This was the first night with MomoMetal as the new official member, the night prior to this they're wearing the old battle dress from Metal Galaxy era while in this you can see them with the new iridiscent costume. MomoMetal (Momoko Okazaki) was one of the three avengers (or backup dancers part of the lore) since 2019, remember YuiMetal (former member now) left the group in 2018 officially. We all proud of MomoMetal being finally part of this group and now she got the mic unlike previous performances, also she and MoaMetal are in charge of certain chorus section of the songs so they can sing too. There is an official visualizer with the album studio sound released the same day in October and you can see only the two of them back then, these new shows on DVD/BD they're promoting are part of this historical event when MomoMetal was crowned as the third official member. Tickets for Legend MM (arena-sized concerts) next March cost between $120 and $150. To summarize the "third spot" thing: - Yui left officially in 2018 after being absent for a year (since October 2017) due to undisclosed health issues. - In 2018 they performed as a duo changing all the choreo. It didn't went well. They eventually returned to the triangle formation with Saya Hirai on the third spot in December 2018 during a tour in Singapore and Australia. - In 2019 they introduced a system with three girls, called the Avengers, rotating in and out to cover the third spot. They were: Riho Sayashi, Kano Fujihira and Momoko Okazaki. - In 2020 the world stopped while they were on tour. In 2021 (January to April) they performed 10 shows at the famous Nippon Budokan stadium to celebrate their 10th anniversary with strict anti-covid policies. At that point, the only "avenger" available was Momoko. - In October 2021 they went on hiatus for undefined time. They eventually resumed activities one year later, in October 2022. - On April 1st 2023 they announced the addition of Momoko as an official member, under the stage name Momometal. Good reaction - you already have lots of info and time line explanations in the comments (I'll see if I have anything that hasn't been said already). 'The Other One' is their 4th studio album ('BABYMETAL' 2014, 'Metal Resistance' 2016 and 'Metal Galaxy' 2019 were the first three). The Other One is a concept album with 10 songs they supposedly discovered in alternative realities or parallel worlds during their 12 month-ish hiatus - so it is a sort of interim project between the third and the "real" fourth albums. BABYMETAL Begins, Black Night and Clear Night were the two concerts they performed at the PIA MM Arena in Yokohama on 1st (Black Night) and 2nd (Clear Night) April this year where they played all the songs from this latest album ... and where, after Su and Moa had been performing as a duo supported by dancers for 4-5 years after Yui last performed in October 2017 and left in October 2018, they revealed that Momoko Okazaki who had been supporting them as a dancer since 2019, is the official new third member Momometal. Clear Night was Momometal's first concert as an official member and her first with the headset mic so she could finally also sing along with Su and Moa.
Saw them in Toronto at the end of September and it was a fairly small venue of 5000 max - 11 songs all full energy like this. Some of them have instrumental intros and such to give them a break but the energy never really stops.
Loving that you guys are getting into Babymetal. I've only recently been introduced to them and believe me they are addictive. FYI: I did read somewhere recently that Sumetal (Lead singer) actually practices her vocals on a treadmill to help enable her flawless delivery while moving and jumping and well you know. Fun stuff, keep it up. Oh yeah. The singer/dancer on the left Momometal is the replacement for Yuimetal who left for health reasons. And both she and Moametal, singer/dancer on the right do sing.
On the European tour they are doing right now, a General Admission ticket costs about 46€ A vip goes around 120€ They really have most of really high energy songs, so they usually mix in 1 or 2 kind of slower songs, like Monochrome, and do some crowd interaction to breath and make people breath. They sometimes also make the band do an instrumental solo to rest, nowadays before the song Metali. That's also partially the reason why their shows are usually only about 1h long. Babymetal created a new genre, that they called Kawaii Metal "The Other One"" is the name of their 4th album, and the Black Night and Clear Night were 2 consecutive nights of a show they did earlier this year! Their first album was self named, simply called "Babymetal"
FYI Su for this song has writing credits to it. the other two have sang but not recently. they do back up singing. so much history for Babymetal. maybe react to the guide to Babymetal from Cryptic Mysery, the 44 minute long video, describing the history of Babymetal how they started and so forth.
