lives on the front of my face so there's no hiding it from view so nothing will be changing my friend but your comment did make me laugh so thank you :)
