What a great video..almost my video of the year 2021:) Really comprehensive, systematic, great photography, no stupid music, great graphics, great narrative ..wow..really top notch. So why not video of the year? I just missed the menue and the wine list..seriously..they are a must on such a top notch video. But then..hm..i still rate this one VIDEO OF THE YEAR despite those little shortcomings. And why? You did something i never saw on any other video: the seat map indicating the seats without windows..my most hated seats!!! So great!! How can we get every trip reporter to do this? I admit: also on my vids i never did this, but just for the lack of technical skills (any idea to help me?) . Finally: at 10 am typically we dont have beer in Germany (I like the joke of course)..its just the business people in the LH Senator Lounge, probably..though, there it is 24(24 beer o clock:) PS: your channel name made me think you are a hippy travelling to Goa, hehe. Admittedly, my channel name is even much worse:)
You know, I read your comments and I was thrilled to read such kind words... but then, I looked at your name! I have been a subscriber to your channel (through my personal account) for at least a decade. I've seen every single one of your plate rotations and probably every plate rotation 'tip of the hat' from countless other creators. Honestly, it comes to mind every time I'm served a nice meal on a plane- and that was the inspiration behind adding the seating chart graphics (trying to create my own signature). Thank you for really being a pioneer in this niche which I'm excited to become a part of. For the menus, SQ isn't using paper menus at the moment! All of their menus online can be accessed by anyone. I have J flights on OZ, NH, QR, CX, WY, LA, AA, TK and F flights on NH and CX coming up this year and I look forward to including their menus in some way :) Thank you for your comments and I hope to see more content from you soon!
@@tfft Wow..i am speechless!! What a totally wonderful and sweet comment. I am really grateful for your nice and warm words. I am a big fan of your videos and i hope from now on you will include the seat maps with your annotations in all forthcoming flights. As to myself: i have planned trips on EK (F) and AF..but might postpone them given Covid. And new videos from me? Not sure. I was the pioneer, but since the world moved on there is a whole new generation of video makers like yourself who do it so much better than i ever did and i ever will be able to do. Yes, my gift to the world of aviation has been adopted widely (but they all dont know how to do it lol) ..just as the champagne against the window hehe. Maybe i will do one or two..and be it just for nostalgic reasons for longstanding video friends like you. I hope you had a nice Christmas and i wish you a happy and most above all: healthy 2022!!!
Imagine for a moment, the mystery that are/is RU-vid algorithms and being introduced to this channel on a post-Christmas flightathon in North Eastern Scotland. Behold one extremely informative and entertaining and recent marathon flight all the way around the world. Very impressive not just the SQ product and service but also the quality of the review. Then, then !! Take a scroll through the comments and there is homer3152, the Grand Father, the First, and the pre-eminent pioneer of YT Flight Reviews posting here ! On a channel with a mere 2k subs so far. Long before there was a Chui, a Bunnik, a Cahill, a Trek Trendy, a Stewart, a Points Guy, a Stewart, and a myriad of others, there was and is a homer3152 - the first, the original and still the best giving this Channel Video of the Year ! It's like Martin Scorsese telling you you made a great film. Homer3152 is always going to be my favourite channel, but I have subscribed here. There is a God !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It was indeed a shock- and an honor- to see the comment myself! Still is! 😃 Lot’s of content coming this year, aiming to keep on improving the quality as I go. Thanks for commenting and subscribing 🙏🏻
Excellent narrative and presentation. Probably the best air travel video I have seen so far. No fuss.. no frills.. just what we want to see and experience. And ofcourse loved the voice too. Clear and crisp !
Thanks very much! Have around 50 other flight reviews coming this year and look forward to evolving the style but keeping it to the point as I go. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
That paperwork situation feels like a long time ago. I remember the first time I was able to escape Australia for overseas after Covid in March 2022, I was flying out of Sydney airport on Emirates. I arrived 3.5hr before the flight, but due to the convoluted paperwork checking at check-in, by the time I was done I was literally running for the flight (didn't help that it was an A380). Yet I was so very happy to be on that flight. Regarding the city watching on night flights - I can totally relate!! It's one of my favourite activities too. Unfortunately I could not identify that Saudi city on your video though :).
They’ve recently (end Oct/early Nov) reintroduced the full meal service. Was very nice to have compared to my flights in September. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
I absolutely agree with you! Too often though it’s covered up by cabin announcements or boarding music- but a happy surprise when we can get it loud and clear. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Here's a tip if you want to see the city skyline on final approach. In general, you'll want to be flying into Singapore around winter, and sit on the left. Around summer, you'll want to be sitting on the right, but the view won't be as impressive.
It always comes with a side of turbulence for you. Anyways, I flew SG A380 business class from SIN-LHR way back in 2012 and that was by the best flight experience of my life. During that work/business trip, I went to SIN on United Business Class which was BLAH. However on the SG flight the service from the flight attendant blew me away. I kid you not, everytime she would come by, kneel beside me, place her hand on my arm that was resting on the arm-rest and addressed me "Mr Ip" and asked if I need a drink or whatever the service was. The first time that she did it, I was like whoa...I blanked out for a second, cause I was in a state of shock in a good way. Til this day, everytime I watch a SG flight video I would think back to that experience. Also the flight, food and experience was so amazing, I didn't sleep on the 12 hour flight and when it landed, I thought to myself, let me stay on, I don't mind another 5 hours in the air!
