Darin was a VERY SPECIAL entertainer. He was almost otherworldly talented as a cabaret performer, vocalist, musician, actor, comedian, composer, etc. Most of all, he could sing anything and make it his own: pop, jazz, R&B, C&W, folk-rock, etc. Had Darin lived to be eighty-five years old (like Sinatra) he would have blown by Frank and everyone else. As Sammy Davis, Jr. said: "He was that damned good!" He dripped with charisma and style.

Bobby had it ALL. Far and above Sinatra. Bobby made each song his own by putting his personal stamp on it. We have nobody even close to the talented Bobby Darin amongst our singers now. More so the pity But we have his legacy of music and for that I am most grateful.

Yours is simply YOUR opinion, not fact. Never forget that! Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but many people are WAY off in left field as to what they say or think, but, it takes all kinds to make a world, good or bad. Frequently, your opinion is SOLELY based on what you see, think and feel AT THE TIME and can be changed down the line when you get smarter! Happens all thee time!

I'm a longtime Darin admirer. There is an even better version of him performing this song on the DVD Seeing Is Believing, as the recording is much better, and seeing Bobby perform is amazing; no one could best him on stage. He was electric. I recommend that DVD to anyone who wants to see the full Darin experience.

Bobby Darin's charisma and style is far superior to that which Sinatra thought he had. No contest there. Bobby could do it all and did so in his but ever so short life. Multi talented, plus such a genius on top it off. Give Bobby a song, he put his own stamp on it making it his own, so richly deserved. Bobby leaves today's so called singers way out in the cold, this is music, real music. Bobby is blessed with God given talents most of us can only dream of, he had it all and some.
@MJLeger-yj1ww

Who is "far superior" is simply the opinion of the writer, never proven or the general consensus of opinion! Many small groups have an opinion that they believe is fact, merely because they are not exposed much to anything else! As they say, "to each his own" but there is a LOT of fallacy following that belief!!

True, but Sinatra came first! Both were great talents, but they never "dueted!" People can (and will) splice tapes and do many things to create something and make it seem real, worse yet, people often believe what they see or hear -- gullible, or wishful thinking, doesn't matter! It's all to get the pubic (you) to listen and watch (so they can get you to subscribe and make money!)

Bobby accomplished more in his 37 years as an entertainer than Frank could have ever dreamed of, and Frank lived over double the lifespan of Bobby. Frank did his thing, but did not possess the diversity and versatility of Darin. Bobby recorded music in just about every single genre you or anyone else can name (rock, jazz, blues, R&B, pop, standards, big band, swing, country western, folk, funk, soul, gospel, and hip hop before it even existed under that name). And on top of that he was a prolific songwriter, producer, arranger, multi instrumentalist, actor, comedic impressionist, storyteller, entrepreneur, tv show presenter, and the list goes on and on. There is only one thing I can do when people compare Bobby and Frank. And that’s laugh 😂… Bobby Darin very well may have been the greatest entertainer of the 20th century.

Cool clips! But for the record, the Darin recording is from a live show in Lake Tahoe, 1968, at time when Darin was using a lot of Motown-influenced sounds, as one can here in this clip. Safe to say, its quite different than Sinatra's, who never changed his arrangement of this song, using Nelson Riddle's till his last complete concert. Respect? Both had it for each other. Similar versions?Not so much.Darin's ego (rightfully so) would never do that-he was original,always-both did it "their" way!

I just knew it couldn't be a duet together, but I checked anyway. You see I've been trying to find something, anything when Sinatra has ever complemented Darin, and I can't, and funerals don't count! And I don't think Frank would ever sing next to Darin 'cause his ego could NEVER take the hit! From what I could see and it ain't much, Frank was envious of Bobby. I don't give a damn what anyone says, he was flat out jealous of Darin to the point, he mentioned once that Bobby Rydell seems to be the best of that group, meaning the teen idols. Now I like Bobby Rydell too, but come on Frank! He had this thing against Darin for some remark that he should've took as a huge compliment. And that is something or other where Darin said something like, I want to be bigger than Sinatra. How petty is that? But if anyone can tell me if and when Sinatra made any decent comment about Darin please let me know. Thanks

NO! Frank and Bobby never sang together, both were very talented, Frank with nearly a 60-year career, and Bobby, who sadly left us at age 37 before he could give us all that he could do, but he certainly made his time here shine! Two wonderful artists.

