I agree! I had to pick up a pair of the V2s after putting 450+ miles in V1 (they are still going strong for my easy days). I think what I value most is how protective these shoes are for my legs. They leave me in a consistently fresher state of recovery which helps with more training volume. Long durability, high versatility, and no gimmicks. Asics knocked it out of the park.
have been doing slow runs in my GT 2000 for years, impeccable shoe! Bought the superblast earlier this year because I realized, that I should not run a Marathon in a carbon plated shoe. And I gotta say I love the Superblast as well, even wore them on Treshold sessions and they are doing an excellent job. Did the job perfectly on Race Day as well, i think for a lot of Non-Elites the Superblast is also a good option for a Marathon especially when you need some stability.
Really appreciate your note at the end about being a sample size of one. I feel like sometimes online reviews can (not intentionally) give the impression they're talking in absolutes. I have the Superblast 2, I like it, but it's not setting my world on fire.
My two favourite shoes of all time, Superblast 1 and Superblast 2. Both sensational shoes, very lucky to have both still relatively new (204km and 124km respectively) so will do nearly all my marathon training 🙌🏻
Hi Ben, Superblast is king of the super shoes :). I have more than 800K in my Superblast OG, and shoe feels still good. Very good durability. Was also successful to get brand new version 2, so soon will start using it. I'm really looking forward to using another version 2. I loved Saucony Endorphin Speed lineup, but currently Superblast looks better more verstaile and more comfortable than Speed 4. Thanks for you thoughts. I'm glad you love this shoe too. All the Best. Ben regarding bulging discs, looks to me that in my case it was because of imbalance of lots of training and insufficient vitamin D3. So maybe consider if you have enough those supplemets vitamin D3, K2, Magnezium, Zinc and B vitamins, all working together and providing necessary nutrition for discs.
If you think about it, this shoe could be used as a tempo / Session shoe and on top of that a really durable one, which for me justifies the price! I use the Superblast as my go fast shoes and the Novablast 4s as my Daily Trainer which then is cheaper then buying a plated alternative in training.
@@ThomasRedmond-q8q I don’t think so! They’re actually really light! Especially because they are a bit bigger they feel really light. Love them for mile repeats, k reps and even 800/400s
I wish that they released a drop with this prototype colorway. I love that simple white with the black arches going down onto the midsole. The paris color is still really nice too
What I find crazy is the fact that Asics kind of disappeared for a few years and didn't make any great shoes but now they have come from the ashes and have created the GOAT. Its like the saucony endorphin speed 2 but on another level!
Love the shoe, have the Paris color on them and 350km, my only issue with them are my recovery runs. Thats because i feel like they «force» the speed higher and thus my HR a little too high(my recovery pace is 5:45-6:30 km). Btw love the videos 🫶(first time comment hehe)
My favourite shoes too My v1 has over 500km (300miles) and still going strong Got a pair of v2 Very agile, comfortable and durable Price for me is justified considering how versatile and durable they are My complaint is how hard it is to score a pair...at least in Australia 🤷🏼♂️
The only issue I'm seeing about these shoes is that because they are extremely good your feet will get extremely weak. Also they will allow you to train more than your body is capable of, hence you are prone to an inevitable big injury because you moved the bottleneck from feet to your knees/hip,/spine. Good luck and use shoes wisely, train in very thin sole and race in super shoes.
Great video Ben, What a shoe the superblast is. I've only worn the superblast 1 before but I loved it, if the 2 has FF turbo + I think I'll have to try it out!
It's crazy to think that a few years ago when the vaporfly's got big, they were no where really, but they have brought out some quality shoes over the last few years!
"Makes all my other running shoes feel like sh@#." hahaha could not agree more! There's been a slew of new trainers that have come out fairly recently post superblast 2 but it's hard to justify getting any of thembecause this shoe just works!
Yeah, great shoe. I like that I can run a bit slower a bit more comfortably than the first version. I must say, it took two maybe three weeks of straight running in them to feel the total comfort of the ride. Not sure if it was the foam that needed to break in or me getting used to the shoe but I wasn’t that impressed initially. But, boy, it gets better and better.
@@BenIsRunning I haven’t seen the all white (or I guess light grey and white). I’ve just seen the white with very light blue midsole. Love the pair that you have.
@@BenIsRunning I will try to not win any category with my under 4hrs goal :) See you here in Berlin at the start line, all the best with your recovery!
Ben's Likes: - The midsole: one of the most bouncy + protective midsoles for easy miles. - Versatility: "Extremely Versatile". You can use it for easy, long and progression runs - Stability: Thanks to the wide toe box and heal area. - Grip: You can run in the wet, on gravel, round corners, buffed trails etc - Durability: Ben has run 350km+ and barely a single sign of wear and tear
Thanks for commenting on durability. A lot of shoetubers will review a new shoe every week but if Im shelling out 200+ how long it holds up rather than the box fresh feel is more important.
I found my self asking the question "Will running in such a cushioned and bouncy shoe, like the superblast 2, over a long period of time cause your feet to become weak and increase the chance of injury?" Here's what I found: Running in cushioned and bouncy shoes like the Asics Superblast 2 could potentially weaken foot muscles over time. Heavily cushioned shoes can reduce proprioception (your foot's awareness of the ground), which may lead to underdeveloped muscles and reduced stability. This can increase the risk of injury, especially when transitioning to less cushioned shoes or running barefoot. To prevent injury it’s important to maintain a balanced approach by incorporating exercises that strengthen foot muscles and regularly running in different types of footwear to promote overall foot health. Take of this what you like! Have a great day.