As others have said, they all sing, although Su is primarily the main singer. rah2287 gave some links with Moa singing, or you could check out older Black BABYMETAL songs with Yui and Moa singing. From end of 2017 until April this year it was just Su and Moa, but now that Momo is officially the new third member and they have a end of tour show coming up in March called 'LEGEND MM' we are all anticipating Momo to get some kind of lead vocal part or something to let her shine since it's kind of been their thing to do with "LEGEND' shows since they usually deal with a member's birthday/special event.
Nice reaction. Yui left in 2018. Later they used three dancers in her spot. One of them was Momoko. Momoko earlier this year was promoted to full official member. As Su and Moa have said Yui is family to Babymetal and will always be a part of Babymetal. Meaning Momoko is not replacing her but by joining Babymetal makes them something new. Thus, starting the new era of Babymetal. To put it simply think of it as VanHalen with David Lee Roth and VanHalen with Sammy Hagar. And now we can't chat about this song without talking about Su getting writing lyric credits for this song. Su a long time ago said she wanted to be a singer song writer. And now she is. Yeah!!! Babymetal took a break and then covid happened extending their break. The Other One is their new album that came out earlier this year. Seems mostly full of songs they didn't get to put out before covid. Since they added a new member. Us fans are hoping a new album comes along with that. Momoko is not on the recordings for The Other One album. She is on Metali. Which came as a surprise single release in the middle of their tour. Where do they find the time? Babymetal has been doing a lot of shows this year. Like they're trying to make up for lost time during covid. And have already started announcing shows for next year. Lastly, they all do sing. Su is the lead singer and does the bulk of the work. However, you can her Moa and Momo doing back vocals and harmonies during their live shows this year. Also, back when Yui was still with them. Answers to your many questions: This was filmed at "Babymetal Begins - The Other One: Black Night & Clear Night" on April 1st and 2nd this year in Yokohama, so this is a very recent performance. The names "Black Night" and "Clear Night" refer to the two nights of the show, so "Black Night" was the first show on April 1st, and "Clear Night" was the second show on April 2nd. The two nights had different setlists, and different things happened during the performances. "The Other One" is the name of their most recent album, which came out in January this year. As you mentioned, Babymetal began when the girls were very young. When Babymetal started in 2010, Su-metal was 12, and Yuimetal and Moametal were just ten years old. If you want to see what they looked like in the early days, check out the music video of the song "Doki Doki Morning" Regarding singing, they all do vocals, but Su-metal (the one in the middle with the mic) is the primary vocalist, she does about 80% of the vocals for their songs. Moametal and Momometal (and previously Yuimetal) provide additional vocals, harmonies, and have a handful songs of their own. When Moametal and Yuimetal sing together without Su-metal they are called "Black Babymetal"; their songs are "Onedari Daisakusen", "GJ", "Sis Anger", and "4 No Uta". Yuimetal retired from Babymetal due to illness in 2018. For the next five years, Babymetal continued as a duo of just Su-metal and Moametal, with unnamed backing dancers filling in Yui's old spot for the dance routines. There were three backing dancers who were known as "Avengers" that filled in for different shows; they were Riho Sayashi, Kano Fujihira, and Momoko Okazaki. Riho and Kano only performed for a relatively short time (2019-2020), before they moved on to other projects, but Momoko stayed on, and was the only Avenger for the past couple of years. Earlier this year at the concert where this was filmed, Momoko officially became a member of Babymetal and was granted the name Momometal. This concert was at PIA Arena MM in Yokohama, and the crowd for the show was 10,000 each night. Tickets were ¥15,000 for a regular seat or moshpit ticket, and ¥20,000 for a supermosh ticket. The thing with Babymetal shows in Japan is that you can't just buy a ticket to see them, you have to enter a lottery just to win the chance to buy a ticket. For international fans, there is only a small allocation of tickets made available for each show. I was one of about 50 international fans that was lucky enough to be there. Each of these headline shows in Japan is a one-off bespoke performance that is never repeated again. It's worth noting that the show they take on tour is not as spectacular as what you see in these videos, they have to scale it down for the sake of portability. In the past, Babymetal called their particular blend of metal and J-pop "kawaii metal" (cute metal), but these days when they are asked what genre they are, they just say "Babymetal". Their sound is so unique that there is really nothing else quite like them. There are other groups that have attempted to replicate what they do with varying degrees of success, and the genre more generally is sometimes referred to as "idol metal".