If we talk about immense artistic talent in various sectors, incredible voice, sympathy, elegance, class and sexy appeal, obviously Bobby Darin is clearly superior. If we talk about the ability to hold a glass of whiskey in hand, or mafia friendships, or how to be a piece of wood on stage obviously Sinatra wins.

Bobby accomplished more in his 37 years as an entertainer than Frank did in over double the lifespan. That’s simply a fact. Frank did his thing, but rarely left his comfort zone. Bobby recorded music in just about every single genre you or anyone else can name. @@timetowakeup6302 actually Frank Sinatra too was an oscar winning actor, conductor, song writer , entrepreneur. Look it up. Frank switched his style at least thrice throughout his career. Let's not compare artists and accept it when someone is better.

@@nilanjana_ Sinatra wasn’t a legitimate songwriter. Not even close. In fact he was given 7 “co-songwriting” credits in his entire career. Even Elvis had those. They mean nothing. It was probably done as a favor. Listen, you can like Frank more than Bobby, that’s your choice. But to compare them as overall entertainers and musicians, and pretend that Frank could hold a candle to Bobby is just foolishness and not true. They weren’t even close. Bobby did it ALL. Frank never played an instrument in front of an Audience (although he allegedly played the ukulele, and he couldn’t write a tune to save his life. He didn’t have anywhere close to the overall talent Bobby had. No one did. Do yourself a favor and look more into Bobby’s career. You’ll be amazed.

@@timetowakeup6302 I'm a fool to want you, mistletoe and holly , this love of mine - he co-wrote these songs and composed. No he just didn't steal others works like Elvis, yes I have read where it came from ( source: the books that come with Columbia years recording). No he couldn't play any instrument but he could sing a note better than the nasal tune of bobby who would have to adlib to not embarrass himself since he couldn't sing high notes. I am fan of both. As an entertainer, Bobby Darin was all rounder. He could dance, sing and all that jazz. If you want to stay in the bubble of him being musically talented, you're just ignorant or one of those people that only listens to Frank's my way and new york. Once again, very few knows Darin and Sinatra will always be the legend. You can get mad 😘

Bobby always sang live. The only time he didn’t sing live was if it was for a show that didn’t do live performances because they weren’t equipped, and they would play the pre-recorded tracks of the artist while they mimed. Everyone did that under those conditions. Bobby couldn’t sing high notes? He is hitting tenor F5 notes on the song “Respect” performed live at the desert inn 1971. Frank never sang that high a note in his life, as he was a limited range Baritone. Bobby actually had a greater range than Sinatra, 3 octaves for Bobby compared to only 2 for Frank. Surprised how little you know about your overrated hero, Sinatra. Well now that we’ve dismissed your silly unfounded claims, have a nice day.

Sinatra, Perry Como, Tony Bennet, Darin, Dean Martin, Connie Francis, Vic Damone, Frank Zappa, Lady Gaga, Madonna etc ... they are all singers of Italian origin, but none of them have been booed here except your Sinatra. Obviously you suffer from envy, Italy is renowned for its cuisine, wines, fashion, artistic and cultural heritage that you can only dream of. There is no FBI dossier on Darin while there is on Sinatra, whether you like it or not. However it turns out that you are an arrogant and scurrilous Sinatra fan like him. By the way you know that your dear Sinatra was in prison for rape, the girl was then forced to marry him, becoming his first wife who then cheated with Ava Gardner ... but what a beautiful person. @@agataf1320 Well said, Agata. I heard Frank's singing at the age of five. Heard Sinatra, not knowing 'till years later, "Learning the Blues", only the music had me, too young to know the words. But Bobby was a supreme talent, knowing his time was short, produced an outburst of music, singing, playing, creating and performing. That few, if any, can match. I still miss him. P.S. When "Mack the Knife" was playing on the radio, AM only. I could be outside playing with buddies and knew that song was on on of the three rock stations in the ST. Lois area. I would run to the radio, dial each station and then find the song playing! Never thought much about it until years later, a psychic phenomena, I suppose.
