just purchased my 22" from walmart as well. First time i lit the burners i had the same issue. very small flame, i knew there was an issue when 20 minutes in on high there was no discoloration of the griddle. I unhooked the line, blew in both sides thinking there was something blocking the flow. i reconnected and WOW. Finally getting the right amount of heat. i was going to call Blackstone the next day to have them send me a new regulator. Then i started seeing these videos about the valve and tripping the safety gate in the regulator. I am very happy with the grill, been cooking on it the last 2 days. i will try your method on my next camp trip. thanks for sharing.
We've used this griddler for a variety of items including steak, fish, vegetables ru-vid.comUgkxMcXT6_MuT0hB3ejyGQQHaeof9bwoWPUf and mushrooms and it's been great! Gets that great smokey flavor when using high heat or sear. The grill works amazingly simple and very low smoke for what it is. Heat gets up fairly quick, especially on closed position. The griddler side is fairly simple, better for eggs and pancakes rather than any cooking. Use the flat plates with the grill side if needed.Cleanup is easy and having heat on both sides is great for cooking a large amount or panini press. This definitely gets hot though so be careful with the sides.
I've had this happen a few times starting a couple years ago. I looked it up online to fix it. It sure is nice to know this when you need it. Great video Nate
Thank you for sharing your tricks. I purchased a BlueRhino Razor, same issue. I ended up throwing it away in less than 4 months. The issue happened whether I used a 1lb or 20lbs tank. Dont waste your money.
Nice! Your going to be happy with it! It's well built,,, maybe too much. The stand could be used to support a car! Hey just a thought, about 3 times now I have emptied and washed the grease trap, then forgot to put it back and cooked. Left a nice puddle of grease.... Don't be like me LOL. Enjoy bud and thanks for checking out the video! -N
I'm glad I saw this video too as I just took mine out of the box yesterday. I was planning on seasoning it this weekend but the weather isn't cooperating so will probably wait until later next week. Should I use the smaller propane canisters for the seasoning or would I be ok to hook it up to a big tank? Thanks
Big fan of the channel, thinking of getting a 22 to take camping and such but was wondering if you guys ever made a video fully reviewing this? Can't seem to find one
Ok, you have provided something useful to the world of RU-vid, Well Done! I have tons of experience with propane, decades. Yet, I have never suffered over pressurization. I have just purchased a Razor by Blue Rhino and on the second fire, nothing but low and SLOW. You made sense and I went right out to try the technique! You saved me, Thank You. Stand Fast William of Clan Grant
Same, just got a razor griddle but couldn’t get it to get hot for some reason. Followed the instructions on this video and it’s been working flawlessly, thanks you!
The pressure regulator was designed with the small bottles in mind. not the big tanks. There are adapter hoses with a regulator built into it and the double regulator setup should work fine as the first regulator knocks down the pressure to something the original one can handle. Grill on!!
I have the same model and the regulators are the problem. According to Blackstone, if they sense a leak, it will go into a low flow for safety.. I did a warranty replacement on my first regulator. I also did a similar video a few months back 👍🏻
Any ideas on my how to fix my 36? The flame looks like it is the right size but the griddle isn't getting as hot as it should. I also get alot of red-ish dust that build up on the shelf. Not sure if this is rust or some by-product of a propane/burner issue. Thanks for commenting! -N
Pain in the a^% to keep messing with it. buy an adjustable regulator hose on amazon for $13, and an adapter for the blackstone for $10. Works like a champ, and you can get that flame like a rocket engine if you want. Best $ I ever spent on my blackstone
That metal tank igniter tubing hanging off the side would drive me absolute bonkers while cooling. It’s so in the way. I’m glad the 36” isn’t like that.
If u look online, it says don't open tank wide open That's what caused the over pressure shuttoff safety to kick in. Once I discovered this, I cut my tank on just 1/4 turn and have for the last year with no problem and it's a 4 burner and has no problem with all 4 on
I have a blue rhino razor 36" with 3 burners and a right side sear. The left burner and right side sear will lite but the two middle burners wont lite. Any ideas?
My Blackstone would not light up or at best get little gas flow. I tried everything suggested here and elsewhere. But then it occurred that it may be the same thing that happened years ago on my gas grill. Insect nest in the gas line! Probably a spider cocoon....I took a tie wrap and fed it through the gas connection, twirled it around a few times and presto...FIRE! PS...Don't forget to put the little black cap on the gas feeder when you are done cooking... (That's how they get in.)