Su (age 12), Moa (age 11), and Yui (age 11) are original members. 2012: Kami Band joins Babymetal for first time, but only plays live for them partially (due to lack of money). 2013: Babymetal becomes a huge success within Japan, and Su graduates from Sakura Gakuin, but continues Babymetal. 2014: Kami Band becomes Babymetal’s full time live band for all their shows. The song Gimme Chocolate goes viral internationally and Babymetal performs for 1st time at a major metal festival outside of Japan at Sonisphere UK, propelling them to the world stage, followed by their first world tour. 2015: Moa and Yui graduates from Sakura Gakuin, and Babymetal continues as an independent act. 2017: Yui metal stops performing due to health, but remained on the roster. Su and Moa continues as a duo. 2018: Yui announces her departure from band in Oct. 2019: Guitarist Mikio Fujioka passes due to accident (RIP). Su and Moa are joined by 3 “Avengers” (no mics) rotating in to the 3rd spot (Momoko being 1 of the 3). Kami Band west (4 Americans) joins Babymetal to assist with tour intensity, and Babymetal releases 3rd album. 2020: Babymetal world tour stops due to Covid. 2021: Babymetal celebrated “10 years of Babymetal” with 10 shows at Budokan, then goes on hiatus. 2023: Babymetal returns from hiatus, releases the 4th, concept album, “The Other Ones”. Babymetal invented this genre. But there are other groups that do similar things now. Probably Broken by the Scream and Passcode are the most similar. Dreamcatcher brought it to Korea. I think Hanabie is similar in style but they are a different kind of group. They are a real band. Hanabie is actually more influenced by Maximum the Hormone. But they're cute and heavy so superficially similar. I think Atarashii Gakko is similar to Babymetal too. But they aren't metal. What i like about Atarashii Gakko is that their dance choreography is unique and hilarious. They aren't afraid to look silly. And their lead singer Suzuka is a superstar. I've seen fancams of her climbing into the audience and dancing on the fence that seperates the crowd from the stage. She's the most confident performer i think I've ever seen.

They invented the genre of Kuwaii Metal (meaning "Cute Metal" in Japanese - a fusion of pop and metal). I left this before but will do again if you wish to understand more. (Below) BabyMetal began in 2010 there were Suzuka Nakamoto age 12 Moa Kikuchi and Yui Mizuno. Both Moa and Yui were 11 years old All three girls were friends and classmates who attended an idol group (Sakura Gakuin) founded in 2010 by Amuse Talent Agency for girls 10 to 15. Themed around school life (they attended regular school as well) the girls would learn and train at vocals, dancing, public speaking and etiquette, etc., graduate at age 15 and then move onto whatever entertainment path they chose or that suited their talents. Key Kobayashi was a music producer for Amuse and heard Suzuka sing at age 9 and was impressed with her strong vocals and stage presence. Kobayashi was a fan of heavy metal but believed that the genre had become stale and tired (especially in Japan) with metal bands getting old Kobayashi believed the genre needed to be reborn (BabyMetal means the birth of a new metal genre). Kobayashi felt that Suzuka had the ability to front a metal band and that her vocals and presence could withstand the metal guitars and drums. The fusion of Jpop and Metal began. He placed Moa and Yui as backup singers/dancers and a phenomenon was about to result. At first Amuse showed no interest and the girls had only financing from Kobayashi. They performed at strip malls and small venues using clothes borrowed from friends and family. No money for a real band they had friends dressed in homemade skeleton costumes pretending to play instruments to a backtrack. They became a sensation (these young ladies paid their dues). Amuse saw the potential and in 2012 hired the best session musicians Japan had to offer (The Kami Band) who tours with them today (now includes world class musicians from the USA for tours outside of Asia).
