Well this has Banksy written all over it, both physically and directorally .... dude was given free reign to do a Simpsons opening and he did this.... gotta give him credit...
And Android, and Kindle, and pretty much every electronic device. You do realize FoxCon's biggest client is Amazon, right? Then Samsung. So if you're using an Android, welcome to the slave makers.
This is especially relevant to the animation industry, given that this is an animation. We get this big idea that somehow that shows are fully produced in hollywood, but only the ideas are produced there. The actual frame-by-frame work is completed in Korea usually. We're such a mass-consumption based society that we've even outsourced our art.
+Risky Beaver south korea is absolutely NOT like that. SK is on par with the US in terms of quality of life. You're thinking China or NK, or really any Asian communist nation.
@Christian Schmude: Fox aren't allowed any say in what happens on the Simpsons, that's why they are allowed to take the piss out of them; in many episodes they have :D Also this intro was made because someone said that the frames and stuff from the Simpsons episodes were made by people in Korea... So they decided to take the piss xD We have just studied this intro at uni so that's where I got told about it xD
fergieson32 oh I am more than aware of all the opportunities in which the simpsons take a piss at fox... see I am not surprised to see them take the piss... I am however surprised that shit like this could be allowed on tv and that no matter how much freedom fox gives them this is pretty much as subtle as a nuke dropped in a volcano still appeared
Yves - Why would they sue? The Simpsons is a FOX show! And Matt Groening didn't even make this couch gag. No, their agreement with FOX was that their executives could not censor anything he chose to put in the Simpsons. Most tv show channels can choose to cut content if they believe it to be offending viewers, are not advertiser-friendly, or for whatever other reason. Matt Groening wanted full control over his show because the entire premise of The Simpsons is that they critique everything in life. You can't be mocking controversial events/societal norms if you have a hand tied behind your back. You need free speech to do that.
Fox has actually tried to sue the Simpsons once, the judge threw it out because they own the Simpsons, and were supposedly verifying that each episode was up to their standards before they aired it.
The Simpsons isn't what it used to be but that isn't a bad thing. Maybe the show hasn't changed all that much but the viewers may have. Simpsons and Banksy are both great and still inspirational to artists and animators, even if some out-spoken, over critical viewers think otherwise. This opening is awesome!
Do you know what they could do with the Simpsons opening titles? After the choir sings The Simpsons they could add Homer's voice saying "Hey, shut up you clouds!, we know who we are, don't make me come up there!" That would be a bit more amusing! lol.
This is an awesome intro by Banksy who is also a highly talented artist! For anyone who is unaware what this is all about, it's a commentary on the poor working conditions and treatment of both humans and animals in South East Asia. This intro was not meant as an insult to anyone from Asia, it was meant as a jab at large corporations like 20th Century Fox (who own rights to the Simpsons and all of the Simpsons merchandise) for exploiting the Chinese and the South Koreans by getting them to work long hours and for low pay, and in the case of merchandise coming from China; it is often from forced labor camps where they pay workers nothing and make them work long hours, or it's from sweatshops where they endure poor working conditions and such low pay that they can only ever afford to keep themselves alive to work again the next day, rather than being able to improve their living conditions and work their way out of poverty. The executive producer of the show was asked a few questions by NY Times, one of those questions was: Q: has Banksy’s criticism made you reconsider any of the ways you do things at “The Simpsons” in terms of producing the show or its merchandise? A: I have to say, it’s very fanciful, far-fetched. None of the things he depicts are true. That statement should be self-evident, but I will emphatically state it. This is why I'm guessing they added a Unicorn in the animation, in order to add a bit of light comedy and influence people to believe it's all just fanciful for comedy. I too love the Simpsons and I believe they have many talented and hilarious writers, however the ethos of their merchandise and other practices are highly questionable and we as viewers and fans should demand better from 20th Century Fox and all of the producers of the Simpsons merchandise who purchase rights to use the label and then buy forced labor and sweatshop products from them, and for those of you who feel uncertain as to the credibility of Banksy's intro simply watch these videos available on RU-vid: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UpqgSsH_1KY.html, 101 East - China's animal crusaders, have a good day! :)
And sooooo realistic because pandas pull wagons, unicorns are real, an animal grows the polyster fluff for dolls and some tongue from a head makes tape stick onto boxes. The people parts might be slightly real like all mind numbing factory work. Pretty stupid, actually.
@@umagnovenju I do know where they are made. I've been following the series since it first started. This vid, and my comment, were just for humour - not as a source of info
20th Century Fox produced shows often take swipes at their production company. Family Guy are notorious for it and The Simpsons had done it many times even before them. 20th Century Fox (now Disney) don't care, they make even more money from the controversy.
Mad props to the Simpsons for sending out a strong message about becoming more educated consumers. They had the guts to make jokes about junk products with their own brand on them.
Fun fact: since, unlike most guest animators, Bansky didn't animate this himself, ironically, this couch gag was animated by a bunch of South Korean workers who, reportedly, were not happy, insisting that, no, they actually work in pretty standard offices and not some cruel sweatshop. Some even acused the gag of being racist.
HighSkiez I think your misunderstanding, I get a lot of this is exaggerated...Mostly. What I'm am asking is are a majority of cartoons made in sweatshops in developing or corrupt nations?
I know the simpsons was originally put animated in Japan. Well, by originally, I mean when it first came out at a half hour show. Not sure if it is. But at that time and still today Japan isn't really known for sweatshops or being a developing country. Can't really speak for other shows though. Japanese animators actually assumed that because of the way Smithers was treated by Mr Burns, that he was a black man which is why he's black in season 1.
Rob white Just think of it, imagine if a kid saw where cartoons are made, and this is where they are sent to, I'm pretty sure they wouldn't watch cartoons anymore
+KobeJaxxx Dark and a bit unsavory to make fun of the lower wage talent for this show. Though Simpson's is known for irreverent humor…so it fits. But, just…WOW!?
Couldn't agree more. This is exactly what's going on in North Korea. Fuck that piece of shit communist country! Still can't believe Korea is still at war
Doppsta Loco Actually, it's not China nor is it North Korea but it is South Korea. Kenny Lee is right to an extent, this sequence was inspired by reports that Twentieth Century Fox sends out some of their animation for The Simpsons to a company in South Korea. Outsourcing in this way would mean episodes could be mass produced more cheaply. All of that is legit info from a AQA A Level Media Studies exam paper.
SERIOUSLY, PLEASE TELL ME THIS TRACK WAS RELEASED SOMEWHERE!!! it's just one of the most wonderful song I ever heard in my life and I can't find anything about it...
Cartoon Network did a "How animations are made" sorta thing, and they revealed that they send their animatics/storyboards to Korea and they hand draw every frame as well. The facility in the video looked way nicer than this, but still haha
I've been watching some of the newer episodes of The Simpsons, they may of lost a bit of their classic touch, but I still found it rather funny. The Simpsons will change but never get old.
Well this was a depressing punch in the gut. I just watched the episode for this and I was not expecting this. I expected some goofy scene with Homer but then BOOM! Here this is.
Madama Onyx this is reality face it i know animators and often their work is exported to mexico or korea what is shown here isn't even a fraction of the horrible things going on across the world
