i don't know how many times i've watched this one but the edited intro where it's just all the same pic of selma and moe kissing kills me every damn time
April Fool's Day has gotten too commercial. It used to be about the romance. Now it's all about buying mirrors, ladders, and black cats for your loved ones. Bah humbug.
Kids these days, they like to do these pranks, which gives em brain damage, what with their slippin and their sloppin and their rippin and their roppin
Jims only wants Selmoe to happen because "Bart Sells His Soul" is his favorite episode. If Moe marries Selma, he'd be the kids "Uncle Moe", and therefore, every episode with them going forward would be an "Uncle Moe" episode, just like Bart Sells His Soul.
@@mikebottomlesspitdunham2954 THAT'S why they never did it! If Moe was any closer to the Simpsons family, he would know exactly who is prank calling and they want to keep that running joke going
I'll be honest, a series where you analyze possible ships and how they work could be interesting. You actually sold me on this. It wouldn't kill them to at least give them ONE episode. They already made an episode about Selma and grandpa, nothing is too weird after that.
moe does like mige but they have done the Selma date thing way too many times..i always liked how she chooses a life of honesty with jub jub as a true ending to her arc with troy...but thats just me...it fits...weirdly..then again im a total sucker for edna and skinner cause well it was built up so well over time as both get more lonely not really apparent right away took seasons to build upon it...I dont hate ned but like they didnt build him and edna up together as much...then again I didnt like killing maude in the first place
@@razkable I much agree. Killing Maude was a stupid decision which inevitably led to Jerkass Homer and which should have been rectified, much like killing Dr. Nick in the movie. Ned also doesn't work at all with Krabappel, their characters really don't match particularly well. I personally think they did it to keep Skinner as the manchild he currently is. Skinner ending up with Edna could have led to him abandoning his mother and possibly readopting his marine persona, but clearly the writers love placing him as purely incompetent to contrast with Bart, Lisa and Chalmers. Personally though, I find dumb Skinner as something to be rectified as well, along with Principal and the Pauper if that's still canon.
Is Ling the most underused character in the series? I keep forgetting she exists. Many times when we see Selma after that adoption episode, Ling isn't even seen or mentioned.
Another stupid episode that they couldn’t even be bothered to keep much continuity with that, I feel like the only reason she ever, ever has appeared again is because she’s so tacked on she can just appear, if another character was required for her to appear you would never ever see her I guarantee it
Damn, as a person that's never ventured passed the Golden Era of the show, I had no idea that Selma even adopted a baby. That's what I get for only watching the same 8 or so seasons. Doesn't seem like I'm missing much, though.
Tbh I think Moe's attraction to Midge might be less to do with the allure of the Bouvier ladies, and more just the fact that she's Homer's wife. Most of the clientele in Moe's Bar are chronically single. There's an episode where they're all talking about what they'd ask for if they had one wish, and several of the guys (including Moe) claim that their one wish would be "an ironed shirt". And yeah, I know, these guys should be doing their own ironing, regardless of relationship status, but it still reflects a general desire to have someone care for and about them that is currently lacking in their lives. Moe's is a dive bar. His customers go to him so he can help them forget how lonely and miserable their lives are. And then there's Homer. Who has a charming and beautiful wife who loves him with all her heart, and three kids who are all desperate for his love and attention, but who spends all his time at Moe's Bar *anyway*, complaining about his perfect life and dodging his obligations as a husband and father, confident that his family will still be there when he finally deigns to stagger home for dinner. Moe is to Homer in terms of personal relationships what Frank Grimes was to Homer professionally. He tries much harder than Homer does to make his romantic partners feel loved (and is often more affectionate with the Simpsons kids when they are left in his care) but ultimately has to stand back and watch this loutish oaf land everything Moe has ever wanted, despite doing nothing to earn it. Moe's attraction to Marge is a manifestation of his resentment of Homer somehow managing to stay in a relationship with her.
