He doesn’t sing opera actually.. nor is or was he trained. He only sang Nessun Dorma like a few times, in concerts. It was more like.. he liked it and want to try performing/singing it to Shawols (SHINee Fans) and that’s it. He tries lots of things.. other time he did tap dance, other time he did a 40+ sec long note.

Onew's performance of "Nessun Dorma" was performed in 2016 as a solo stage during one of SHINee's Japanese concerts, but it is not the first time Onew has performed this song, he has been performing it since SHINee's early days. Whether it's a performance from 2011 or this one from 2016, there isn't much difference -- his voice is a little more mature in 2016, but it was still impressive from the beginning. Onew is not classically trained in opera, but he had been training as a singer for more than 10 years when this performance took place, and he has an amazing range and understanding of his voice. He is also a musical stage actor, so he understands how to project his voice to the back of the theater and he knows how to tell a story through the performance of the song. "Nessun Dorma" is an Italian song, so I am sure he spent time studying an original version of the song, and really worked on perfecting the pronunciation of the words. He doesn't speak Italian, but he could fool you into thinking he can with this performance. ;p Onew is know for having clear and perfect pronunciation when it comes to languages -- he, and all the SHINee members, seem to have an ear for being able to pick up on the nuances, inflections and phrasing in different languages that make them seem like native speakers. It's that attention to detail that makes them that much more impressive. Onew is a member of SHINee, so of course he is an amazing singer and performer.That's why the members of SHINee are some of the most well respected singers and artists, and why they are one of the top groups in the industry. SHINee are the golden standard when it comes to live performances. It's literally known as the SHINee standard, and it's what all other groups strive to reach. If you are impressed with Onew's vocal range in this performance, just wait until you see his performance of "Friend," ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-l5wJDyko5z8.html. Onew broke the record for the longest continuous note at 40+ seconds, just because he could. I believe that this performance was at the Tokyo Dome in Japan, so there were 55,000 fans in that audience, and, yet, listen to how quiet the whole audience is. They are all just as speechless as you. :) The Tokyo Dome is one of the largest concert venues in Japan and there is an unwritten rule that in order to get permission to hold an event there you have to be able to fill it to capacity. SHINee are so popular as Japanese artists that they are one of the few acts that are actually asked by the concert promoters to hold another concert there. Most people have to ask to hold an event at the Tokyo Dome, but with SHINee, executives actually contact SM and ask them to please hold another event there. SHINee are so popular in Japan that they know they will have no problem selling out within minutes of tickets going on sale and most likely they will have to have multiple day events because fan demand will be so high. SHINee has even held fan meeting events at the Tokyo Dome that weren't even full concerts and were still able to sell out. Which just goes to show you, how popular they really are.

All of the SHINee members have distinct and beautiful voices, and they all blend so well together.. all five of them. 💕 I sent you a link to a live performance with all members in your previous reaction.. and it’s beautiful. Can never go wrong with a SHINee performance, esp. the Live performances.

An opera singer once reacted to this and she said as a non-opera-singer he did great. He would not pass an opera audition with this she said, but with proper training, he might.

This performance always brings me to tears. It’s so beautiful.

Shinee are a very vocally competent group. Not only on the studio but also live stages. All five have their own voice colour yet sounds beautiful together. Imho a very rare occurrence in a pop group. They can perform angsty angry songs one moment and soft gentle healing songs effortlessly the next. Although their experimental music may not be a cup of tea for some people but when they perform live, no reactors that I've watched say anything negative. Just praises. Not only for their vocal prowess, but also their stage presence, charisma and confidence. They've been in the business since 2008. They've progressed, matured and polished like a diamond. Thank you for appreciating Onew. Do look forward to his 2nd album in early 2022. Currently he's busy with his solo activities - a duet, a variety show and a horror drama. The duet with Punch, called Way, will drop on 6th Dec on the SMtown channel as an SM Station collaboration. Do check out his first album title track, Blue MV on the SMtown channel. I know nothing about singing, but here is our Onew blowing the theory that Kpop singers can’t sing out of the damn water. His voice is pure magic. When I first saw this during their concert I cried. Lol.

ahhh onew, my beloved! you should also check out the other quintessential onew video 'rainy blue' ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-TmuC_gxum5Y.html which he sang after he got vocal surgery! it was the first time he'd sung properly with everyone wondering if he would be able to do it and he did! onew's voice is probably the most unique in all of kpop (his tone is very distinct in every song) and one of the clearest. he also holds the longest note in kpop history (40secs) so yeah discovering him is very fun!

As a Korean learner, I'm so very impressed by his pronunciation - in opera!! - of the letter 'R'. It's not a sound that exists in Korean (or rather, it does - sorta kinda not really)...or maybe Westerners just take R and L to extremes, instead.