I got one Wal-Mart and it will not light at all and they will not take it back because it my house worming gift so I am stick with they over size papers waite I an so mad that it dont work
Suggestion, rotate your griddle 180* so the side shelf is to the left & get full use of your side shelf. 99% of the setups I see are wasting the side shelf functionality.
call blackstone customer service and request a new regulator. The regulators are kinda low quality. I have replaced a few already. that sounds possibly hazardous. BS has been pretty good with replacing them for me. -N
I had a similar problem with my 36 inch griddle with full 20# cylinders. I could run those half filled 20# cylinders from Walmart or local grocery stores, but if I put on a cylinder filled by loacal LP company, it would completely overload the regulator and shut down the griddle. I now have a big dual stage regulator on my big Blackstone and it works fine with either type of tank. My local LP company boys did a bang up job fixing my griddle. My old regulator would turn into a block of ice if connected to a fully filled 20# cylinder. Not any more. It did not happen on my 17 inch griddle when I connected it to a new 20# cylinder. It also works fine on 1# cylinders but when I refill them I keep them under 920 grams.
Hi John, I had to go look up what a dual stage regulator was. I had no idea such a thing existed. It's very helpful info... thank you for sharing!!! 👍 -N
@@TheGriddleGuys I could send you a picture if you want. It keeps filled tanks from slugging the griddle with liquid gas. The regulator that came with my 36 inch griddle would turn into a block of ice and shut down my griddle. They also put a spin on connector on my regulator, so I can connect it to the tank as before. I did not have a similar problem with my 17 inch griddle when I connected it to a full 20# cylinder. I tried working with Blackstone but those idiots want you to jump through their hoop to get any support. The handle on my hamburger smasher broke, due to bad welds, and I contacted them. I do not jump through hoops. I just welded the damn thing back together. As you can tell I am not some idiot that fell off the turnip truck that went through town last week. I get things done and do not waste a lot of time doing it.
After watching several clips on this I figured out to spray compressed air through griddle inlet and through the regulator hose both ways should’ve done that first now the brand new griddle works great
Thank you for that information I have the same griddle and I was having big trouble with it getting hot first time I used it I loved it after that I could not get it hard
Same thing happened to my 22. Turning nobs off and disconnecting the tank from the hose for 30 seconds, then connect the hose and slowly open the propane until fully open. Now light up the grill like normal. Thanks for the videos!
Aggravating situation no doubt. Ironically this just happened to my dad the other day,,, he was pissed and apparantly never watched our video LOL. gotta get on him to be a better supporter LOL. Happy New Year Brad and thanks for subbing! -N
thanks i don't suppose you would know of a chart of what tempature something should be cooked. on the griddle i just used mine first time tonight it wAs fun but kinda rough
There is nothing wrong with the regulator if it works with a 1 pound bottle it will work with any size propane tank. The problem is the hose connector at the 20 pound bottle. There is a built-in check valve that is supposed to stop the propane from escaping from the bottle if the hose ruptures. The small 1 pound bottles that are being used have the same pressure in them as a 20 pound bottle. The bottle size doesn't matter. Propane has the same vapor pressure in any container it is stored in. At 70 degrees F. you will have 110# of pressure and at 80 degrees F. you will have 128# of pressure no matter the size of the bottle.
This totally worked!!! Brand new 22’ and I couldn’t get it started. Took some fiddling with the knobs but the slow open of the tank and little bleed off with the buttons did the trick!! Thank you!!!
Every time you turn on a newly connected tank, on anything, open the valve slowly. If the gas flows too quickly (which it would do until the hose is pressurized), it will trigger the wonderful safety mechanism. This also prevents the flow if the valve is accidentally opened or a hose breaks or anything. And, don't open the valve with the burners on, that'll trigger it too. The only reason this worked in this video is you opened the valve slowly. If it does get triggered just shut off the tank for a second and then open it slowly again.
My regulator is freezing up. Changed 1lb. bottles and same problem. Also, the bottles gave off bursts of gas when disconnecting. It is brand new. Any tips?
I had this issue, and I have the 20# tank with its own regulator, and it plumbs directly in, not through the mini tank regulator. So it's not (only) caused by the tiny regulator.
I'm planning to purchase the 36" soon. I have a direct propane line on my back porch from a 250 gallon tank that supplies my home. Has anyone tried this and will it work? I have a gas clothes dryer, stovetop, water heater and central heat that run off this tank.
Jeff does that and yes it works fine. I would have some form of a shutuff for when griddle 8s not in use. Would stink to have a leak and lose a ton of gas you had to pay for. N
You don’t have to have the gas lines open while opening the tank, just make sure you open the propane tank very slowly and it won’t trigger the safety valve in the regulator.