I love this, this sounds like a “final Season” story to wrap up some of the characters stories, Like when Zoidberg got a Girlfriend in the second-last episode.
Alright fan-fiction writers we have a new ship. Now go make the best way to get these two together. Because I'm scared it won't happen before the series end.
Easy; Selma has been struggling still with her loneliness, and has been finding it difficult to fully bond with Ling for years, as she has often reminded her of her failure to start a family before she lost the chance. Patty is moving on with her life since coming out as a lesbian, which only further reminds Selma that she is alone and will stay alone. She talks to Marge, but Marge only advises her to get out there and look for a man, but Selma points out that she’s done that; she’s been married so many times but all of these marriages have failed. As Marge has no more advice to give, Selma gives up and leaves, walking through town until she reaches Moe’s. Feeling depressed, she heads inside for a drink. Moe, shocked by her turning up, talks to her, while Homer mocks her from the side. Selma seethes from bitterness, but Moe defends her, understanding her feelings, and even talks about how he’s felt that way, when they’re more alone. Selma and Moe begin to bond on a newer level, while Homer fears that them becoming close could result in him seeing Selma every time he goes to the bar. Homer begins scheming to separate them, such as getting Bart to prank call Moe, then put Selma on the phone so Moe threatens her, but Selma just finds these over the top insults and threats amusing. As their relationship deepens, Moe and Selma admit to each other that they had only settled for each other in the past out of desperation, but now that they are connecting on another level, their shared loneliness, things are beginning to change and real feelings are developing. Selma decides to introduce Moe to Ling, but Homer sabotages this event somehow, causing Moe to wreck Selma’s apartment in caring for Ling. Selma cuts things off with Moe, and the two become very depressed, which makes Homer feel guilty, and he admits to Selma that it was his fault, not Moe’s, and that if they make each other happy, then maybe it’s worth it that they stay together, reminded how Selma was the one who put Marge’s happiness first when he left before Bart was born. Selma goes to Moe’s and apologises for cutting things off, and asks Moe if he wants to try things over again. Over time, Moe forms a bond with Ling, which helps Selma to bond with Ling, too, and they form their own little family. Selma leaves her unhappy job at the DMV to work at Moe’s bar, and although she never comes to like Homer, she becomes less abrasive to him, and their relationship becomes more banterous, as they remain thankful for each other for helping each other find happiness. Selma and Moe are a little dysfunctional as a couple and fight often, but their mutual respect and care for each other always brings them back together and mends their relationship after time.
I like the idea of them getting together. I kinda believe they both have/had ugly personalities. Their redemption in wanting to be beautiful and rich results in learning that beauty beyond skin level and love is better than money.
YES! Joke or not, those two deserve to be happy and they do seem like a great match. They don't even have to get married. They could just be partners. I know several couples who forego marriage and just enjoy each other's company and are doing better than the marriages I watched crumble over the years. Maybe they get along so well that Selma is afraid that marriage would ruin it. Maybe marriage would come around if Moe was caught in something and Selma married him just so she didn't have to give testimony in court against him. I dunno.
For being a video posted on April Fools, this video is quite interesting. Given time and dedication I’m sure Selmoe would be a worthwhile relationship that brings out the best in them. Plus it would help break the status quo, since with Selma being engaged with Moe she would visit his bar, and by being at the Bar it could also open up the idea that Homer could quit drinking. I do hope that this relationship comes to pass one day.
I know 80% of his screen time is setup or punchline for something, but I actually like Moe in general. Yeah he's a shady asshole character, but there's such a damaged and unhappy person in there... and when he IS the good guy he does it so well and with such gleeful panache. God bless you Mr. Szyslak you evil, broken, beautiful, soulful loser.
Moe in the early seasons was a good character, unlike today where he's portrayed as being an overly dramatic loser that wants to commit suicide in every episode.
