Great video Liz. Having followed you for years and taking your advice, I actually eat pretty well (used to hate dark chocolate - now love it) but over the summer holidays it's all gone a bit downhill!! This is a great reminder to get me back on track! ps love your organised cupboards 😍 xx
I love Lindt chocolate, you don’t need much to satisfy. Dare not buy Cadbury’s etc as too addictive! My dad used to slice a Mars bar in tiny pieces and share it with the family - it was delicious that way but I avoid it totally now. What I see some children eat is astounding! I eat prunes as they help with calcium and bowels lol I grow my own berries, blueberries can be tricky but raspberries, strawberries and blackberries are easy. Shop bought are heavy on pesticides and having owned a cherry orchard and other fruits I’m very aware of it! Great tips Liz and love your new kitchen 💚
Great timing that I have just seen your video, because I am on Day 3 of a 60 day personal 'Sugar Free Challenge', in the hope that at the end of 60 days I will have changed my habit and love of all things sweet, and my 'go to' snacks (biscuits, cake, desserts, chocolate, etc etc!!!) Your tips will help me on my way. I was blown away by the quantity of sugar in the Mars Bar - one of my favourites!!! I have had a 'sweet tooth' my entire life, and struggled with excess weight (76 years old), so I am skeptical that I can change that, at this late stage. However, I am hopeful, that it is never too late!!
I noticed your comment of sugar free diet. I would love to try this. Can you tell me where I can get a sugar free plan . As EVERYTHING seems to contain sugar. Thank you so much
@@princessjulia5646 just converting to whole foods is a great way to do it, and avoiding tropical and other very sweet fruits. I avoid things with an ingredients list, as there are virtually always obvious AND hidden sugars in factory-made foods.
Love these shorts as they are useful reminders! I do believe in all things in moderation and I dont eat dried fruits other than medjool dates which I know are high in sugar but are also beneficial. x
@@lizearlewellbeing hi Liz could you recommend an exfoliator for mature skin I am 60 in few weeks not a clue where to start i have never exfoliated or could you do a video on this topic many thanks appreciated 😊
The government needs to employ you to educate people and to make food companies reduce the hidden sugars in their products. It should be against the law.
Thank you so much for this reminder. It was so helpful X I always get confused with the carbohydrates of which sugar blurb … not knowing what is considered acceptably low. It’s hidden in so much of our foods . It’s even in smoked salmon now !.. I’ve also gone a bit downhill last few weeks ! Lol 😔 didn’t manage to go abroad anywhere so definitely feeling the lack of sunshine at home this year
I’ve literally gone out to purchase the ingredients during this video!!! I’m going to substitute agave or maple syrup to make the cake vegan. What’s not to love 😍
Brilliant advice Liz. The problem is my husband, now that he's retired, and he's craving the sweet stuff, but when he's young (now he is 73 years old) and still working he is never bother with cakes etc etc. And myself l always keep busy, running 🏃♀️5k three morning a week, and go to bootcamp three evenings a week, managed to control my food intake, while l am busy it stop me from craving for foods. Of course l have my weaknesses for nuts and crisps. Thank you again for your very informative video.
Have the same problem with my husband since he's retired. Thinks it's compulsory to have a cake a day. Doesn't help me at all. This year my will power has gone out the window and I am not pleased with myself for being so weak.
Thanks for this Liz. Any tips for keep my winter carb obsession under control? I really grave them during autumn/winter, leaving me feeling bloated and sluggish. I want to be full of energy and I'm just not. I suffer quite badly with SAD too - Seasonal Affective Disorder. I'd love to just hibernate, but I can't. And then the carb heavy food comes out. What can I do nutritionally to help me feel more full of energy and wake up feeling more energised?
Hi Tracey - do take a look at Liz's tips in our article here lizearlewellbeing.com/healthy-living/seasonal-affective-disorder-symptoms/ a vitamin D supplement may be helpful too throughout the winter months.
excellent advice. personally i would never use protein powder. also, when you greatly reduce your carbohydrate intake, food cravings go away. no need to snack.
My husband and I eat blueberries and take seven seas cod liver oil capsules which includes vitamin A which correct me if I'm wrong I've read it benifits our eyes.I also take Bare Biology fish oil when I remember. My husband seemed very pleased with his eye test yesterday his results came back very positive from his optician which found his eyes are changing and he doesn't need 3 lenses now only one, I'm wondering if it's the vitamin A or the handful of blueberries he takes every day which has caused his eyes to change one will never know. Thanks again Liz and team for keeping us in the know regarding products and guidance on how to keep our body healthy.😊
Really helpful video thx Liz!! What if you don’t like the bitterness in dark chocolate but still want to enjoy some? What would you recommend then? Thx!
