This is a review of flight SQ21 from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) in the greater New York City Area to Singapore Changi Airport (SIN).
The flight was operated by an Airbus A350-900 ULR and it is currently the #longestflight in the world, with 18 hrs flight time covering the distance of 17,000 km.
In this flight, I had the chance to review the solo seats in the premium economy. These seats are located at the last 3 rows by the window (40-42 C/H). They are ideal for solo travelers, offering the privacy of window seats and convenience of the aisle seats.
As always, Singapore Airlines delivered excellent service throughout the flight. The hard and soft products on this flight are both great.
You also saved up to 5 hours travelling time as compared to the one stop option via Frankfurt on SQ25.
As such, this is definitely a great way to fly from the US to Singapore and South East Asia.
Date of travel: 15 November 2018.

13NJJACK from what I understand the path is primarily determined based on the wind direction. The flight will try to maximise the tail wind to save time and fuel. Of course there’s other factor such as avoiding conflict area as well.

To the comment above, technically yes it is New Jersey, but also no, as Newark EWR constitutes a New York City airport as it is in the New York Metropolitan Area and is the only other international airport besides NYC's main international gateway which is JFK. Think of it this way, both of Washington DC's main airports are not in the District of Columbia themselves, but in Virginia. To windowseatguy, I would MUCH rather have a direct flight any day, and I can't wait to be on this flight. I am planning on making it my first flight and my first trip to East Asia, checking out Singapore, and visiting a friend in Kuala Lumpur!

Oh, and one more thing: Next time you are coming to Newark EWR from downtown Manhattan, take the PATH train instead of going up to midtown and taking NJ Transit from NY Penn Station. If you take the PATH from the World Trade Center to Newark Penn Station (it costs just as much as one subway ride in NYC, $2.75) it brings you directly to Newark Penn Station without you having to go out of the way, and then, from Newark Penn, you can get the NJ Transit train and take it one stop to Newark Airport. It's cheaper and faster! There are plans to extend the PATH train to Newark Airport in the future which would be vastly convenient for tons of travellers.

gotta book early enough to get the solo seats and they are only on nonstop flights to the US. The other airplanes with PE's don't have solo seats.

❤❤❤❤😍😍😍😍. SQ A359 should equal the other 5-star carriers and Star Alliance Partners from the region Premium Economy product while at the same time beating the Oldest Airline in Asia PR A359 RP-3501-3508 fleet. Pricewise there are deals with SQ21 towards PER DVO CEB and MNL via SIN.

Amazing! Just purchased a flight from SIN to Newark in July! Managed to choose the single seat 41C, same row as yours but at the other side of the plane as I reckoned there would not be much human traffic as the toilet is at the other side? What was your experience like? Did you get bothered with people walking towards the loo?

Congratulations - i am sure you will enjoy the flight. Make sense to avoid human traffic since you probably wanted to sleep more on SIN to EWR leg. I didn't remember getting bothered by the traffic though.

I'm surprised they don't take the North Pole routing...perhaps it is seasonal? Flying SQ21/22 next month so hopefully I get to see some polar iceberg :) Not sure about flying Premium Economy for 18 hours...I will usually opt for Business class for non-stop flight (SQ31/32) and stop-over for Premium Economy. How was your experience on Premium Economy?

John Iii thanks for dropping by! I have tried both the stopover and direct options from New York to Singapore and can see your point. But depending on where is the stop, the longest leg can also reach 12-13 hours. I am happy with either options though :)

Agreed, our taste bud apparently doesn't work the same way at high altitude. I felt some food taste a bit more bland. Good here is relative to other airplane food I guessed.

windowseatguy I was on a flight to Tokyo for 14 hours from east coast on United. Yes the airline your on counts for food IFE etc. but at a certain point if you can get to sleep, you hit gold. On the flight I didn’t get one second of shuteye. Even though I was extremely tired. I got frustrated cause I saw other people sleeping.

The so called Air Train at EWR is the absolute worst and completely unnecessary. It's also a reflection of New York and New Yorkers, even if EWR is in NJ - cramped, crowded, noisy, uncomfortable, uninviting, unpleasant. I really, really hate that Air Train.

An extra comment, one of the things I love about SQ is they don't force you to close the blinds during daylight. Always my carrier of choice and that is one of the main reasons aside from their crew. Nothing worse than having to close the airplane down into total darkness during the day. Ugh.

Agreed..SQ reigns supreme in every sense of the word..and in all aspects..but sometimes other full service ( even low cost airlines suprise customers with great experiences !)..but .. frankly.. from whatever flying I've personally experienced..SQ is best!! Wish you all the very best..and will be seeing you videos more often now..(one small request..please show more wing views when landing and taking off..... that blended with internal views and interaction with crew( especially the pretty one's!!!) make for a very enjoyable viewing ! Air NZ Premium Economy is vastly superior to Singapore Airlines. Main issue with Sing Air, is that they don’t have dedicated bathrooms to the PE section, whereas Air NZ does. On Sing you have to use the Economy section toilets, which is not very premium. Service on Air is also superior to Sing Air.

hello, very nice video, not boring like most flight reports since the text on the screen keeps you occupied. I recently flew EWR SFO SIN round trip on United, it was very cheap but service was a nightmare. How much was this flight?

trotamundo76 thank you for your kind comments! It was actually pretty affordable, about USD 1000 for SIN -LAX and EWR - SIN return trip during the recent promo. SQ seems to be struggling a bit to sell the PE seats.

@@windowseatguy It looked like there were a number of empty seats in the last few PE rows. I'm trying get a ticket for one of single seats (YYZ-BKK). Not really much available. I haven't seen any discounted fares. About $3,000 CAD return from YYZ.

gl89 it was 70-80% full when I took this flight. Hope you will have a chance to land on the promo price :). Worth to try the lax routing as it is also flown by the ULR aircraft.

Well shot and edited! Minor critique - while the subtitles were very informative, they disappeared rather quicker than I could read and digest, suggest leaving them on a second or two longer. Otherwise a well done video 👍

I flew in one of these last week (SIN-LAX). Unfortunately these are bad choice of seat if you are tall. Firstly the seats are a mix between reclining and sliding forwards - so you lose legroom when you “recline”. Secondly these single seats and all the seats in front of them have a large black box (just visible in your movie) underneath that takes up one side of the footwell - you have to sit sideways if you want to stretch your feet out. Lastly, footrest may be nice if your short but they just dug in my shins - surely there’s a better design than that? Sorry..... I was really looking forwards to Singapore Premium, but this is not the best premium I’ve flown ( I would say Cathay, Virgin and BA - in that order). I had to move to a middle row so I could sleep as it turned out.

Tom Rempe haha I realised this when arriving at the airport 1.15 hrs before departure. But Newark terminal B is extremely efficient and the NJ transit is pretty reliable hence 1.5 hrs is typically enough.

@@windowseatguy it could be because of the sheer number of passengers on the flight I'm guessing since this plane is all business class and PE class only. If I ever do the nonstop route from LAX on this same exact plane I will see if its available. They say they have it on the website for flights from LAX but It could sadly be only for the flight that operates via Tokyo.
