Hi Marcia! I'm not sure I understand exactly what you are asking. I use a buttercream or Ganach on the outside of the cake, then, I cover the icing with a homemade marshmallow fondant: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Jsz0pBVa-i4.html and I decorate on top of the fondant with Royal Icing: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-M7osUvgi6YU.html Did that answer your question??

I use the same size cardboard as the cake pan. This one was an 8" and a 10" The base is 12"