I feel the same about Selma. We see plenty of nasty Selma, but when we get a positive Selma episode, she seems to be quite a warm, kind hearted person underneath her bitterness and cynicism. The fact that Selma felt guilty about breaking up Homer and Marge, was basically browbeaten into hiding it by Patty but still put her hatred for Homer to one side for Marge’s sake has eternally endeared her to me and I feel like I want to see more of THAT Selma.
I really like this pairing. It makes so much sense that it’s surprising they haven’t gone this direction with it. They probably just want to keep jerking Moe around and making Selma’s last name as long as possible.
Last night my partner and I were watching the season 9 episode where Moe dates a woman, and my partner made a reference to Moe and Selma going out in an episode but she couldn't remember (she eventually found it and it's season 22). This is some spectacular timing, it's like you're watching my life and making videos on it.
There was a funny coincidence when writing this because I've been rewatching Season 22 lately and totally forgot about that Moe/Selma yogurt date until just then. Went back and updated my script.
I've always imagined in a future episode Artie ziff comes back and he actually proposes to Selma saying that they've been having a relationship during his time in prison
I never stooped to think about the similarities between their arcs and never really thought of them as a possible couple. But now that you have pointed it out, I can never accept and end to Moe and Selma other than Selmoe. Baby Daddy Moe is the best and Selmommy is the only time Selma is cute. Also I totally see the Crazy, Worrisome, Weird, Awesome, disfunctional, Hot, Innapropriate, totally fun couple thing hapenning, it would embarrassed the shhh outta the kids, make Midge so proud, happy and uncomfortable, while getting on all kinds of Homie's nerves. Oh god it would be amazing. I ship 100%
This is the first video I've actually laughed at in a long time, that same Selmoe picture appearing over and over with your usual inquisitive music was just so funny. Also, you've sold me on Selmoe legit, I now want them together. Also also, that Fire Emblem reference caught me off guard so hard.
there was a scrapped episode about them getting together it got leaked somewhere but it must have been deleted off whatever site i found it on because i can't find it anymore (i found it years ago)
I feel like theyd be an interesting foil to Marge in the sense that Marge & Homer "like" (or at least engage in) thid facade of an functionally traditional middle class family when internally they are constantly having falling outs. Their "dysfunctionality" i always saw as a big deal with how they are portrayed past season 7 or so, when Homer becomes more stupid, impulsive and agressive and Marge as being more preoccupied with appearances and such. That was a whole thing, making fun of the traditional american nuclear family after all. Then you look at Selma & Moe. Both hold unglamorous jobs, have had troublesome romantic lives, are considered aesthetically unpleasing, are generally cranks, and Selma doesnt even have a biological daughter. And yet! I think showing them as being really loving and caring for each other is a very interesting dynamic. Like the unsavory couple being ironically more "in love" as it were. Itd be i guess more similar to how The Addams Family makes this weird, creepy family actually be more loving and caring than their "normal" colleagues.
I just want to say that although I generally couldn't care less about character shipping, I love this video and it almost made me convinced that this relationship should actually happen in the show. Good job! Also, that fake opening (first mimicking the beginning your Rod and Todd video and then parodying the Simpsons Mysteries opening sequence with just one repeated image) is possibly the funniest inside joke on this channel so far (though it's a tough competition between this and the one about Marge's previous experiences with drinking birds).
This actually is a very clever idea. I could see a few good stories coming out of it. I’m actually much more into crossovers myself but they’re not for everyone. Anyways do what you want with Moe, but yes I agree that those suicide jokes need to stop at some point! Give Moe a story that’s genuinely happy! I would love to see that!
Ok, now i *need* a video about Ike's ships from you, that would be amazing haha Still great job on this one, i just found your channel some days ago and i have been bingewatching your videos like crazy, thank you!
I wonder how the writers would use the tavern in this relationship. Moe’s is Homer’s place to unwind and unload, so would they keep Selma away to preserve this dynamic, or throw her into some of those scenes to shake things up?
I think I am in the minority but I liked the Rome-old and Juli-eh episode where Grampa married Selma, not for the marriage of course. But for the epic fight with the UPS company and fort building with Bart and Lisa.