I’m glad to hear the midsole is extremely durable. $200 is not cheap so if I could take it up to 800+ miles that could warrant the price since other shoes I own last 400-500 miles
I fell over on a run in Superblast 2 last week. I think my running form is not perfect at the moment. But the high stack height doesn't help. It makes the shoe unstable. I don't blame ASICS. I just wanted to say say a high stack height also has some drawbacks.
Have you tried the Asics Novablast Ben ? Would be interesting to hear your take on the two compared, I have two pairs of Novablast 3 and love them, I paid about £67 each for them and notice the Superblast is quite a bit dearer, Thanks, keep up the good work 👍
I have 560 miles on superblast 1 and 280 on novablast 4. SB feels bouncier and more protective in the forefoot. NB feels a bit more flexible a bit smoother underfoot. Both perform well on long runs, particularly with some faster work (e.g. today I did a 20 miler with the last 6 around half marathon pace.) Both feel stable, a notable improvement for NB4 over NB3. SB is more versatile if you want to use it for races.
I trained for and ran my first marathon in SB1. I’ve even set my 5k PB in them so if anyone suggest that they are slow, don’t believe them! I have a pair of SB2 ready to go but still using my SB 1 at present 😁
2nd shoe i bought back in 2010 was Asics Cumulus, and that one lasted for 2-3yrs, got me to over 2,200km. 😅 My Superblast OG is now at 800+km and what i hate is i cant justify buying another shoe because my Superblast is still doing fine 😅😅😅
I suppose there would be a lot of people going for this shoe as opposed to a carbon plated shoe to do a lot of their marathon training and race . I also think you answered your own question of the why its so expensive . And I haven't heard a bad review of the show either.
I’m new to running and my first shoe was the ASIC Kayano 30’s. Couldn’t believe it when I got my superblasts 2’s. They feel so light and fast. How big is the step up to a carbon shoe, say the edge or sky?
Sounds great… I wonder if ASICS will gauge demand more accurately than they did with the original. Very common sizes have been permanently out of stock for months.
@@RobE8475 UPS is now giving us the option to ship internationally - but its unchartered territory for us. I have no idea what the cost would be until you checkout
Hi, thank you for the review! I had a pair of Novablast 4 and I started having some issues after 400km. Probably due to my extremely forefoot running style, I found the upper and the midsole collapsing too easily, making my foot not still and causing some abrasions. Do you think it will happen the same with the superblast 2 or it is substantially different?
For anyone else, who like me has been waiting months for Asics to restock this shoe in the UK, they now have two new colourways in stock: one with a violet upper and white/silver midsole or the grey upper with a powder blue midsole. Feel like the doors have just been opened to Primark on black Friday as they're selling fast!
@@markeason9626 yeah that was pretty damn fast. At time of writing last night the website still had a few of the larger sizes in stock. I've heard the US black colourway might also be coming soon?
I have a pair of Novablast 4's that I absolutely love for easy runs and even off road because it's extremely stable like this one. Now I definitely want to try the Superblast but your only downside is a dealbreaker at this moment, it's too expensive. Perhaps in a few months when prices come down.
@@remcodejong9149 yeah £200, no matter how good a daily trainer is, I’d say is too expensive but guess they can charge what they like when the demand is there :)
3:34 Funny, I think this is the first time I've heard this argument from the other side. For the same reason people are wrong to complain about a training shoe being 'too slow', it's not a problem in principle for a training shoe to be too fast. If the shoe lets you run at your desired effort level for the required duration, then there is no problem. Pace achieved in training is largely irrelevant.
I just bought the cool grey/silver colorway but I WISH they released this colorway instead. The all white and logo that bleeds down into the midsole looks cooler than the ones they released to the public.
Love the superblast 1, did about 1,000kms in it. From my experience, the midsole in SB1 feels okay till about 900km and and once it starts feeling bottomed/flattened out, it feels quite dead. Not the gradual deterioration I've experienced with other trainers. Did you find the SB2 upper better in terms of breathability than SB1?
I have a pair coming my way, soon.., after missing out on the Paris colorway. I hope I enjoy them. also, glad you called out the price, and to think the original was $225 USD, before they came to there senses and drop it down a few bucks. I hope I like them, as they can eliminate me having a shoe rotation .. as I basically just have daily trainers, speed days, and trails ...I dont do race shoes. great stuff, thanks for the analysis. be well
I also love this shoe. My favorite at the moment, and after almost 500km i still fells like a new pair. But i dont understand why they are so har to find. Sold out almost after release.
Is the improvement significant enough to justify buying a SB2 directly when I get the chance or the update small enough to wear out v1 completely before? Will get it sooner or later anyway though.
Thank u Ben, u r the best. I have both 1 & 2 version but prefer the 2 version as the first one feel a bit big in toe box for me and can’t lock it right for some reason
Wish they released that color in the US ended up going with black holding out on Paris color hoping for better color releases but paris was the best IMO. Had to settle for black hopefully they look nicer in person it is my first Superblast I finally bit the bullet.
Hey yo all, nice video by the way, any video or brand to advise for a budget beginner heavy runner shoe? Nothing fancy just good support for someone quite heavy
hah just went out for my first easy run in these shoes and was at least 5 seconds faster per km than i intended. they are so bouncy though, really enjoyable to run in. asics got the level of energy return vs comfort just right. i justified the cost with the durability, if they cost 40% more but last 40% longer... not sure if this will actually happen.
Would say it’s worth finding the vs1 second hand somewhere for cheaper, or go ahead and buy the vs2 Also would you say that the vs1 is your second favourite shoe of all time