Would recommend starting gradually with dark chocolate - e.g. opting for one with 70% cocoa and then gradually working your way up as your taste buds adapt
Thank you for the information. Will try the Dark chocolate. I was wondering with Berries and Veg should i rinse with just water to clean or Baking Soda? i have seen videos that say use the soda to wash out pesticides or insects etc
Looking forward to watching this as I am addicted to sugary foods since I gave up smoking in 2006 and was diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes. I can't stand the texture of nuts and most recepies or snack ideas contain nuts
I fast every day and my first meal of the day is at 11am and I have a home-made smoothie, I just wonder whether I have too much sugar from the fruit, my ingredients are Banana/1/2 Avocado/Blueberries/Raspberries/Mango or Pineapple/Chai seeds soaked in Coconut water/Milled Flaxseeds and 2tbs of Greek Yog, any advice would be truly appreciated.
Tropical fruits tend to be higher in sugar. If you're concerned about sugar content, we'd go for berries as they're lower in sugar! Thanks, Rachel (social media manager) ❤️
Thanks for all your tips Liz.. I do try to watch what I eat and would like to know if there is such a thing as Sweet Cinnamon? I got some in Tesco and it tastes very sweet. I usually have cinnamon toast for breakfast and wonder if this is just cinnamon with sugar/sweetner added to it?
But what about if you need to watch your cholesterol? My doctor has told me to cut out full fat products like milk, butter and yogurt and go for low fat etc? I feel a bit unsure what would be the best thing to do for breakfast…
Liz is an advocate of high fat (healthy fats) and low carb (sugars). Like many more recently trained medics, she does not favour low-fat. More info on our website. Hope helpful! Annie x
Honestly, doctors are pretty clueless about nutrition. They only study nutrition for a few hours over the course of their whole degree. It's coming to light that higher fat diet isn't bad for you as initially thought of. You want to focus on healthy fats like in this video. Nuts, olive oil, coconut oil, eggs, butter etc. Look up a guy named Dr Ken Berry on RU-vid. He is very well informed.
@@Enigmatized13 yes, I follow Dr Ken Berry too. I also follow Dr Jason Fung, Dr Sten Ekberg and Dr Mark Mason. They are all brilliant. I’m about three months into following a keto diet to reverse my NAFLD and borderline type 2 diabetes. I’ve lost 44 pounds so far (gone from obese to overweight) and have got my BP down to normal so stopped beta blockers and I also stopped taking dangerous statins that caused some very worrying symptoms. All sugars and simple starches are what are causing the metabolic syndrome epidemic - not fats. I’ve given up all grains (and their products such as bread, pasta, pastry, biscuits, cakes) all sugars and all simple carbohydrates.
Having osteoporosis I can tell you prunes are good for bones as they help with retaining calcium. Also of course good for bowels. It’s the one dried fruit I have daily. Not sure you need the honey but I’m no expert there.
Mr Kellogg should be …😷… how is is now possible to give children sugar loaded breakfast cereal? It’s frightening now sweet cereals are now. Then as you say…craving sugar all day.
Why does eating healthily cost so much more money that I cannot afford 😓 I can’t afford the nuts and the avocados, organic fruit, Kefir and such like 😰 And the kids wouldn’t eat any of that apart from the fruit which are also expensive amongst a family
We have some helpful guides online about how to make kefir & kombucha etc at home - hope helpful lizearlewellbeing.com/healthy-food/healthy-recipes/drinks/how-to-make-kefir/
Get the fruit on offer from the cheaper supermarkets. Like Aldi super 5. Just as there are budget biscuits and luxury ones there are cheaper healthy options out there.
I have natural Muesli, no fruit just nuts, with full cream yogurt and frozen raspberries every day have for years would hate to give it up but think those carbs are not a good start to the day.
If you store your sticks of celery and carrot in water in a lidded container they will stay fresh and crispy for ages. If uncovered they will dry out really quickly.
I keep celery and carrots in the chiller. I buy enough to eat within a few days and then buy fresh. Vitamins and nutrients leach out and the quality is spoiled if soaked in water.
My primary doctor finally gave me HRT(Medroxyprogesterone) after two years of begging for HRT, but, I haven’t taken them, because I thought I needed estrogen replacement, this is progesterone. I’m waiting to see a gynecologist who works with HRT, (very hard here in NYC) they don’t take insurance, so, I feel stuck!

Anthony William, the Medical Medium, cautions against overeating fat (including healthy fat) especially in the morning. Too much fat overburdens the liver which carries out over 2000 functions. And he advocates lots of fruit (yes, even mangoes and bananas) because they provide the best fuel for the liver - glucose. A healthy liver really is the secret fountain of youth. I have a delicious smoothie made with mango and banana and berries and green leaves which keeps me full until lunchtime.
This advice is rubbish I’m afraid. It’s not fat that overburdens the liver. It’s sugar. And fruit does not provide glucose. Its sugar is fructose - a sugar which the rest of the body cannot process, and so it burdens the liver because the liver converts fructose into fat and stores it.