Real talk: In the height of the original run this couple could've totally worked out. Wouldn't work nowadays because modern simpsons wouldn't let it be as edgy as it would need to be.
Shipping, Jims, SHIPPING!!! You are going down a dark road, my man. I would stop you, but, when you showed interest in Fire Emblem shipping, I knew it was too late to save you. Take this thumbs-up, may it be your guide as you head down the path of fictional romance.
I think that Moe and Selma being less miserable would make them less interesting. I really hated what they did to Comicbook Guy. His obsessive bitterness loses its bite now that he's got this unrealistically perfect marriage.
i didn’t even think this video was from you at first ... i thought i had just been watching so much simpsons content that youtube began to recommend me videos from the weird side of the fanbase. and then i saw you uploaded it and actually started making the pairing plausible 😭😭 you have a true talent
Actually this would or would have been good for the series and the characters. Similar thing to what happened with Edna and Flanders and bringing Moe more into the greater Simpsons family. *Brings up Ike* Ike x Ragnell...or Ike x Food. Those are consistently backed up, with him actually showing love openly, ships for him.... and avoids the arguments of failing to truly disprove others stances that happen.
Honestly, about Ike, Consider it canon or not, but Awakening did add a layer or sorts to the whole thing by adding in Priam: A man that shares many similar physical traits to Ike, claims to be his descendant and does indeed wield his sword. If you consider Priam to be canon and all he said to be true, then it does mean Ike probably made out with a woman at some point. Priam never comments about who that could be, but still.
@@ohnoitschris not really, the whole Tharja and Rhajat thing is just Fire Emblem Fates being Fire Emblem Fates. (I.e the fanfic.net tier writing disaster it is)
i got that this is an April Fools thing, but this was super interesting. I'd definitely watch more about romances between side and minor characters in the Simpsons.
I lobe your Simpson videos and I thought it was because I loved the Simpsons but it turns out it's the BGM too. I hear Zelda sometimes but this one has Balrog's theme, my favorite theme from SF2.
"Moema" is totally what the ship should be called! Remember this gem from the Marge Cop episode "The Springfield Connection"? Homer: "This police radio entertains me with other people's miseries, we get a free funeral for Marge (God forbid), and I can run background checks on whomever I want! [to Moe] -- Mohammar." Moe: "Homer, please! Please, ixnay on the ohammar-May." "Mohammar" (the way Homer says it "Moemar") sounds CLOSE to the hypothetical "Moema" of the Moe/Selma ship.
I kinda wish the series went in this direction instead of bringing back Maya, mostly because they did nothing to justify her returning to Moe, and haven't done anything with her since.
It took me way longer to catch on to the April fools thing than I’d like to admit... you’ve put more effort on this than I put into my school work ahaha
I feel like a sort early simpson style drama would have worked well for them, where Homer, who retreats to Moe's Tavern to relax and let loose, has to be on guard at all times now lest Selma get embarrassing secrets out of moe with her "womanly wiles", but he can't get anyone on his side since Marge is overjoyed about how happy Selma is and how much less Homer drinks, but Moe eventually cracks, claiming that its his job as a barman to not gossip about his patrons, and says that for every embarrassing secret Selma gets out of him, Homer gets one of her embarrassing secrets she confides in him when he rubs her feet, both Selma and Homer are willing to do that until Moe whispers to each one what he would tell the other, final scene is the two of them happily married, and Homer drunkenly revealing all the stuff Moe whispered in his ear anyway during his Best Man's speech.
i know this is a joke, but its unironically a good pairing simply from the points he brought up seriously analyzing the compassionate nature of moe and other points about selma. A well structured joke that could feasibly work within the show. Nice work and great vid
I saw this, and I thought for a moment this was going to farce episode for April Fools. I was really hoping it wasn't and, to my surprise, I was right! I really dig this episode and this just made my day just a little bit better
