Follow up note: I have confirmed with Elaine that pretty much all of my personal issues with the board will be resolved on the second run, so definitely keep an eye out for it
As former Jaguar owner and "La pièce de résistance" enjoyer, I'd like to complement the video with one fact: -The first batch of Black/Units was shipped with faulty plate where the cutout for ISO and split BS was there but not properly dimensionned so unusable unless you were to dremel a 2mm alu plate or use razor blade to carve the PC one. About the vid: You went pretty deep sir Simon and only missed one spot that I can think of ( explained in about the board). I am very pleased. Well worth the wait time. About the board: Watching the video, I got back this envy for the board. It just look unique and stunning. The finishing was the best I ever seen, my black unit was flawless. It's only after the typing test that I remembered that the sound profile of the board is not for me, this exact same typing test that is now bringing back all my nightmares about this keyboard. In reality it is really really far from perfection, for a board at this price and at that time it is not acceptable. The USB port of shame and THE EXTREMELY weak or highly random coating of the weight cannot be aknowledged. How can you choose not to take literally 20min to properly finish the design with a proper USB cutout ? How can you finish a masterpiece of a weight with such a poor protection? Because even for me living in France I had this super fast oxydation going on and being brushed you cannot clean it with special compound nor age it well. It will literally decay overtime. Besides all those questionnable design choices, Elaine really is an awesome person. I am echo that R2 is gonna see some improvements, I didn't know if I was able to tell it but now that Simon revealed it ( :) ).
I’ll never forget the first time I unboxed the Space Grey jag and saw that anodization work. I 100% agree, I’ve never seen anno work as clean as this. Elaine must have worked some serious magic with the hand finishing on these.
Oh and as for the screwdriver head, I noticed that too as soon as I tried to fit the driver head into the slot. Ended up going to my workbench and dremeling the sides of the bit down so it wouldn’t scratch the finish.
great vid also it would be great to see you review either the alexa or the scarlet by makerkeyboards scarlet extras are going up soon and alexa is on gb (and prolly will be for a while) they are both very budget and from what i can see the only thing from keeping the scarlet from being a mid to high tier tkl is a weight but would love to hear your opinion on that
Somewhat unrelated but do you recommend the taobao cherry clip ins on the budget china sheet? Heard you mention $5 china stabs you often build with are those the ones?
Elaine makes very high quality boards, sadly the design just isn't for me. Still very tempting though. As for the ifixit kit, this why i never use drivers with interchangeable bits, always use Wiha sets!