I don’t mind a bit of turbulence tbh haha. For SQ service though- yeah I agree. They’ve been getting a lot of flack in the past couple of years mostly due to some cut backs with the meal service, but the service is always on point. I never have to worry about that no matter that class I’m flying on SQ.
I came across your vids randomly and am now subscribed. Loved this report. Great filming, clear commentary and you've a refreshing, down to earth attitude. I'm in Australia and going anywhere overseas is a long way away for me with our current situation so appreciate your vid even more. Keep up the great work mate.
Thank you very much for the kind words. Will continue to make as much good content as I can as traveling where I live (Vietnam) is also quite the hassle. Here’s to a stable 2022 and thanks for subscribing 🙏🏻
Thanks for the no nonsense yet fun review. I'm surprised there was no breakfast before landing in FRA. That "snack" didn't look all that appetizing to me. Glad to see you went with the cold cuts though...my next choice as well if offered. Now that SQ has resumed YVR (for the time being at least), looking forward to my next trip to Singapore. cheers!
Very much appreciate the feedback, no nonsense or 'fluff' is the direction I'm trying to go in. As for the pre-arrival meal... yeah it wasn't that great, but it was a shorter flight and 4 hours later we had a full meal on the next sector. Thanks for watching!
SQ won't be heading anywhere fast if they continue to cancel flights and suspend entry into Singapore!! I've never heard of a speakeasy had to Google that one, how awesome though! Breakfast would honestly be my least favourite meal at 40,000 feet, regret living in Melbourne on your return from anywhere near or far outside of Oz that's the meal you get, cold cuts plate a much better option👍 10am Beer heck yes please and thankyou in advance😉 Another solid review, glad l stayed to hang out👍
So many airlines these days are taking the brunt of their government's flack- CX probably being the most extreme case. SQ is in a rough position and whether or not the government's decisions are reasonable or not, I appreciate SQ's 'steady hand' at least throughout ASEAN. I will tell you I enjoy going to Singapore but have never lived there... But on my first flight leaving Saigon, when the SQ Safety Video came on and I heard that music, it felt like I was back home. SQ has a very unique position in ASEAN... they are like our "mother" airline in a way that TG, VN, MH, etc could never be. I'm sure many disagree, but that's the internet for ya :) Anyway, tangent over, thanks for watching!
Very nice. Thank you. I did that flight in 2009 in the upper deck of SQ's 747. They still had the old wedgie seats but it was still a sweet ride. And I don't remember who they partnered with for the lounge back then but it sucked. I felt like I was in the Port Authority bus terminal on 8th Ave.
Greetings from Papua New Guinea! Thanks for this trip report. I use Singapore as a base for travels to europe, asia and the middle east, but I've never caught an ultra long haul direct to JFK (I doubt I ever would). But I would definitely try SIN-FRA-JFK. I enjoy SQ's business class, but prefer the a380 or a350 over the 777 because it's so damned noisy, and I dislike wearing noise-cancelling earphones for long periods. Thanks again for your efforts in bringing us this report.
Thanks very much for the kind words. Yes generally I don't prefer the 777 (except for the spool up) as I always arrive much more well rested on an A350/380 or 787. Also presumably thanks for being my first comment from PNG :) I have it on my list, hopefully in the next 2-3 years. Thanks for watching.
You mentioned the A380 to take over on this route but it’s Sept 2023 and it’s still a 777. I have booked this route next year and it’s scheduled to be a 777. I can only hope we get an aircraft change !
You seem to be late to the party lol. It was served by an A380 from March 2022 until May 2023... It is not expected to be an A380 anytime in the next year.
Seems like Virgin Clubhouse is now exclusive to First Class Passengers, and business class have access to Air India Maharaja lounge or Prime Class Lounge. So maybe i'll just end up going to Centurion.
This is crazy I went on this same flight on the 22nd of December From Ny to Frankfurt to Singapore then to Bangkok it’s pretty good experience from Ny to Singapore is the same plane for me even with the lay over from Frankfurt the business class seat is a huge seat but lacked leg room and the food was not my favorite on board but the best service I ever received from an airline
Small world, I believe the 22nd was my original date of departure before I needed to make a small delay. Glad you enjoyed the service and thanks for watching 🙏🏻
Nice trip report. I’m booked in the new Suites SIN FRA JFK in July for this route with best fare ever thanks to some currency devaluation… hopefully the private room renovation will be done… heard there was some delays.
That was the case for me on my trip, I highly suggest you check with a tool like Sherpa to make sure the same applies to you based on your itinerary, nationality, vaxx status, etc. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
I am just wondering how I can request Penhaligon’s kit from them. I am planning to take SQ23 - SQ708 (JFK-SIN-BKK) with business class on Jan 25. Thank you.
hey great video man!! just a quick question about that bulkhead seat,, was the entertainment system being a few inches higher a very big issue? i’m doing a flight from singapore to london in sq business on the 777 and so i was wondering if the ife system being higher created any major problems (i.e. neck pain) during the flight
It was definitely noticeable on the 777 (on the A350 it wasn’t btw), but it wasn’t much of a bother to me (I’m 1m81). It was even better when I flipped the seat. I rarely actually lie flat sleep on flights but on SQ I frequently flip the seat into bed mode and then just sit with my back against the shell. This being a little higher and a light further away from the screen made it even better. That said, still worth the trade off to get the bulkhead. Thanks for watching 🙏🏻
